Filed 3/1, WMR shows 'still processing', transcript shows code 570 and 971 - what does this mean?
I filed electronically on March 1st and it was accepted the next day. My WMR bar disappeared a week later and has been showing 'Your tax return is still being processed' ever since. Finally got access to my transcript today and I'm seeing code 570 (Additional account action pending) with a date of 5/22/25 and code 971 (Notice issued) with the same date. There's also a TC 150 code showing my tax amount. My expected refund is around $5,280. Does anyone know what these codes mean and if I should be concerned? Do I need to contact the IRS or just wait it out?

Based on your transcript codes, it looks like the IRS has put a hold on your refund (code 570) and is sending you a notice (code 971) explaining why. When these codes share the same date, it typically means they're related to the same issue. The most common reasons for this combo are: - Identity verification needed - Income verification - Credit claims that require review (EIC, Child Tax Credit, etc) - Math error or discrepancy You should receive the notice explaining the specific issue by mail around the date shown on your transcript (5/22). You don't need to call the IRS until you receive and review that notice, unless it's been more than 2 weeks after that date. Many of these holds resolve automatically after review - I've seen plenty of cases where the 570 is followed by a 571 (resolved) and then 846 (refund issued) within 2-3 weeks. Just keep monitoring your transcript for updates.

•thank you! That's really helpful. I was getting worried since its been over two months since I filed. Do you think I need to respond to the notice when it arrives?

•It depends entirely on what the notice says. Some notices just inform you of changes they made and require no action. Others might need you to verify identity or submit documents. Don't take any action until you see exactly what they're asking for.

•I had the exact same codes last year and the notice was just telling me they adjusted my refund amount by $42 because of a math error. Got my (slightly smaller) refund about 10 days after the notice date.

Instead of playing detective and stressing over transcript codes, I started using taxr.ai and it changed everything. You upload your transcript and it explains EXACTLY what's happening with your return in plain English - no more guessing or googling random codes. It highlighted my 570/971 combo and told me precisely what to expect next. The peace of mind alone was worth it! https://taxr.ai

•Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

•It's WAY more than just reading the transcript. It analyzes all your codes together, explains what they mean in your specific situation, predicts your refund timeline, tells you if/when you need to take action, and even explains what notices you might receive. Saved me hours of anxiety and confusion!

•Just tried taxr.ai after seeing this comment and WOW! I've been staring at my transcript for weeks trying to figure out what's happening with my return. The tool explained everything in 2 minutes. Turns out my 570 code wasn't anything serious - just a routine review. Definitely recommend to anyone dealing with IRS delays! 🙌

Had a similar situation with my refund stuck in limbo. After weeks of frustration trying to call IRS with no luck, I tried this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to a live agent. The agent explained that my 570/971 combo was because they needed to verify some income I reported. Super relieved to finally get answers instead of the automated runaround. Talking to an actual human at the IRS made all the difference!

•wait is this actually real? seems too good to be true. The IRS phone system is literally designed to make you give up

•100% real. I was skeptical too, but after trying for THREE WEEKS to get through on my own, I was desperate. They basically navigate the phone system for you and call you when they've got an agent on the line. Saved me hours of being on hold and listening to that awful music 🎵😫

•Worth every penny for me. My refund was several thousand dollars and I needed to know what was happening. Getting answers directly from an IRS agent gave me peace of mind and got my refund moving again. Would definitely use it again rather than waste days trying to call myself.

The 570 code is always frustrating. I had the same thing happen on my 2023 return and ended up waiting over 3 months for my refund. Turned out they were just randomly verifying my W2 info with my employer. No errors found but still took forever. The IRS moves slower than a turtle in molasses. 😑

Does ur WMR show 'still processing' or 'being processed'? There's actually a difference. 'Being processed' is normal processing, 'still being processed' usually means there's an issue they're reviewing.

•mine says 'still being processed' and to check tax topic 152

Anderson Prospero
•Yeah that confirms what the transcript is showing - there's some kind of review happening. Topic 152 is just general info about refund timing, doesn't tell you much. The 971 notice will give you the real details.

This is super common this year. I'm a tax preparer and about 40% of my clients are seeing these codes on their transcripts. Most are getting resolved within 4-6 weeks without any action needed. The IRS is doing a lot more automated verification this year to prevent fraud.

•what about if its been more than 6 weeks? I filed in February and I'm still waiting with the same codes

•If it's been more than 6 weeks since the 570 code appeared (not since you filed), then it might be worth contacting them. But be prepared for a very long wait to speak with someone.

Check if u claimed EIC or ACTC credits. Those automatically get extra scrutiny and can cause those codes to appear. The IRS takes their sweet time with those.

Those codes just mean the IRS is doing what the IRS does best... wasting everyone's time and holding onto your money as long as possible 🤡 Welcome to tax season hell, where the rules are made up and your time doesn't matter!

•I swear they're using our refunds to earn interest before sending them back to us. There's no other explanation for why they move slower than DMV on a Monday morning

I went crazy trying to decipher all these codes myself last year. Then I found taxr.ai which explained everything in seconds. I just uploaded my transcript and boom - instant clarity on what every code meant for MY specific situation. Saved me so much stress trying to piece together random info from forums. https://taxr.ai

•Have you tried calling the IRS lately? 😂 I spent 3+ hours on hold last time I tried. With taxr.ai I got answers in minutes not hours. Plus the explanations are super detailed - way more than what most agents tell you over the phone.

I HAD LITERALLY THE SAME THING. 570/971 with same date. Got a CP12 notice saying they adjusted my refund by $340 due to some math error with my recovery rebate credit. Refund was issued 2 weeks after the notice date. Don't panic yet!

Keep an eye out for a letter in the mail around May 22nd. DO NOT IGNORE IT if it asks for any information or response. I made that mistake last year and my refund was delayed an additional 2 months because I thought the issue would resolve itself.

•good advice, i'll definitely be watching for it. did you eventually get your refund?

•Yes but it was a total nightmare. I had to call them multiple times and even visit a local office. Lesson learned - respond immediately to any IRS correspondence!

Do you have access to your Account transcript or just your Return transcript? The Account transcript will show if they've already mailed a notice and what the notice number is (like CP05, CP12, etc). That could give you clues about what's happening.

McKenzie Shade
•I can see both. Its the account transcript that shows the 570 and 971 codes

•Perfect. Does it show a notice number anywhere? Usually it would be listed near the 971 code, like "CP05" or something similar.

After spending weeks trying to call IRS directly (impossible), I used Claimyr.com to get through to an agent in about 30 minutes. Found out my 570/971 was just because they needed to verify one of my W2s. The agent released my refund right there on the phone. Sometimes talking to a human is the only way to cut through the red tape!

This happened to me and I got a CP12 notice saying they corrected a math error on my return. They reduced my refund by $127 and I got the rest deposited about 10 days after the notice date.

did u file with turbotax? i've noticed tons of people who used them this year are getting these codes. might be something with their software causing verification issues.

•I used H&R Block actually

•interesting, maybe its just a general issue with the major tax software then. so many people having delays this year

Double check your return for accuracy. These codes often show up when there's a mismatch between what you reported and what the IRS has on file from your employers/banks. Common issues: incorrect AGI from previous year, missing 1099 income, math errors on credits.

Just wanted to warn - be careful with your mail! My IRS notice went to my spam folder and I almost missed responding in time. They gave me 30 days to verify some info but I only saw it with 5 days left. Nearly had a heart attack racing to get everything submitted.

•Wait, the IRS sends emails? I thought they only communicated through postal mail?

•No sorry I meant my actual physical mail! My postal carrier put it in with the junk mail and I almost threw it out without looking. The IRS only uses regular mail, you're right.

I'm in exactly the same situation!!! Filed 3/5, got the stupid 570/971 combo last week with 5/20 dates. This thread is making me feel better - sounds like it's probably just a verification or minor adjustment. The waiting game is torture tho 😩

I went through this exact mess and tried for WEEKS to get someone at IRS on the phone with no luck. Finally used claimyr.com and got connected to an agent who explained everything and fixed my issue on the spot. My refund was released within days after that call. Best decision I made after spinning my wheels for so long.

•another vote for claimyr here! used it last month after getting these same codes and hitting a dead end trying to call myself. agent told me they just needed to verify one of my 1099s. problem solved in one call.

I've been dealing with tax issues for years and those codes 570/971 with the same date are actually pretty routine - don't stress too much! The 570 is just a temporary hold while they review something, and 971 means they're sending you a letter explaining what they need. In my experience, about 70% of these cases resolve without you having to do anything - they're just verifying info automatically. The other 30% might need a simple response like confirming your identity or providing a document copy. The key thing is to wait for that notice around 5/22 before taking any action. I've seen people panic and call the IRS prematurely, which just wastes time since the agents can't tell you much more than what your transcript already shows until the review is complete. Keep checking your transcript weekly for updates - you'll see a 571 code when the hold is released, followed by an 846 code with your actual refund date. Hang in there!
