PATH Act delay with EITC/ACTC - Filed early with 1/26 DDD but still no deposit
Filed my taxes on January 10th with turbo tax and got accepted same day. Had EITC and ACTC on my return so hit with the PATH act delay. Transcript finally updated last Saturday and shows a direct deposit date of January 26th but still no money in my account. Is anybody else with leadership bank waiting on deposits? Checked WMR and still says refund approved with deposit date of 1/26. Getting worried since its already been 3 days and my bank normally posts deposits early. Called my bank twice and they dont see anything pending.

It's likely due to the PATH Act delay combined with bank processing times. The IRS doesn't actually send the money until the day of the DDD and then banks have up to 5 business days to post it. Since your DDD was 1/26 (Thursday), you might not see it until 2/2 (next Thursday) in a worst-case scenario. Worth checking your transcript for code 846 (refund issued) to confirm it actually went out. Sometimes there can be a last-minute issue that shows on transcript but not on WMR. If code 846 is there with the 1/26 date, just keep waiting - it's still within normal timeframes.

•Thank you for the detailed explanation! I do see code 846 with the 1/26 date on my transcript. Just getting nervous because I see other people with the same DDD already got theirs 😩

•Same boat here! My DDD was 1/26 too and still nothing. I use Capital One and normally they post a day early. Super frustrating 🙄

•If you see code 846, you're good. Some banks are just slower than others even if they normally post early. Especially with tax season, the volume of deposits can slow things down.

•Sometimes it depends on what time of day the IRS sent the ACH. If it was sent after the bank's cutoff time it rolls to the next business day, and then takes additional time to process. Hang in there!

I had this exact same issue last year. Spent hours trying to figure out what was happening with my refund. Finally discovered taxr.ai which made everything crystal clear. It explained exactly where my refund was in the process and when I could expect it. The tool breaks down all the transcript codes and what they actually mean in plain English. So much better than trying to decode everything yourself or waiting on hold with the IRS for hours. https://taxr.ai

•Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

•It does wayyy more than just read transcripts. It analyzes everything and tells you exactly what's happening with your return in normal language. You can ask it questions too. Saved me literally days of stress and confusion. Best tax tool I've ever used by far. I tell all my friends about it now.

•I thought the same thing at first but it's actually legit. After 3 weeks of confusion and getting nowhere with the IRS, it explained exactly what was happening with my refund and when I'd get it. Totally worth it for the peace of mind alone.

After dealing with the same problem (DDD on 12/12 but no deposit for weeks), I finally found a way to talk to an actual human at the IRS. Used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an agent in about 20 minutes instead of waiting on hold for hours or getting hung up on. The agent was able to confirm that my refund was actually sent and helped track down where it got stuck. Talking to a real person at the IRS directly was the only thing that finally resolved it. Best money I ever spent to end weeks of stress.

•does that actually work? I've been trying to call the IRS for a week and either get disconnected or told to call back later 😤

•Yes! It actually does work. They basically navigate the phone tree for you and hold your place in line, then call you when an agent is about to pick up. Saved me hours of frustration. The agent I talked to was super helpful and got my issue resolved in minutes once I actually reached them.

•I was skeptical too but after my 5th attempt trying to call them myself I was desperate. I was shocked when my phone rang and it was actually an IRS agent ready to talk. They had all the info about why my refund was delayed that the WMR tool wasn't showing.

I had a DDD of 1/26 too, same situation with EITC, and just got mine deposited this morning at 3am with Navy Federal. Sometimes the banks just take longer, especially if there's a weekend in between. I'd say if you don't have it by Tuesday, then start worrying.

i hd same date and got mine two days ago with Chime. Different banks process at different times. My sister has same DDD with regions bank and still nothing for her.

•That gives me some hope. Maybe its just my bank being slow then.

•Chime seems to be super fast with tax refunds. All my friends with Chime get theirs way earlier than the rest of us 😭

PATH Act always causes delays. The IRS legally can't issue refunds with EITC or ACTC before Feb 15, so they batch process them and some banks are faster than others. The fact that you got a DDD already means you're actually ahead of the game compared to most people claiming those credits.

•This isn't completely accurate. The PATH Act requires the IRS to HOLD refunds with EITC/ACTC until mid-February, but once they're released, the normal timeframes apply. So a Jan 26 DDD should be processed like any other refund after that date.

•You're right, I wasn't clear. What I meant was that even though they have DDDs, the volume of PATH Act returns all being released around the same time can cause processing delays at both the IRS and banks.

•The whole PATH Act is just another way for the government to hold onto our money longer 🙄 They don't care that people need their refunds

Check your bank account routing and account number on your return to make sure they're correct. Had a similar issue last year, turned out I transposed two digits in my account number. Had to wait for the deposit to bounce back to IRS then they mailed me a check which took another 6 weeks 😩

•Double checked and the routing and account numbers are correct. Thank goodness, I would die if I had to wait another 6 weeks!

•The IRS really should have a better system by now. It's 2025 for cryin out loud and they still operate like it's 1985 🤦♂️

The where's my refund tool is notoriously inaccurate during peak filing season. I've had refunds show up in my account 3-4 days before WMR updated, and I've also had times where WMR showed a deposit date but it took another week to actually arrive. The system is completely broken.

•This! The IRS systems are held together with duct tape and prayers at this point. WMR is useless.

This happens to me EVERY YEAR with Leaders. I have a DDD of 1/26 too and I'm still waiting. Last year they took a full week after the DDD. They're always super slow with tax refunds even though they advertise "early direct deposit" 🤡

•Ugh this makes me feel better that I'm not alone but worse knowing they're always slow. Might switch banks after this!

•Yeah I'm thinking about switching too after this tax season. Their customer service is useless too - they always just say "we don't see anything pending" which doesn't help at all.

U should log into the irs website directly and check ur transcript. Sometimes wmr isn't uptodate but the transcript will show the actual status. Look for code 846 which is refund issued. If u see that with ur ddd then its on the way.

I struggled for WEEKS trying to figure out what was going on with my tax refund last year - WMR not updating, confusing transcript codes, no one answering at the IRS. Finally used taxr.ai and it instantly explained everything that was happening with my refund and predicted exactly when I'd get it (down to the day!). It analyzes all those confusing transcript codes and tells you what they actually mean in normal human language. HIGHLY recommend if you're stressed about your refund status. https://taxr.ai

•I keep seeing this recommended. What does it do that's different from just looking at your transcript yourself?

Daniela Rossi
•It actually explains what all the codes mean and what's happening with your specific refund. Plus you can ask it questions about your situation and get real answers. Looking at the transcript yourself is like trying to read a foreign language - this translates it and tells you what's actually going on and what to expect next.

Just be grateful you have a DDD! Filed Jan 3rd with EITC and still stuck on "return received" with no updates whatsoever 😡

Anyone having issues with refunds should use the claimyr.com service to get through to the IRS. I was in the same situation - no refund after my DDD passed. Got fed up with waiting and used Claimyr to connect with an agent who told me there was a flag on my account that was holding it up. They removed it while I was on the phone and my refund hit my account 2 days later. Would have been waiting for months otherwise with no idea what was wrong. Talking directly to a real IRS agent was the only thing that fixed it.

•Yes! An actual IRS agent who could see my file and everything. The service puts you in line and calls you when an agent is about to pick up. No more waiting on hold for hours or getting disconnected. It was a game changer.

•About 45 minutes total. Way better than the 3+ hours I spent trying to call myself (and never getting through). The agent was super helpful once I got connected.

This tax system is so broken. It's crazy how we're all just sitting here waiting for OUR money while the IRS takes their sweet time. And heaven forbid we ever owe THEM money - they want it immediately with interest and penalties! 😤

•Ain't that the truth! If you owe them $5, they'll hunt you to the ends of the earth. If they owe you $5000, good luck getting any answers 🙄

I'm an accountant and see this all the time. The PATH Act (Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes) requires additional verification for returns with EITC/ACTC which is why there's that mid-February holdback period. Even after the hold is released, there can be delays. If you have a DDD on transcript (code 846), your money is coming - just be patient. The IRS sends the money through ACH which typically takes 1-5 business days depending on your bank.

If its leadership credit union they are notoriously slow with tax refunds. My cousin works there and says they intentionally hold them for a few extra days to "verify" or something. Try calling again and specifically asking if there's a hold for verification.
