Got IRS Letter 4883C/5071C for Identity Verification - Help!
Hey everyone, I just got this letter from the IRS about identity verification. It's either 4883C or 5071C, I can't remember which one exactly. Has anyone dealt with this before? I tried to verify online but ran into some account access issues. Now I'm not sure what to do next. Any advice on how to handle this over the phone or if there are other ways to verify my identity with the IRS? I'm kinda freaking out here!

Ugh, I've been there. It's a pain in the butt, but don't worry too much. Here's what you need to do: 1. Call the number on the letter 2. Have your personal info ready (SSN, birth date, etc.) 3. Tell them you got the letter and couldn't verify online 4. They'll ask you some questions to verify your identity 5. Follow their instructions after that It might take a while, but it's pretty straightforward. Good luck!

•Thanks so much! This is really helpful. Do you know how long the call usually takes? I'm worried about being on hold forever.

•No problem! It can vary, but expect to be on hold for at least 30-60 minutes. Bring a book or something to do while you wait lol

•30-60 minutes? You got lucky! I was on hold for over 2 hours last time I called the IRS. ðŸ˜

I found a way to get someone on the phone without waiting forever. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/5jrMesbidvI

•Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Anyone else tried it?

•Yeah, it's legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of waiting. Totally worth the $20 imo

•I've used it before. It works, but feels kinda like cheating the system lol. Still, when you're desperate to talk to someone, it's a lifesaver.

make sure you have all your tax returns and W-2s handy when you call. They might ask for specific info from those documents to verify your identity.

•Preach! 🙌 The whole system is a joke. They know everything about us until it's time to help, then suddenly they need to verify every little detail. 🤡

Has anyone else noticed that the IRS website is always down for maintenance when you actually need to use it? It's like they're trolling us on purpose 😤

whatever you do, DON'T ignore the letter. I made that mistake and it took months to sort out. Just bite the bullet and deal with it asap

I had to go through this last year. It's annoying but not as bad as it seems. Just be patient and polite with the IRS folks, they're just doing their job. You'll get through it!

•That's reassuring, thanks! Did you have to provide any specific documents during the call?

•Nah, just had to answer some questions about my past tax returns and personal info. Make sure you have that stuff handy!
