Anyone with 570/971 codes on 2024 transcripts finally get their DDD yet?

I e-filed my taxes at the beginning of April, got accepted right away, and WMR showed processing for almost 3 weeks. I checked my transcripts last week and saw code 570 (additional account action pending) dated 5/15/25 and code 971 (notice issued) dated 5/22/25. My refund is pretty big this year - about $7,400 with EIC and child tax credits. Called the IRS twice but couldn't get through to an actual person. Anyone else dealing with these codes who finally got their direct deposit date? Just wondering how much longer I might be waiting. Really counting on this money for some home repairs.

Hannah Flores

Yes, I had those exact codes a few weeks ago. The 570 code means your return is on hold for review and the 971 means they're sending you a letter explaining why. In most cases, it's just verification of something on your return. For me, it was verifying my dependents. They sent a letter asking for additional info, I sent it back, and exactly 3 weeks later I got my DDD. My codes were dated 4/18 and 4/25, and I got my DDD of 5/16 about 3 weeks after responding to their letter. Just wait for the letter to arrive and respond ASAP with whatever they request. I had a similar amount with EIC and Child Tax Credit.

Thanks for the detailed response! Did you have to call them at all or just wait for the letter and respond?

Nope, just waited for the letter. Trying to call the IRS is like trying to win the lottery lol. I did use their online portal to upload the documents they requested rather than mailing them. Definitely faster that way.

I was in the exact same situation last month and was going crazy trying to understand all the tax codes and what they meant for my refund. I finally tried this tool called taxr.ai and it was a game-changer. It analyzed my transcript, explained every code in plain English, and gave me an accurate timeline for when I'd receive my refund. It even explained exactly why my refund was delayed and what to expect next. Saved me hours of stress and googling. The site is https://taxr.ai if you want to check it out.

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

It's actually pretty cool - you upload your transcript and it breaks down everything line by line. It explains each code in normal human language, gives you a timeline, and even predicts when you'll get your money. It basically turns all that IRS gibberish into something you can actually understand. Was 100% worth it for my sanity.

OMG I JUST TRIED THIS AND IT'S AMAZINGGG! 🙌 Literally answered every question I had about my weird transcript situation. The IRS website is stuck in 1995 but this thing made everything crystal clear. Everyone needs to know about this!

does it need your ssn or any personal info? seems sketch

no personal info needed besides what's already on your transcript. You can even black out sensitive info before uploading if you want. It just needs to see the codes and dates.

I went through this EXACT same thing in March. Was pulling my hair out trying to get someone on the phone. After 3 weeks of calling that useless IRS number and never getting through, I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to an actual human IRS agent within like 30 minutes. The agent told me exactly why my refund was held up (they were verifying my self-employment income) and what I needed to do. Got my DDD about 10 days after talking to them. Seriously, trying to call the IRS directly is a complete waste of time.

yeah right, another 'miracle solution'... what's the catch? 🙄

No catch, it just works. they basically navigate the phone tree for you and get you in line for a callback. Talking to a live agent is what finally got my refund moving. Best money I've spent all year considering I was waiting on a $6k refund.

Can confirm this actually works. I was skeptical too but was desperate after trying to call for weeks. Got a callback from an IRS agent in about 45 mins. They explained everything and got my return processed right away. Worth every penny when you're waiting on thousands of dollars.

I had those codes on April 26th and May 3rd. Just got my direct deposit today (May 28th). So it took about a month from when the codes appeared. I never received any notice in the mail even though the 971 is supposed to mean they sent something. The amount changed a little bit too - they adjusted my refund down by $120. No idea why but I'm just happy to finally have the money. Hang in there!

The IRS is so backed up this year its ridiculous. My sister and I filed the same day in march, she got her refund 2 weeks later, mine has been stuck with those codes for 7 weeks now. Finally got the notice yesterday - they want proof of my business expenses. Such a pain.

SAME! The inconsistency is what drives me nuts. My husband and I filed the exact same day, similar incomes, similar credits - he got his in 10 days, mine's been in limbo for 2 months. Make it make sense!!

Here's what those codes actually mean: 570 = Refund hold 971 = Notice issued (letter sent to you) There are a few common reasons for these codes showing up together: 1. Math error on your return they're correcting 2. Identity verification needed 3. Income verification 4. Credit verification (especially with EIC/CTC) If the hold is just for a math correction, you'll usually see code 571 (resolved) appear within 1-2 weeks, followed by 846 (refund issued). If they need verification from you, you need to wait for the letter and respond right away. Check your account transcript for TC 420 code - that means audit, which is a longer process. Hope this helps!

This is really helpful info, thanks! I don't see any 420 code thank goodness, so hopefully it's just a verification issue. I'll keep an eye out for that 571 code.

Years of dealing with the IRS lol. But there's actually a tool that explains all this way better than I can - taxr.ai - saved me from having to google every single code on my transcript.

the IRS is a JOKE this year. I've had those codes since february and still nothing. called a million times. sent the documents they asked for twice. still nothing. this system is completely broken.

It took me exactly 33 days from seeing those codes to getting my DDD. They reduced my refund by $212 but never sent me a notice explaining why. At this point I'm just happy to get anything back lol

Lol same. I feel like the IRS just makes up random amounts to take from our refunds. Mine got cut by $178 for no apparent reason. No explanation either. 🤡

If your refund is for $7400, its almost certainly going to get reviewed. Any refund over $5k usually triggers additional verification. I went through the same last year. They're checking that you qualify for EIC and child tax credits. Just wait for the letter - it'll tell you exactly what they need. For what it's worth, I had these codes on 3/10/24 and 3/17/24, got letter on 3/20, responded with documents on 3/25, and got DDD on 4/12. So about a month total from codes to money.

That makes sense. I didn't realize there was basically an automatic review for larger refunds. I'll try to be patient!

I've been an accountant for 15 years, and I can tell you the IRS is more backed up and understaffed than I've ever seen. 570/971 combo usually means manual review. With the amount of your refund including EIC/CTC, they're probably verifying eligibility for those credits. The good news is that these reviews are generally pretty quick once they get to them - usually 3-6 weeks total. The bad news is there's nothing you can do to speed it up except wait for their letter and respond immediately with exactly what they ask for.

Just got my DD this morning after having those codes for a month and a half. never got any letter despite the 971 code. They reduced my refund by $52 dollars (random) but at least it finally came through. hang in there!!

YALL NEED TO USE CLAIMYR!!! i swear this is not an ad. i was in exactly this situation - 570/971 codes, panicking because i needed my refund for car repairs. Spent THREE DAYS trying to call IRS direct. found claimyr.com and got a callback from an IRS agent in 30 minutes. agent was able to see that my return was just stuck in verification because i had a new dependent this year. she processed it manually right there on the call. DDD showed up 4 days later. Best $20 I've ever spent to get my $5k refund.

sounds like one of those ads that pops up everywhere. anyone ACTUALLY try this?

I've used it twice. It works exactly as advertised. They just get you through the phone system and secure a callback. You still talk directly to the IRS. It's just a way to skip the hours of redial hell.

Dude I was skeptical too but when you've been on hold for 3 hours and then get disconnected for the 5th time you get desperate lol. It's legit - they just navigate the phone system for you.

This entire tax system is BROKEN. why should we have to be detectives trying to figure out all these stupid codes? why cant they just clearly communicate whats happening with OUR MONEY? so frustrating.

Louder for the people in the back 👏👏👏 It's literally our money they're holding hostage while we try to decode their nonsense.

i was in the same boat literally 2 weeks ago. Those codes appeared 4/30 and 5/7 on my account. I called using claimyr.com and got through to an agent who told me they were verifying my w2 income because there was a small discrepancy with what my employer reported. She manually verified it during the call and my DDD showed up 5/21. Refund hit my account yesterday (5/25). talking to an agent directly was the only thing that worked after weeks of nothing happening.
