IRS code 570 holding up my $6,416 refund (EIC + credits) since March - should I call or keep waiting?

I filed my taxes back in February and got the acceptance message pretty quick. I was supposed to get a refund of $6,416. When I look at my transcript, I can see the detailed breakdown: TRANSACTIONS CODE EXPLANATION OF TRANSACTION CYCLE DATE AMOUNT 150 Tax return filed 20250905 03-19-2025 $0.00 79221-441-37547-5 806 W-2 or 1099 withholding 04-14-2025 -$939.00 766 Credit to your account 04-16-2025 -$2,700.00 768 Earned income credit 04-17-2025 -$4,877.00 570 Additional account action pending 03-18-2025 $0.00 This Product Contains Sensitive Taxpayer Data I've been checking my transcript regularly and noticed this weird code 570 "Additional account action pending" from 03-18-2025 showing up. Does anyone know what this means? It's been almost 2 months now and I haven't received my refund. The IRS "Where's My Refund" tool just says it's still processing. My transcript shows my withholdings of $939, plus some credits including $2,700 tax credit and $4,877 EIC, but that code 570 appears to be holding everything up. I really need this money to pay off some bills. Should I call them about the "Additional account action pending" status, or just keep waiting? Has anyone experienced this 570 code before and know how long it typically takes to resolve?

Mateo Hernandez

Code 570 means there's a hold on your account/refund. It's usually followed by a 971 code which is a notice issued. The IRS is likely reviewing your return for some reason - could be identity verification, could be verifying your credits (especially with the EIC), or could be a random review. Since it's been almost 2 months, I'd recommend calling them to find out what's going on. They might have sent you a letter that got lost in the mail. If they need additional information from you, your refund will be delayed until you respond. Look at your transcript again to see if there's a 971 code too - that would indicate they sent you a notice. Also check for a 420 code which means they're doing an audit.

Thanks so much! I just checked again and I don't see any 971 code, just the 570. Should I wait longer or try calling?

If it's been 2 months already, I'd definitely call. You might be stuck in limbo waiting for something you don't know about. The hold could be something simple they need to verify.

You should definitely call. I was in the same situation last year and it turned out they needed to verify my identity. Once I called and completed the verification, my refund was released within 2 weeks.

Good to know! I'll try calling tomorrow. Any tips for actually getting through to a human? 😩

Goodluck getting through on the phone... i spent literal DAYS trying. Finally used claimyr.com and got a callback from an agent within an hour. Best $25 I ever spent cuz I was about to lose my mind on hold music 🎵

I just went through this exact same issue with a 570 code. Spent weeks trying to figure out what was going on with my transcript. Finally discovered taxr.ai which basically translated all the transcript codes and showed me exactly what was happening with my refund. Turns out I had a simple math error that the IRS automatically fixed, but they held my refund during the review. The tool showed me exactly when the hold was placed and when it would likely be released based on my codes. Super helpful - way better than making wild guesses from Google searches. https://taxr.ai

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

It analyzes your full transcript and explains each code in plain English. It also provides timelines for when you can expect different actions and what to do if there's a problem. Way more detailed than the generic IRS explanations.

Just tried it and WOW this is a game changer! It literally explained exactly what was happening with my return and gave me a projected release date for my refund. No more guessing or stressing. Everyone dealing with the IRS needs to know about this tool!!!

It's super reasonable considering how much stress it saves. I would've paid double honestly after spending weeks trying to decode my transcript myself.

After dealing with a similar 570 issue and not being able to reach anyone at the IRS (tried calling literally 23 times), I found this app called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an IRS agent. Instead of waiting on hold for hours, they called me when they reached an agent. The agent explained that my return was flagged for review of my Earned Income Credit but was actually completed - just waiting for the hold to be released. Talking to a live agent gave me peace of mind and they expedited my refund. Honestly the best money I spent all year considering I was waiting on thousands in my refund.

This sounds like an ad. Does this actually work? I've tried calling so many times with no luck.

I was skeptical too but it actually works. They basically call for you and use their system to navigate the phone tree, then connect you once they get a human. Saved me hours of frustration.

I tried this last week after being on hold for 3 hours and hanging up in frustration. Got connected to an agent in about 40 minutes. They helped me verify my identity which was apparently why my refund was held up.

Just tried it and finally talked to someone at the IRS! Turns out they were reviewing my EIC claim (just like you) and the agent helped clear it up. Should get my refund in 2-3 weeks! THANK YOU!!

I had the same 570 code back in April. In my case, they were doing an income verification. The annoying part is they don't tell you and if they need more info, they'll send a letter which can take weeks to arrive. Then you have to mail back documents (they rarely accept online submissions) and wait more weeks for processing. The whole system is a joke. My advice - call them ASAP because if they need something from you, the clock is already ticking.

So true about the letters! They sent mine to my old address even though I updated it when I filed. By the time I got it forwarded, I had already missed the 30-day deadline 😡

Classic IRS... their computer systems are from the stone age. Took them 5 months to process my change of address last year.

570 code in march usually means they're doing a review on somethin on ur tax return. most likely the earned income credit since thats a common one they check. if u have kids they might be checking if someone else claimed them or if u qualify for the credit. they probly sent u a letter but who knows with the usps these days lol

Most people with 570 codes this year are seeing delays of 60-120 days based on what I've seen in forums. The IRS is severely backlogged and understaffed. Unless you can get through on the phone (good luck), you're probably just going to have to wait it out like the rest of us 🙃

Wait I thought they hired thousands of new staff with that funding bill? My cousin works there and says they're still training most of them so it hasn't helped much yet. The whole system is a mess.

They did hire more people but its like trying to empty the ocean with a teaspoon. They're YEARS behind on processing and technology upgrades.

Last year I had a 570 code followed by a 971 notice issued code. Turned out I had made a simple math error on my return when entering my W-2 info (transposed two numbers). The IRS automatically corrected it, but held my refund during the review process. The notice explained the correction. Check if there are any discrepancies between what you reported and your actual tax documents. That could be what's triggering the hold.

Just a heads up - if your 570 is related to identity verification, you might be able to complete it online through ID.me without calling. Go to irs.gov and look for identity verification options. But since you've already waited 2 months, I'm guessing it might be something else.

I tried looking for this but I don't think it applies to me. I already created an ID.me account to access my transcripts online.

Yeah if you already accessed your transcript with ID.me then that's probably not the issue. Must be something else. Definitely time to call!

I'm going through this exact situation right now! My 570 code was from February and I FINALLY got my refund last week. I called multiple times but could never get through. Finally reached them through the Taxpayer Advocate Service who told me my return was pulled for review due to a document mismatch. Apparently my employer reported different numbers than what was on my W-2. Once that was cleared up, the refund was released. If calling the main line doesn't work, try the Taxpayer Advocate!

Thank you! How long did it take from when they resolved the issue until you got your refund?

0 coins

-

About 2 weeks after they told me it was resolved. The transcript updated with a 571 code (which reverses the 570 hold) and then the 846 refund issued code appeared a few days later.

Oh honey you're in for a wait. I had the same thing happen and didn't get my refund for 5 months. 5. MONTHS. The IRS is a complete disaster. I finally broke down and tried that claimyr.com service everyone talks about and was able to speak to someone who said my return was "in errors" but wouldn't tell me what the error was 🙃 Just said to keep waiting. Finally arrived in August after filing in February!

if you have a 570 without a 971 code it can mean one of two things: either they're still reviewing it internally and haven't decided to send you a notice yet, or they already fixed a simple error and are about to release your refund. check again in a week - if you see a 571 code that means the hold was removed and your refund should be coming. if you see a 971 that means they're sending you a letter.

Thank you! This is super helpful. Will keep an eye out for those codes.

For those saying call the IRS - i literally laughed out loud. 😂 Have you TRIED calling them lately?? Impossible to get through unless you have 5 hours to waste listening to hold music. I went through this 570 code nonsense too and ended up using taxr.ai to analyze my transcript. It showed me exactly what was happening and predicted my refund release date within 2 days of when it actually came. Saved me from having a nervous breakdown checking WMR every day.

It's an AI tool that reads your IRS transcript and explains what's happening in plain English. Shows timelines, explains all the codes, and tells you what to expect next. Basically does what the IRS should be doing but doesn't.

Just checked it out and used it on my transcript. Holy crap this is amazing! It actually explained that my 570 code was due to a math error they fixed (I accidentally reported a 1099 twice). Said my refund should be released in approximately 2 weeks based on similar cases. SO much better than the useless IRS tool!

Pro tip: If you're getting the EIC, your return automatically gets extra scrutiny - that's likely what the 570 is about. They're making sure you actually qualify for it. It's one of the most abused credits so they check almost all of them. If everything is legit, you'll get your refund, just takes longer. Welcome to the EIC delay club! 👋

0 coins

-

NebulaNinja

I see you have an income credit of $3,877. That's a big EIC claim and those almost always get additional review (the 570 code). They're checking to make sure you meet all eligibility requirements. Did you have a significant income change from 2023? That can also trigger reviews.

0 coins

-

Nia Jackson

Yeah actually I did have a big income change. I was unemployed for part of 2024 so I made about $18,000 less than in 2023. Could that be why?

0 coins

-

20d

NebulaNinja

That's definitely it then. Large income drops that suddenly qualify you for EIC get flagged for verification. Don't worry - as long as everything is legitimate you'll get your refund. It just takes longer.

OMG the exact same thing happened to me! Filed in Feb, 570 code in March, and I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out what was happening. I finally used that claimyr service to get through to an agent (claimyr.com). My issue was they needed to verify my dependents because my ex also tried to claim them 🙄 Once I faxed them the documents, my refund was processed within 3 weeks. Talking to an agent was the only way I found out what was happening - they never sent me a letter!

Does the cycle code on your transcript end in 05? If so you're on weekly processing and your transcript updates every Friday. If it ends in 01-04 then you're daily and it can update any day. Check again Friday morning to see if there's any change.

I know everyone's saying call, but honestly the IRS is so backed up right now you'll probably just get your refund before you can even reach someone. I had a 570 back in January, never called, and my refund magically appeared in April. The system is broken but eventually works...sometimes...

Just a thought - with that Earned Income Credit amount, do you have dependents? Make sure nobody else (like an ex) claimed the same dependents on their return. That's a common reason for 570 holds on returns with EIC. The IRS has to determine who has the right to claim them.
