What does Code 570 on transcript mean? Showing hold on refund but no explanation

I filed my taxes digitally in early April 2025 and got accepted right away. Was supposed to get my refund around $3,850 within 21 days according to WMR. It's now July and still nothing. I finally got through to check my transcript online (took forever to verify my identity) and I'm seeing a weird Code 570 with a date of 06-02-2025 that says "additional account action pending." There's no explanation whatsoever about what this means or why my refund is being held up. The "as of" date keeps changing every week too. No letters from the IRS, nothing in the mail. Has anyone else dealt with this code? What does it actually mean and how do I fix whatever the problem is? The IRS phone line is completely useless - I've called at least 15 times and can never get through to a real person.

Code 570 means there's a hold on your account/refund. It's usually followed by a 571 code when the hold is released. The fact that there's no other explanation code is concerning - typically you'd also see a 420 audit code, a 424 examination code, or some other indication of why they're reviewing your return. Check if you have any notices issued on your transcript (usually shown in the top section). If nothing there, you'll unfortunately need to speak with an IRS representative to find out what's going on. They might have sent a letter that got lost in the mail. Some common reasons for 570 codes include: - Income verification issues - Claiming credits they want to verify (EIC, Child Tax Credit, etc) - Math errors they're correcting - Identity verification requirements Keep checking your transcript weekly. Sometimes these resolve on their own, but after 3 months, you probably need to intervene.

Thanks for explaining! I don't see any notice codes at all and definitely haven't received any letters. Do you know the best way to actually talk to someone? I've tried calling right when they open and still just get the "high call volume" message.

Unfortunately the IRS phone system is a complete nightmare. If you keep getting the high volume message, you might want to try the Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS) - they sometimes can help when your refund is delayed more than 45 days from filing or the promised date.

Had same issue last yr. ended up bein nothing serious - just a minor math error. But took 5 months to get my money! The IRS is so backed up its ridiculous.

I had this exact code in March. What they don't tell you is this can often be a random "review" with no actual problem. Mine resolved after 8 weeks with no action on my part - just suddenly got a DD notification. So frustrating.

I was in a similar situation last month - 570 code sitting there for WEEKS. I got so tired of trying to figure it out on my own. I started using taxr.ai and it immediately explained exactly what was happening with my transcript and what to expect next. Saved me hours of searching forums and trying to decode what all these numbers mean. Way better than trying to piece things together from reddit posts. You can check it out at https://taxr.ai - seriously made understanding this mess so much easier.

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

0 coins

It actually analyzes your entire transcript and explains every code in plain english. It even tells you what to expect next and gives you a timeline. I was getting different answers everywhere online about what my codes meant but this gave me the exact explanation for MY specific situation. Seriously was a game changer - I was about to lose my mind trying to figure out what was happening with my refund!

HOLY CRAP I just tried this and WOW. It explained everything in my transcript perfectly and even told me exactly why my refund was delayed (something about income verification that wasn't mentioned anywhere on the IRS site). Everyone dealing with tax transcript confusion needs to know about this tool!!! 🙌🙌

is this some kinda ad? seems sus 🤔

Not an ad, just sharing what helped me. I spent weeks trying to decipher my transcript with no luck. Was honestly about to pay a tax pro $200+ for a consultation until I found this. Do whatever works for you tho 🤷‍♀️

just checked it out - it actually works. was skeptical but my transcript has been giving me anxiety for weeks and this explained everything clearly. thx for sharing

After dealing with a 570 code for nearly 2 months, I finally got through to the IRS using the Claimyr app (claimyr.com). It basically waits on hold for you and calls when an agent is available. Got connected to a real person who explained my 570 code was due to them verifying some education credits I claimed. The agent released my refund right on the spot once I answered a few questions. Talking to someone directly saved me from waiting another 3 months for them to get around to my case.

0 coins

Wait really? And they actually fixed it for you over the phone? I'll try anything at this point...

0 coins

Yeah seriously! They connected me to the right department too, not just a general agent. The person I spoke with had my file pulled up and everything. Best decision I made after wasting days trying to call myself. Worth every penny to finally get my refund processed.

0 coins

hmm sounds sketchy. does it actually work? how much did u pay?

0 coins

It absolutely works. I was super skeptical too but was desperate after trying for weeks to reach someone. Can't remember exactly what I paid but whatever it was, it was worth it to finally get my $4K+ refund released instead of sitting in limbo for months. The IRS phone system is literally designed to be impossible to navigate.

Been in the exact same boat with code 570! Calling nonstop with no luck. Definitely gonna try this - at this point I just need to talk to an actual human at the IRS 😫

0 coins

the 570 code usually means they found a discrepancy. in my case last year they thought I had unreported income (i didnt). took 7 months to resolve and get my money. start checking your mail religiously cause they'll eventually send you something, and if you miss the response deadline it gets even more delayed. good times dealing with the IRS 🙃

0 coins

Yep mine has looked like that since May. I've been checking my transcript every Tuesday and Friday for updates. The "as of" date keeps changing but nothing else. I FINALLY got a letter last week saying they're reviewing my return and I don't need to do anything yet. Super helpful 🙄 Just gotta wait it out I guess.

0 coins

At least you got a letter! I haven't received anything at all from them. So frustrating.

0 coins

The letter literally just said "we're reviewing your return, no action needed at this time" - completely useless info I already knew from the transcript lol. But yeah they're supposed to send something.

0 coins

Check if u claimed any credits like EIC or Additional Child Tax Credit. The IRS puts extra scrutiny on those and often puts 570 holds while they verify. Also if u had any stimulus payments or advance child tax credits they're double checking those too. Its frustrating but unfortunately common these days.

I had this EXACT situation in 2024. Called for months - nothing. Wrote letters - nothing. Finally filed a case with the Taxpayer Advocate Service after waiting 6 months and magically my refund was processed 2 weeks later. Try contacting your local TAS office - google "taxpayer advocate service" + your state. They can help with refunds delayed more than 45 days.

0 coins

Thanks for the suggestion! How do you file a case with them? Do you need to call or is there a form?

0 coins

You need to call your local office. They'll do an intake interview to see if they can take your case. Have all your tax info ready - filing date, expected refund amount, any notice numbers, etc. If your refund is >45 days delayed they usually accept the case.

The 570 is typically them doing a review. With no 420 audit code, it could be something simple they're adjusting internally. I've seen multiple ppl this year with 570s that resolved without any action - just random delays. The IRS is STILL catching up from the pandemic backlog. My advice is to keep checking your transcript weekly and wait for a 571 release code to appear.

0 coins

Sorry to tell you this but i had a 570 code since February and didn't get my refund until June. It was pure hell trying to figure out what was happening. Never did get a letter explaining why. It's like the IRS just randomly selects returns to torture people 👿

0 coins

Same. No rhyme or reason. Just randomly selected for "review" which means sitting in a pile for months. Total bs when people count on that money.

0 coins

Have you verified your identity with ID.me? Sometimes they put a hold until you do that. Check for a letter about identity verification or try logging into ID.me through the IRS site to see if that's the issue.

0 coins

Yes, I had to do the whole ID.me verification just to access my transcript online. That's how I found out about the 570 code in the first place!

0 coins

look at the cycle code on your transcript (should be something like 20222605). the 5th digit tells you which day of the week your account updates. if it ends in 5, you update on thursdays. if it ends in 4, wednesdays, etc. check your transcript after your update day - you might see changes that explain what's happening.

I used to work seasonal for the IRS. Code 570 just means theres an issue they're reviewing. Could be literally anything - math error, missing form, random verification, etc. The fact that there's no notice issued is weird tho. Call the IRS and use the option for "Where's my refund" then when it gives you automated info, DON'T HANG UP. Stay on the line and it'll eventually transfer you to a person. I've found this backdoor works better than trying the main line.

0 coins

Thanks for the insider tip! I'll try that trick tomorrow morning. Hoping it works 🤞

0 coins

This trick used to work but they caught on. Now the automated system just hangs up on you after giving the WMR info. They're getting sneakier about avoiding actual customer service.

I'm literally dealing with the same thing! Filed in March, verified identity in April, and transcript has a 570 code from 5/15. So frustrating. I finally got through to someone using Claimyr (claimyr.com) and they told me my return was flagged for income verification but they never sent me a letter! The agent actually helped resolve everything on the call. Definitely the best money I've spent all year considering it got my $5,200 refund released.

0 coins

did you have to give them personal info to use this service? sounds kinda risky

0 coins

It's just a call back service - they wait on hold with the IRS and then call you when they get through to an agent. Then you talk directly to the IRS yourself. No risk at all. I was honestly desperate after trying for weeks to get through on my own.

0 coins

omg bless you for sharing this! just used it and finally talked to someone after TWO MONTHS of calling. found out my return was flagged for review because of a typo on my W2 that my employer submitted. would never have known without talking to someone.

0 coins

Fun fact: I had a 570 code last year that sat there for 3 months before it magically disappeared and I got my refund. No explanation, no letter, nothing. This year my return was processed in 8 days. The IRS is just completely random at this point 🤷‍♂️

0 coins

I had this exact issue earlier this year. Went crazy trying to decode my transcript and figure out what was happening. I finally broke down and used taxr.ai to analyze my transcript. It immediately showed me that my 570 code was related to a discrepancy with my reported self-employment income and even predicted when my refund would be released. Turns out one of my 1099s was reported incorrectly by the payer. The tool basically translated all that IRS gibberish into plain English. Check it out at https://taxr.ai - saved me so much stress!

0 coins

I've been staring at my transcript for hours trying to understand what's happening with my return. Definitely gonna try this - the IRS website is useless for explaining what all these codes actually mean for MY specific situation.

0 coins

It's honestly amazing. I was ready to pay an accountant hundreds of dollars just to explain what was happening with my return. This gave me a complete breakdown of every code and date on my transcript and what it meant for my refund timeline.

0 coins

Did you claim any pandemic-related credits like EITC or Recovery Rebate? Those are getting extra scrutiny this year. My return had a 570 for over 2 months because they were verifying my eligibility for credits. Never sent a letter either - just had to wait it out.

0 coins

Honestly this happened to me and after months of stress I found out it was because of a simple address mismatch. My W2 had my old address but I filed with my new one. Such a stupid reason to hold $4k for 4 months 😡

0 coins

That's insane! How did you finally find out what the issue was?

0 coins

I finally got through to someone on the phone who told me. Had to verify my address and then they released the hold. But it took FOREVER to get someone on the line who could actually help.

0 coins

I went through this exact nightmare last year! Code 570 with no explanation for months. After reading through all these comments, I wish I had known about some of these resources earlier. What finally worked for me was being persistent with calling - I called every single day at 7am sharp when they opened until I got through (took about 2 weeks of daily calls). Turns out my issue was they needed to verify some education expenses I claimed, but they never sent the letter requesting documentation. The agent was able to clear it up in 10 minutes once I provided the receipts over the phone. My advice: don't just wait it out hoping it resolves itself. Keep calling, try the Taxpayer Advocate Service if you're past 45 days, and document everything. The squeaky wheel gets the grease with the IRS unfortunately. Also check if you moved recently or had any address changes - that seems to trigger these holds more often than you'd think. Good luck! I know how stressful this is when you're counting on that money.

0 coins

This is really helpful advice! I'm definitely going to start calling every morning at 7am like you did. The education expenses thing is interesting - I did claim some tuition credits on my return so that might be what's triggering my hold too. Did you have to mail in physical receipts or were you able to handle everything over the phone? And thanks for mentioning the address change issue - I actually did move last year but updated my address with the IRS before filing. Maybe there's still some confusion in their system about that.

0 coins

I was able to handle everything over the phone! The agent had me describe what the receipts showed and I gave them the exact amounts and dates. They didn't need me to mail anything in, which was a huge relief. For the address thing, even if you updated it with the IRS, if your W-2 or other tax documents still show the old address it can trigger a review. They want everything to match perfectly. The daily calling strategy really does work - it's annoying but you'll eventually get through to someone who can actually help instead of just giving you the runaround.

I'm going through the exact same thing right now! Filed in March, got the 570 code in May, and it's been sitting there ever since with that constantly changing "as of" date. It's so frustrating when you're expecting money and have no idea what's causing the delay. From what I've learned lurking in these forums, the 570 code basically means they put a hold on your account for some reason - could be anything from a simple verification to a random review. The good news is that most people eventually get their refunds, it just takes way longer than it should. I've been checking my transcript religiously every week and calling the IRS whenever I can get through (which is basically never). Haven't received any letters either. One thing that's helped my sanity is knowing I'm not alone - seems like tons of people are dealing with this same issue this year. The IRS is clearly still backed up from everything that's happened the past few years. Keep checking your transcript and hopefully we'll both see that magical 571 code soon that releases our refunds! This whole process is such a nightmare but at least there's light at the end of the tunnel for most people.

Ugh, I feel your pain! I'm dealing with the exact same situation - filed early, got accepted immediately, and now just stuck in limbo with this cryptic 570 code. The constantly changing "as of" date is driving me crazy too because it feels like something should be happening but nothing ever does. Reading through everyone's experiences here has been both reassuring and terrifying - reassuring that I'm not alone, but terrifying that some people waited 6+ months! I've been trying to call but like you said, getting through is basically impossible. The automated system just hangs up on you most of the time. I'm definitely going to try some of the suggestions people mentioned here - especially the daily 7am calling strategy and maybe reaching out to the Taxpayer Advocate Service since it's been over 45 days for me too. Thanks for sharing your experience, it helps to know there are others going through this same nightmare!

I'm going through this exact same nightmare! Filed in February, accepted immediately, and I've had a 570 code sitting on my transcript since April with absolutely no explanation. The "as of" date keeps updating every few weeks but nothing else changes - it's maddening! What's really frustrating is that I can't get through to anyone at the IRS to find out what's actually wrong. I've tried calling probably 20+ times and either get the "high call volume" message or get disconnected. Haven't received a single letter from them either. Reading through all these comments has been both helpful and terrifying - helpful to know I'm not alone, but scary seeing people wait 6+ months! I'm definitely going to try some of the suggestions here, especially the Taxpayer Advocate Service since I'm way past the 45-day mark. Has anyone had success with just waiting it out vs. being proactive about calling? I'm torn between being patient and driving myself crazy trying to reach someone. This whole situation is such a mess when you're counting on that refund money!
