Can't reach IRS for 4883C identity verification - tried everything, help!
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle. I got this 4883C letter from the IRS saying I need to verify my identity. The problem is, I can't get through to the number they gave me. I've tried calling multiple times but no luck. Anyone else dealing with this? Any advice on how to actually reach a human at the IRS? I've got all my docs ready, just need to talk to someone!

Ugh, been there done that. The IRS phone lines are a nightmare. Have you tried calling right when they open? Sometimes that works better.

•Yeah, I've tried that. Even set an alarm for 5 minutes before they open. Still no luck 😭

•Have you guys tried calling on different days of the week? I heard Tuesdays and Wednesdays are less busy

I actually found a way to get through! There's this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that dials the IRS, waits on hold, and then calls you when they get a real person. It costs $20 but it saved me hours of frustration. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/5jrMesbidvI

•Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

•I get the skepticism, but it seriously worked for me. Worth every penny considering how much time I wasted trying to get through on my own.

Here's what worked for me: 1. Call early in the morning, like 7:55 AM their time 2. Have all your docs ready: 4883C letter, last year's tax return, and valid ID 3. Be patient and polite with the agent 4. Ask for a direct number or extension for follow-up 5. Keep detailed notes of your call Hope this helps! It took me a few tries, but I finally got through and sorted everything out.

Have you considered going to a local IRS office? Sometimes face-to-face is easier than phone tag.

•I didn't even know that was an option! Do you need an appointment?

•Yeah, you usually need to schedule ahead. Check irs.gov for locations and appointment info.

Pro tip: use the IRS2Go app to check your refund status. Wont solve your immediate problem but its handy for tracking progress once you get through

I feel your pain! I went through the same nightmare last year with my 4883C letter. Here's what finally worked for me: I called the practitioner priority line (1-866-860-4259) instead of the regular taxpayer line. You're supposed to be a tax professional to use it, but they don't really verify and the wait times are way shorter. Also, try calling around 2-3 PM on weekdays - seems to be a sweet spot when call volume drops. Don't give up, you'll get through eventually! 💪
