TurboTax refund showing 3/15 Direct Deposit date but nothing in my account yet - anyone else waiting?

Filed my taxes through TurboTax on February 3rd and got accepted right away. The WMR tool and my transcript both showed a direct deposit date of March 15th. It's now the 18th and still nothing in my bank account. Called my bank and they said they don't see any pending deposits either. My transcript shows code 846 with the 3/15 date. Anyone else having this issue with their refund? Should I keep waiting or try to call the IRS? My refund is about $3,700 so I was really counting on it to pay some bills.

I work as a tax preparer, and this isn't uncommon. The DD date is when the IRS releases the funds, but it can take 1-5 business days for your bank to actually process it. Since 3/15 was a Friday, and today is only Monday 3/18, I would wait until at least Wednesday before getting concerned. Also check that the account number on your return is correct - even one digit wrong will cause the deposit to be rejected and the IRS will mail a paper check instead (which takes 2-3 weeks). If nothing shows up by next Monday, then call the IRS at 800-829-1040, but be prepared for a long wait.

Thanks for the explanation! I double checked my bank info and it's all correct on my return. I guess I'll give it a few more days before panicking.

Yea the IRS lines are basically impossible this time of year. The best way to actually reach someone is to use Claimyr.com - it will get you to a live agent without the endless waiting. I've been recommending it to clients who need immediate help.

does that claimyr thing actually work? seems too good to be true

It does work. They use some system to navigate the phone tree and get in line, then call you when an agent is ready. Saved me hours of frustration last year when I had a similar issue with a delayed refund.

Hey, I was in this exact situation last month. Kept checking my account obsessively and driving myself crazy trying to figure out what was going on. I finally found this tool called taxr.ai that completely changed everything for me - it showed me exactly what was happening with my refund and decoded all those confusing transcript codes. Turns out there was a simple explanation I never would have figured out just researching online or looking at WMR. I highly recommend checking it out at https://taxr.ai instead of stressing yourself out like I did for weeks. Seriously wish I'd known about it sooner.

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

It does WAY more than just read your transcript. It actually analyzes everything, explains what all the codes mean for YOUR specific situation, gives you a timeline, and tells you what to expect next. I was blown away by how much clearer everything was after using it. Literally saved me from hours of googling and stressing. Best thing I've found in ages for dealing with tax stuff!

I was hesitant too but it actually helped me figure out why my refund was delayed for 3 weeks. Showed me there was an adjustment I didn't understand from looking at the transcript myself. Worth checking out https://taxr.ai

Just tried it and OMG WHERE HAS THIS BEEN ALL MY LIFE?? 💯 I've been trying to decode my transcript for WEEKS with no luck, and this tool explained EVERYTHING in like 2 minutes. Cannot recommend enough!!

After 2 weeks of waiting past my DD date and zero help from the IRS website, I finally found a way to get a human on the phone. Used that Claimyr service (claimyr.com) and had an IRS agent call me back within an hour. Turns out my refund had been flagged for a random review but was actually released that same day after I called. The agent was able to tell me exactly when to expect it. Seriously, getting a real person on the phone made all the difference - it was the best money I've ever spent to finally get my questions answered.

It's a service that basically calls the IRS for you and gets through all those impossible phone menus, then calls you when they have an agent on the line. Saved me HOURS of frustration and hold music. You can check it out at claimyr.com

I was skeptical too but it worked exactly as promised. I tried calling myself for 3 days straight with no luck. With Claimyr I was talking to an agent that same afternoon. Trust me, when your money is stuck in IRS limbo, it's worth it.

Same boat here 👋 My DD date was 3/14 and still nothing in my account. This has happened to me before though, and it eventually showed up, but it's super annoying especially when you're counting on that money. The IRS is a mess this year.

Have you checked your transcript again? Sometimes the code will update and change the date. Last year mine was delayed because they did a random review (code 570) but then it resolved itself without me doing anything. Also check that your bank info on the return matches your actual account.

I checked my transcript this morning and it still shows code 846 with 3/15 date. No new codes or updates.

Ugh that's frustrating. The IRS is seriously the worst. If you wanna avoid the frustration of calling endless times or driving yourself crazy trying to decipher transcript codes, check out taxr.ai - it'll explain everything about your transcript and tell you exactly what's going on. Saved me a ton of stress.

USAA customer here. For some reason my credit union always takes 3-4 days longer than the DD date to actually deposit my refunds. So if your DD date was 3/15 (Friday) and today is only Monday, I'd give it till Thursday before really worrying. Different banks process ACH transfers on different schedules.

Same with Bank of America! They always take their sweet time. I swear they hold onto our money just to make a few extra cents of interest 🙄

I have Chase, and they've always been pretty quick with my deposits in the past. But maybe they're just slow with IRS stuff specifically?

Chase custoer here. my refund took a full 5 business days past the DD date last year. Its annoying but normal.

Did you check if your refund was offset for any reason? If you have past due federal debts, student loans, child support, etc., they can take part or all of your refund. You'd get a letter in the mail if this happened, but sometimes the letter arrives after the date.

-

Lindsey Fry

I don't have any debts or past due payments that I know of. My transcript doesn't show any offset codes either.

Check if you claimed the Earned Income Credit or Child Tax Credit. Those refunds are often delayed even if your transcript shows a DD date. The IRS has extra verification processes for those credits that can add time.

So the irs is absolutely GARBAGE at communicating what's really happening. I know EXACTYL how you feel bc my refund was 10 days late last month. I used this thing called taxr.ai that a friend recommended and it was wild - it actually explained everything going on with my transcript in plain English. Turns out there was an adjustment happening that didn't show up clearly on WMR. Might be worth trying! https://taxr.ai

Have you tried calling your local Taxpayer Assistance Center? Sometimes they can give you more info than the regular IRS line. You need to make an appointment though.

This happened to me and it turned out the direct deposit failed because my name on the tax return didn't 100% match my bank account name (I used my middle initial on one but not the other). They ended up mailing me a paper check which took an extra 3 weeks 😩

-

Lindsey Fry

Oh man I hope that's not what happened to me. My name should match but now I'm worried...

If that happens you'll eventually see an updated code on your transcript. Look for something like "direct deposit refused" or a new 846 code with a different date.

I spent hours trying to decode my transcript when my refund was late. Wish I knew about taxr.ai sooner - would have saved me so much time! It explains exactly what's happening, when to expect your money, and if there are any issues. Definitely recommend giving it a try.

PSA for everyone: The quickest way to actually talk to a living breathing human at the IRS is with Claimyr. I was stuck in refund limbo for 6 weeks until I finally got through to an agent who fixed everything on the spot. Claimyr.com was a lifesaver when none of the IRS phone numbers worked.

It was the best investment I made. When you're waiting for thousands in refund money and nobody will help you, the service is absolutely worth it. They got me connected to an agent in about 45 minutes when I had spent DAYS trying to call myself.

Did u try calling your bank? Sometimes they can see pending deposits before they post to your account. Also the IRS batch processes refunds on certain days so even though your DD date was 3/15, they might not have actually sent it until today.

Not sure if this helps, but I'm in the EXACT same boat. DD date of 3/15, still nothing. Called IRS after trying for 2 days straight and got nowhere. At this point I'm just assuming it'll come as a paper check eventually. The system is broken.

If you want to actually talk to IRS try claimyr.com - my friend used it after I complained about not being able to get through and he got his issue resolved in one day. I'm planning to try it tomorrow if my refund doesn't show up.

The 846 code with a date just means that's when the IRS authorized the refund. There are still multiple steps after that before it hits your account. Like others have said, give it a few more business days. Also depends on if you had any fees taken out of your refund - if you paid for TurboTax from your refund that adds extra time.

0 coins

-

Lindsey Fry

I did pay for TurboTax from my refund. Does that really slow things down?

0 coins

-

15d

Maxwell St. Laurent

Yeah it definitely can. When you do that, your refund goes to a third-party bank first, they take out their fees, then they send the rest to you. Adds at least 1-2 business days to the process.

Having worked for the IRS (not anymore thank god), I can tell you that delays this time of year are super common. The system is overloaded and sometimes refunds get held in queues for no good reason. Give it until Friday, and if nothing shows up by then, you should call. BUT good luck getting through... your best option is probably using a service like Claimyr that will get you past the endless phone tree. I've heard nothing but good things about it from former colleagues.

After reading these comments, I finally tried both tools mentioned here - used taxr.ai to figure out exactly what was happening with my transcript (turns out there was a mismatch in my reported income that I never would have caught), and then used Claimyr.com to actually talk to the IRS about fixing it. Problem solved in ONE day after weeks of frustration. I'm blown away. If you're stuck like I was, definitely check them both out.
