Deposit date of 3/12 with TurboTax but still no refund showing in account
Filed my taxes through TurboTax on February 18th, got accepted same day. My WMR updated last week saying I was approved for a refund with direct deposit date of March 12th. It's now March 15th and still nothing in my bank account. Checked my transcript and it shows code 846 with the 3/12 date. Called my bank and they don't see any pending deposits. This is so frustrating because I really needed that money for some bills that are due this weekend. Anyone else experiencing delays with their refunds even though they had a set deposit date? Did TurboTax mess something up with my bank info? Should I contact the IRS?

You might be caught in the ACH processing delay that happens sometimes. When the IRS sends the money, it can take 1-5 business days to actually hit your account. Since March 12th was a Tuesday, and today's only Friday, you're still within the normal timeframe. If you don't see it by next Tuesday, then you should start worrying. Make sure to check that the last 4 digits of the account on your return match your actual account. If they don't match, the bank will reject it and the IRS will mail you a paper check instead, which takes 2-3 weeks. Also, if you had fees taken out of your refund for TurboTax, that might cause additional delay as it goes through their bank first before reaching you.

Thanks for the info! I did have the fees taken out of my refund so maybe that's causing the delay. I'll give it till Tuesday before I panic.

I had the same issue last year with TT. The fees taken out caused like a 5 day delay. Super annoying but it did eventually show up!

This is why I always pay the turbotax fee upfront now! When they take it from refund they use a 3rd party bank and it adds like a week to the process 🙄

Instead of stressing about this, I've been using taxr.ai to actually understand what's going on with my refund. It analyzes your transcript and explains all those confusing codes in plain English. After years of trying to decipher IRS codes and dates myself, it's been a game changer! I just upload my transcript and it tells me exactly where my refund is in the process and when I should expect it. Saved me hours of googling and worrying. https://taxr.ai is seriously the best tool I've found for tax season frustrations.

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

OMG it does so much more! It explains every code, tells you if there are any issues, predicts when you'll get paid, and even helps you understand if you need to take action. SO much better than trying to google every code yourself. I was literally about to call the IRS before I found this!

Not an ad lol. Just sharing what worked for me after spending WEEKS trying to figure out my transcript on my own. Trust me, after you've spent hours on hold with the IRS and searching tax forums, you get excited when you find something that actually helps 💯

After dealing with the same issue last month, I finally got through to an IRS agent using the Claimyr app. They had a system where I got a callback instead of waiting on hold for hours. The agent told me my refund was delayed because of a verification check but was already approved and being processed. Talking to a real person got everything resolved quickly - they released my refund right away. Found them at claimyr.com and honestly it was worth every penny to finally get answers instead of just checking WMR obsessively.

How much did it cost? Sounds like those scammy "get your refund faster" services 🤔

It just helps you get through to an actual IRS agent without the insane hold times. I spent like 4 hours on hold before finding this. Talking to the agent directly was the only way I got my refund unstuck. Best money I've spent during tax season considering how much refund money was sitting in limbo.

Yes! I got a callback in about 45 mins when I had previously been trying for DAYS to get through. The agent I spoke with was able to see exactly what was happening with my refund and fix the issue.

Check if you had your fees taken out of your refund. If so, it goes to a temporary account first before going to your actual account. This adds days to the process. Look at your actual tax return PDF - if your direct deposit info shows a different account number than your own, that's what happened.

I've had this happen the last 3 years in a row. It's almost always because I did the "take fees out of my refund" option. The money goes to TurboTax's bank first, they take their cut, then forward the rest to you. adds like 3-5 business days. Super annoying.

This has to be it. I did choose to have the fees taken out of my refund. I'll never do that again!

They don't make this clear AT ALL when you're filing. I always thought it was just a convenience feature, not something that would delay my money by a week 🤬

The WMR tool is garbage. It said my refund would be deposited on 2/15 and I didn't get it until 2/23. The IRS systems are so outdated they can't even accurately tell you when your money is coming. It's ridiculous.

Same. Mine said 3/1 and I got it 3/9. I was so stressed because I needed it for rent.

Always always ALWAYS pay the TurboTax/H&R Block/whatever fees upfront with a credit card if you can. When you have them take it from your refund, what actually happens is: 1. IRS sends your money to a temporary bank account owned by TurboTax 2. TurboTax takes their fees 3. TurboTax sends the remainder to your actual bank This process adds 3-7 days to getting your money. I learned this the hard way.

Wow I had no idea this is how it worked! No wonder my refund is taking forever. Never choosing that option again.

AND they charge you an extra "convenience fee" for the privilege of waiting longer for your own money! Total scam.

Have you checked if your bank info is correct on your return? I made a typo in my account number last year and had to wait 6 weeks for a paper check after my direct deposit failed.

I went through this exact thing last week! Mine finally showed up a full 5 days after the "deposit date." The IRS told me the date is when they SEND the money, not when it arrives in your account. So frustrating.

I was having the same issue, kept checking my WMR obsessively and stressing out. I used taxr.ai to analyze my transcript, and it showed that even though my DDD was 2/28, I had a code that indicated a manual review was happening first. It was super helpful because it told me exactly what was going on and what to expect instead of me trying to guess. Highly recommend checking it out at taxr.ai if you're stuck in refund limbo like I was!

It literally just reads your transcript and explains it. You upload the PDF yourself. Way better than trying to google every code and piece it together yourself. I was about to lose my mind before using it!

The banks have been extra slow processing ACH transfers this year, not just tax refunds. I'm seeing 3-4 business day delays on everything. It's annoying but not necessarily something wrong with your return.

Did you have an advance or loan on your refund? That can cause mega delays

No advance or loan, but I did have the fees taken out of my refund which seems to be the issue based on other comments.

I work at a bank (not customer service thank god lol). Tax refunds are coming in super slow this year even when the IRS says they've been sent. We're seeing 3-5 business day delays across the board. Something is definitely up with the ACH system or the Treasury's processing.

is this because of the government almost-shutdown thing? i heard that affected some processing systems

Possibly! We weren't given any official explanation, but volume is also WAY up this year which doesn't help. The systems are ancient and struggle with the load.

After spending literal DAYS trying to get through to the IRS (kept getting the "call back later" message), I found claimyr.com and got a callback from an agent in like 30 minutes. The agent told me my refund was actually sent but there was an issue with my bank info. She fixed it right there and I got my refund 2 days later. If you're really worried, talking to an actual IRS person is the only way to get real answers.

The agent said the refund was rejected by my bank but hadn't been processed for a paper check yet, so she was able to update my info. Apparently there's a small window where they can still make changes! Without talking to someone I would've been waiting for weeks for a check.

They process millions of returns. What do you expect? The IRS is chronically underfunded because politicians know it's an easy target to cut.

Nah just someone who understands how systems work. They're using computers from the 1980s because Congress won't fund upgrades.

So I finally got my refund yesterday, 8 days after my DDD. Turned out I had fees taken out AND there was a 1-day bank holiday that messed up the processing. The most frustrating part was not knowing what was happening. Next year I'm paying all fees upfront to avoid this nonsense.

This is why I always get a paper check now. Takes longer initially but at least I know exactly when it's coming and don't have to deal with all these bank delays and third-party accounts.

I went through this exact issue a few weeks back, and was in full panic mode because I needed that money for medical bills. I found taxr.ai which helped me understand my transcript - turns out I had a code showing my refund was actually still pending verification even though I had a deposit date. The explanation helped me stop worrying and checking my bank account every 5 minutes. When the deposit finally happened a week later, it matched exactly what taxr.ai predicted. https://taxr.ai was seriously a life saver for my anxiety.

I don't remember exactly but it wasn't much - way less than I would have paid for an accountant to look at my transcript. And considering it saved me from taking a day off work to sit on hold with the IRS, totally worth it.

if u have kids check line 28 and 29 on ur return. turbotax has been messing up the child tax credit and EIC calculations which leads to delayed refunds. happened to me and 3 ppl i know this year.
