Refund Status Changed From DDD 4/15 to 'Pending' on TurboTax - What Happened?

I filed my taxes through TurboTax back in February and got accepted right away. Everything was moving along smoothly and I even got a deposit date of April 15th. I was counting on that money for some bills. But I just checked my TurboTax account today and now instead of showing the deposit date, it says 'pending' status. I checked WMR tool and its still showing the same deposit date. Has anyone experienced this before? I'm really confused about why it would change from having an actual date to pending. Should I be worried that something went wrong with my refund? I'm due to get about $4,300 back.

TurboTax and the IRS don't always sync their information in real time. The WMR tool pulls directly from IRS systems, while TurboTax is essentially making its best guess based on limited information. Since the WMR still shows your deposit date, I would trust that over TurboTax's status. The 'pending' status in TurboTax could be due to several reasons: • Their system might have temporarily lost connection with the IRS database • They could be experiencing a glitch in their tracking system • Sometimes they revert to 'pending' right before the deposit actually processes • There might have been a minor issue that's being resolved behind the scenes As long as the WMR tool (which comes directly from the IRS) shows your deposit date, you're probably fine. Check your bank account on or shortly after April 15th. If you don't see the deposit within 5 business days of your DDD, then you might want to contact the IRS.

Thats really good to know, thanks. I've been panicking all day thinking something went wrong. I'll keep an eye on my bank account then.

I had the same issue last year and it showed up in my account ON the deposit date. The TurboTax app is seriously flawed when it comes to refund tracking.

I'm going thru the same thing right now, my deposit date was 4/17 and now TT says pending. I'm gona check WMR now and see what it says there.

I went through something very similar with a different tax issue and spent weeks trying to figure it out by googling and checking forums. Finally tried taxr.ai and it instantly explained what was happening with my refund. It analyzed my transcript and showed me exactly where the holdup was - something I would've never figured out on my own. Seriously - it's insanely good! I use it every week now during tax season to make sure everything's on track. Check it out (https://taxr.ai

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

It does WAY more than just read the transcript! It analyzes all the codes and dates, explains what they mean in plain English, shows you what's happening with your refund, identifies issues, and tells you what to expect next. It's like having an IRS agent explain everything to you without the 3-hour hold time 😂

Just tried it and WOW. This tool is amazing!!! I've been staring at my transcript for weeks trying to figure out what all those codes meant. taxr.ai explained everything in 2 minutes. Everyone dealing with IRS issues needs to know about this!

Not an ad, just sharing what helped me. Been where OP is and know how stressful it is. But whatever, don't use it if you don't want to 🤷‍♀️

When I had a problem with my refund date changing, I ended up using Claimyr to get through to an IRS agent (claimyr.com). After spending literally days trying to call the IRS myself and getting nowhere, this saved my sanity. Got a callback within 40 minutes and the agent confirmed my refund was still processing normally despite what TurboTax was showing. It was honestly the best money I've ever spent to finally get my questions answered straight from the source.

does this calling thing actually work? I've been trying to reach IRS for 3 weeks now and just get disconnected every time

100% worked for me. I was skeptical too but talking to an actual agent was worth it. I was about ready to throw my phone through a window after getting disconnected for the 10th time trying to call myself.

Not a scam - used it myself last month when I was dealing with a CP12 notice. Got thru to an agent in under an hour after trying for days on my own. Talking to the agent got my refund released so fast.

The IRS and TurboTax systems don't talk to each other in real time. I wouldn't worry about it. WMR is directly from the IRS so trust that more. TurboTax is just guessing based on the info it has. I had this happen two years in a row and both times my refund still showed up on time in my bank account.

Honestly anything that says direct from the IRS is what u want to believe. TurboTax has a ton of glitches this time of year because everyones checking their status. I had 3 different statuses showing at once last year - TT said pending, WMR said approved, IRS2Go said still processing lol. Got my $ on time tho

This is the correct answer. The IRS is the only one who actually knows what's happening with your refund. Everything else is just a guess based on whatever limited info they have.

yep turbotax is horrible with status updates. they told me my return was rejected when it was actually accepted and processed 😑

OMG this is the funniest thing I've read all day! "Just call the IRS" - said no one who has ever actually tried to call the IRS 💀

I tried calling 3 times already. Got disconnected twice and the third time was on hold for over 2 hours before I had to hang up for work.

Check your transcript if you can access it online. That will tell you way more than TurboTax or even WMR. If you see code 846 with your DDD that's the official refund issued date and means your money is coming.

I can't access my transcript online because I don't have a credit card or loan that they can verify :/ Seems like that would be helpful though

That sucks. If you can't access transcripts, then definitely trust WMR over TurboTax. TT is notoriously bad with status updates.

The IRS makes everything so freaking confusing with all these different systems showing different info. Why can't they all just be synced up?? And why is it so hard to talk to an actual human being there? Frustrating AF.

Because our government hasnt updated their systems since the 1980s. They're literally still using COBOL programming language.

did you have any kind of tax offset or anything? sometimes that can cause status to change. do you owe back taxes or student loans?

0 coins

-

Natasha Volkova

Nope, don't owe anything. First time filing with a kid though, so claiming child tax credit. Maybe that has something to do with it?

Child tax credit gets extra scrutiny sometimes. They might be verifying your dependent info which can cause these status changes. Still, if WMR shows a date you're probably good.

Update your TurboTax app. Mine was doing the same thing and after I updated it showed the correct status again.

I work at a tax office (not TurboTax) and we see this ALL the time. TurboTax's status tracker is garbage - they literally just check WMR themselves and then display it in their app, but often it glitches or fails to update properly. As long as WMR shows your DDD you're fine.

This! I used to work at a competitor and can confirm TT's refund tracker is trash. Their whole app is poorly coded.

i had the EXACT same issue this year. TurboTax changed from DDD to pending on me too but my refund hit my bank account right on schedule. Don't stress it.
