IRS Phone Hell: Need expedited tax verification letter but can't get through. Help!
Hey everyone, I'm trying to get an expedited tax verification letter from the IRS but I'm having trouble getting through on the phone. The line keeps cutting out and there's a ton of static. Anyone else dealing with this? Any tips on how to actually reach a human being at the IRS these days?

Ugh, welcome to the club. 🙄 I've been trying to get through to the IRS for weeks now. Their phone system is a total nightmare. Have you tried calling right when they open? I heard that's the best time to get through.

I tried that and still no luck. Spent 2 hours on hold only to get disconnected. The IRS needs to get their act together!

I found a method that actually works to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/Jc9x-gysK0

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

20 bucks? Seems kinda steep just to talk to someone at the IRS 🤔

I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imho.

Can you give more details about how it works? Do they just keep calling until they get through?

Yeah, basically they have a system that navigates the phone tree and waits on hold. When a real person picks up, it calls your phone and connects you. Took about 2 hours for me, but I didn't have to do anything.

Have you tried faxing your request? I know it sounds archaic, but sometimes that's faster than trying to get through on the phone. Just make sure you include all your info and a clear explanation of what you need.

Listen up, folks. I've been dealing with the IRS for years, and here's what I've learned: 1. Persistence is key. Keep calling, even if you get disconnected. 2. Use the IRS website to schedule a callback if that option is available for your issue. 3. Be prepared with all your information before you call. Have your SSN, tax returns, and any relevant documents ready. 4. If possible, use the online tools on the IRS website. Many issues can be resolved without talking to anyone. 5. If you must speak to someone, try calling early in the morning or late in the day. Avoid Mondays and lunch hours. 6. Consider hiring a tax professional or using a taxpayer advocate service if you're really stuck. 7. Document everything. Keep a log of your calls, who you spoke to, and what was said. Remember, the IRS is understaffed and overworked. It's frustrating, but try to stay calm and polite when you do get through. Good luck!

Great advice! I'd add: if you can, use certified mail when sending documents. It's saved my butt more than once.

Anyone else think its ridiculous we have to jump through all these hoops just to get a simple letter? The whole system needs an overhaul smh

Preach! 🙌 It's 2023, why can't we just download this stuff online?

Seriously. Other countries have way more efficient tax systems. We're living in the stone age here.

Hey OP, just curious - why do you need an expedited verification letter? I'm in a similar boat and wondering if I should be worried about timeframes.

I'm trying to close on a house and the lender needs it ASAP. Didn't realize it would be such a headache to get!
