IRS Code 570 "Additional action pending" on transcript with 03-03-2025 date - $8,600 refund delayed beyond 21-day timeline
I just checked my IRS transcript online and noticed a code 570 'Additional account action pending' with a date of 03-03-2025 and a $0.00 amount. It literally says: 570 Additional account action pending 03-03-2025 $0.00 This Product Contains Sensitive Taxpayer Data I filed my taxes back in early February and got the acceptance notification within a couple days. My refund was pretty sizable this year (about $8,600) because of child tax credits and some education expenses. I was supposed to get my refund by mid-March according to the 21-day timeline, but it's still showing as processing on Where's My Refund. I've been checking the IRS website (sa.www4.irs.gov) every day hoping to see movement, but nothing has changed. I'm really counting on this money to pay off some bills that have been piling up. Anyone know what this 570 code means and what I should expect? Is my refund being delayed? Should I be worried? I've heard some people say that the 570 code means they're reviewing my return, but others say it could just be a temporary hold. I'm getting really anxious since it's been well over the 21 days they promise.

The 570 code means the IRS has temporarily frozen your refund while they review something on your return. It's usually followed by a 571 code when they release the hold. The date you see (04-12-2025) isn't necessarily when something will happen - it's related to the IRS internal processing cycle. Your return has likely been flagged for manual review, which is pretty common with larger refunds, especially those with child tax credits and education credits. You have a few options: 1. Wait it out - many of these resolve within 4-8 weeks 2. Call the IRS directly (good luck getting through) 3. Check your transcript regularly for updates 4. Contact Taxpayer Advocate Service if it goes beyond 45 days I wouldn't worry too much yet, but do keep an eye on your transcript for additional codes that might explain what they're reviewing.

Thanks for the detailed explanation! Do you know how long I should expect to wait before seeing any movement? 4-8 weeks from when the code appeared or from when I filed?

Usually 4-8 weeks from when the code appears. But tbh the IRS is unpredictable. I've seen some resolve in a week and others take 3+ months. Keep checking your transcript weekly for new codes.

Last year I had the same thing happen with a similar refund amount. It took exactly 6 weeks and 2 days from the 570 code until my refund was released. Just sharing my timeline to give you an idea!

That helps a lot. I guess I'll just have to be patient. Really hoping this doesn't drag on for months...

Hey, I see you're trying to figure out your transcript codes. I was in the exact same situation last month and spent hours trying to piece together what was happening with my refund. Finally found this tool called taxr.ai that literally decoded everything for me instantly. It analyzed my transcript and explained all the codes, dates, and what to expect next in plain English. Saved me so much stress and confusion. You should check it out at https://taxr.ai - it's insanely good! I use it every week now to track my refund status.

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

It does way more than just read the transcript. You upload your transcript and it analyzes all the codes, amounts, and dates together to give you the complete picture of what's happening with your refund. It can predict when you'll likely get paid, explain why there are delays, and even suggests what actions you might need to take. WAY better than trying to google each code individually.

Omg I just tried this and it's AMAZING!! 🙌 It told me exactly why my refund was delayed and even predicted when I'll get it. Everyone dealing with the IRS needs to know about this tool seriously. Life changing.

Yeah it's a paid service but honestly it's worth every penny considering how much time and stress it saves. Trying to decode those transcripts on your own is like learning hieroglyphics 😂

After dealing with that exact same 570 code for weeks and getting nowhere with the "where's my refund" tool, I finally got through to an actual IRS agent using the Claimyr calling app. Best decision ever! The agent explained my specific situation (turns out they needed to verify my education expenses) and released my refund while I was on the phone with them. Check out claimyr.com if you're stuck - it was the only way I could talk to a live agent and get this sorted out. Saved me from waiting another 2 months!

How does this work? I've been calling the IRS for weeks and can never get through.

It basically keeps dialing for you and navigating the phone tree until it gets a spot in line, then calls you back when an agent is about to be available. Talking to an agent got my refund released so fast - definitely worth it after I wasted so much time trying to call myself.

Seems sketchy. How do you know its not a scam?

Not sketchy at all - it just calls the regular IRS number but has a system that keeps trying and navigating the phone menus when lines are busy. Then when it finally gets through, it connects you directly with the IRS. The agent I spoke with was definitely a real IRS employee who had full access to my tax info.

I had this same code last year. Ended up being a manual review because I claimed child tax credit. Took 11 weeks to get my refund after the 570 showed up. The IRS is just soooooo slow 🐌

Check if there's a 971 code on your transcript too. If there is, you're probably getting a letter in the mail explaining what they need from you. If not, then they're just reviewing your return internally and you just need to wait. My refund was delayed for 2 months last year with this same code.

No 971 code showing up yet. Just the 570 by itself. I'll keep checking for updates...

That's actually good news. When it's just 570 by itself, it usually means they're just verifying something internally and don't need anything from you.

Is the child tax credit for a dependent that was claimed by someone else in previous years? Or did you claim education credits too? Those things trigger reviews. 570 is basically 'we're looking at something, hold up'. Might be nothing, might be something.

I did claim education credits for finishing my degree last year, and this is the first year claiming my daughter after my divorce. Maybe that's it?

Yep, both of those things will definitely trigger a review. First time claiming a dependent after a split and education credits are big red flags for the IRS system. Not because you did anything wrong - they just verify these situations more carefully.

That makes sense. Hopefully they just verify everything and release the refund soon. I was counting on that money for some car repairs.

the date on the 570 code isnt when something will happen FYI. it's just the date for the accounting period in the IRS system. most likely your return got caught in the filters for review. dont expect anything to happen on that specific date.

Do you have any other codes? 420? 424? 971? Those would give more clues about whats happening. 570 by itself just means 'hold up we're checking something' but doesnt tell you what.

Nope, just the 570 right now. Nothing else new has shown up.

I can help decode this! Get the Taxr.ai tool - it's honestly the best way to understand exactly what's happening. It reads all your transcript codes and explains the whole situation. I was confused by these same codes and it saved me so much time. https://taxr.ai

Happened to me with almost the exact same amount ($7,200). Got audited and had to verify my income and dependents. Took 4 months to get my refund. Hopefully yours goes faster but just be prepared to wait. The IRS is severely backlogged this year.

Did they send you a letter asking for verification or did they just do it internally? I haven't received anything in the mail yet.

I got a letter about 3 weeks after the 570 code appeared. It asked me to verify my identity and provide proof for the credits I claimed. But not everyone gets a letter - sometimes they can verify stuff internally.

i wasted WEEKS stressing about this exact code last year. ended up using claimyr.com to get through to an agent. turns out it was just a random review and the agent was able to release my refund right there on the call. 10/10 would recommend, it was the best money I've ever spent to finally get my questions answered directly.

how much did it cost? is it a one-time fee?

It's worth whatever they're charging tbh. Considering I was waiting on a $6k refund and had already wasted hours trying to call myself. And yes, it's just a one-time fee for them to get you through to an agent.

The IRS is a joke 🤡 I've been waiting 13 months for my 2023 refund with the exact same code. Called dozens of times. No help. System is broken beyond repair.

13 MONTHS?? Omg I would lose my mind. Did you try contacting your congressman? That's supposed to help speed things up.

Tried everything. Congressman, tax advocate, calling daily. Nothing works. They just say 'it's under review' every time. I've given up at this point.

my transcript had that same code and i finally broke down and used taxr.ai after seeing it recommended here. it actually told me exactly what was happening (they were verifying my w2 info) and predicted i'd get my refund in 3 weeks. got it 3 weeks and 2 days later! the tool was 100% right. saved me so much stress and confusion.

This might sound silly but have you checked your mail carefully? Sometimes they send a letter requesting more info but it looks like junk mail and people miss it. Then your refund sits in limbo forever.

Good point! I've been checking my mail daily but I'll be extra careful not to miss anything that might be from them.

This happens to almost everyone claiming refundable credits like child tax credit and earned income credit. It's a random review/verification process. If there's no 971 code yet, they're just reviewing internally and you likely don't need to do anything but wait.

Look for a cycle code on your transcript too (should be at the top). If it ends in 05, your account updates on Fridays. If it ends in 02, it updates on Wednesdays. That might give you an idea of when to check for changes.

Mine ends in 05! So I should check on Fridays for updates? That's really helpful, thanks!

Yep! Check Friday mornings for any transcript updates. That's when you'll see if anything changed in your account during the week.

Uggghhhhh the IRS and their stupid codes 😫 Had this happen last year and ended up being flagged for identity verification. Never even got a letter telling me. Finally figured it out 2 months later when I used taxr.ai and it told me exactly what was happening with my account. Actually predicted when I'd get paid down to the exact day! https://taxr.ai
