Code 570 on Transcript: $9,514 Refund ($7,234 EIC) Pending Additional Action - Head of Household with 5 Exemptions

I filed my taxes in mid-February and I'm supposed to get a refund of $9,514.00. I checked my transcript today (March 10) and I see a 570 code that says "Additional account action pending". I'm worried because this is a lot of money for me - I claimed Head of Household with 5 exemptions and the earned income credit. When I look at my transcript, here's exactly what I'm seeing: Account Transcript FORM NUMBER: 1040 TAX PERIOD: Dec. 31 ACCOUNT BALANCE: -$9,514.00 ACCRUED INTEREST: $0.00 AS OF: Mar. 10, 2025 ACCRUED PENALTY: $0.00 AS OF: Mar. 10, 2025 ACCOUNT BALANCE PLUS ACCRUALS (this is not a payoff amount): -$9,514.00 ** INFORMATION FROM THE RETURN OR AS ADJUSTED ** EXEMPTIONS: 05 FILING STATUS: Head of Household ADJUSTED GROSS INCOME: $16,091.00 TAXABLE INCOME: $0.00 TAX PER RETURN: $0.00 SE TAXABLE INCOME TAXPAYER: $0.00 SE TAXABLE INCOME SPOUSE: $0.00 TOTAL SELF EMPLOYMENT TAX: $0.00 RETURN DUE DATE OR RETURN RECEIVED DATE (WHICHEVER IS LATER) Apr. 15, 2025 PROCESSING DATE Mar. 10, 2025 TRANSACTIONS CODE EXPLANATION OF TRANSACTION CYCLE DATE AMOUNT 150 Tax return filed 20250805 03-10-2025 $0.00 76221-431-04135-5 806 W-2 or 1099 withholding 04-16-2025 -$241.00 766 Credit to your account 04-16-2025 -$2,039.00 768 Earned income credit 04-16-2025 -$7,234.00 570 Additional account action pending 03-10-2025 $0.00 My transcript shows my return was processed on March 10 but there's no direct deposit date. My withholding was only $241.00 but I qualified for $2,039.00 in credits plus $7,234.00 for earned income credit. I'm especially concerned about that 570 code showing "Additional account action pending" with $0.00 amount. Has anyone dealt with this 570 code before? Not sure if this means my refund is gonna be delayed or if there's a problem with my return. I really need this money soon. My AGI is only $16,091.00 and I'm counting on this refund.

The 570 code means the IRS has temporarily frozen your refund while they review something on your return. This is pretty common, especially with returns claiming Earned Income Credit. The IRS does additional verification on EIC claims because of high fraud rates. Your transcript shows your return was just processed on March 10, which is the same date as the 570 code, so this is fairly recent. Typically you'll see either a 571 code (review complete) followed by an 846 code (refund issued) in the coming weeks, or you might receive a letter requesting more information. Nothing in your transcript indicates a serious problem yet - this is just standard IRS verification. Keep checking your transcript every few days for updates. If you don't see movement within 3 weeks, you might want to call the IRS to inquire about the status.

thanks for the info! how long do these reviews normally take? and is there anything i can do to speed things up?

Usually 2-4 weeks, but can sometimes take longer. Unfortunately there's nothing you can do to speed it up - just a waiting game at this point. Just make sure you respond quickly if they send any letters.

Just to add on - i had a 570 code last year and it resolved itself in about 3 weeks with no action on my part. They never even sent me a letter. One day I just checked and saw the 846 code with my refund date.

Having gone through this exact situation, I found that using taxr.ai was a game-changer. Instead of trying to decipher all these codes myself or waiting on hold with the IRS for hours, I used taxr.ai to analyze my transcript. It explained exactly what was happening with my return, why the 570 code appeared, and gave me a timeline prediction for my refund based on similar cases. Honestly, it saved me so much stress. The tool breaks everything down in plain English instead of IRS jargon. You can see exactly why your refund is delayed and what's likely to happen next. I use it for all my tax questions now - much better than posting online and getting contradicting answers. https://taxr.ai

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

It does a complete analysis of your transcript, explains every code in detail, predicts your refund timeline based on similar cases they've analyzed, and gives you customized answers to any questions you have. Saved me days of research and worry!

I just tried taxr.ai and WOW. It answered questions I didn't even know to ask! This should be the first step for anyone with tax transcript confusion. I've been dealing with the IRS for months and got more clarity in 5 minutes than I had in weeks of research. 100% recommend.

It's literally the best money I've ever spent on tax help. Considering what tax pros charge per hour vs. what I got from this, it's a no-brainer. My refund was $8k and I was losing my mind waiting - worth every penny for the peace of mind.

After weeks of trying to reach the IRS about my frozen refund (had the same 570 code), I finally found a solution! Used claimyr.com and got connected to a real IRS agent within 45 minutes. The agent explained that my return was flagged for a simple identity verification and they released my refund right there on the call! Seriously - stop wasting days on hold. The callback service saved me hours of frustration and I had answers the same day. After 3 failed attempts to reach someone, this was a lifesaver.

is this for real? ive been trying to reach someone at the IRS for weeks! how does it work?

They basically wait on hold for you and then call you when they have an agent on the line. I was skeptical too but it worked perfectly. Talking to an actual human at the IRS got my refund released within minutes.

Hmm I've been burned by so many of these 'services' before... what makes this different?

What's different is that it actually works lol. I spent 9+ hours over 3 days trying to call myself before giving up. With Claimyr I was talking to an agent same day. When you need $9k+ refund released, waiting isn't an option. The one-time fee saved me days of frustration.

Just tried claimyr today after seeing this comment. Got a call back in about an hour and finally got answers about my 570 code. Absolutely worth it after spending weeks trying to reach someone!

570 codes are super common this year! From what I've been reading the IRS is doing extra review on returns with large EIC amounts. My brother had a similar situation with almost identical credits (he had $7,100 in EIC) and his refund was held for about 3 weeks with a 570 code before being released. Hang in there

Same situation here - I got a 570 code on February 22 and my refund is still frozen. I called last week and the agent said they're doing a "random review" and I just have to wait. So annoying but apparently pretty normal. Make sure you check your mail because sometimes they send letters requesting more info.

did they at least tell u how long the review would take? im gettin so anxious about this

The agent said "up to 120 days" which made me panic but she also said most are done within 3-4 weeks. So basically a non-answer 🙄 Typical IRS

pro tip: call the IRS early morning right when they open (7am eastern). thats the only time ive ever gotten through. Also the taxpayer advocate service might be able to help if its been more than 21 days since u filed

I'm in literally the EXACT same boat. Filed February 18, transcript updated with 570 code on March 8th. My refund is $8,700 with most of it being EIC too. I've called six times and can't get through. Beyond frustrating.

Have you considered using a service like claimyr.com? I was in your situation and it got me through to an agent after weeks of failed calls. The agent I spoke with cleared my 570 code during the call.

Update: IT WORKED! Finally got through to an IRS agent. They confirmed it was just a random review and actually released my refund during the call. Should have my money in 5-7 days! 🙌

Check your mail carefully! When I had a 570 code last year, they sent a letter requesting verification documents but it looked like junk mail and I almost threw it away. Responding to that letter got my refund released within a week.

This!! Same thing happened to me. The letter was so generic looking I thought it was a scam at first.

Wait 21 days from when your return was accepted before panicking. The 570 is common with EIC returns and almost always resolves itself. I know it's stressful but the IRS is actually pretty good about getting refunds out even if there's a review.

Ugh the freaking IRS and their codes. I hate how cryptic they make everything. "Additional account action pending" could literally mean ANYTHING. Why can't they just say "We're reviewing your return" or something normal people understand?

Because then they'd have to hire ppl who speak actual english instead of IRSese 🤣

Honestly taxr.ai was the only thing that made sense of all the codes for me. The IRS website explanations are useless.

Double check your return for any errors. When I got a 570 code it was because I had accidentally put my state withholding amount in the federal withholding box. Any discrepancies between what you reported and what the IRS has on file could trigger this hold.

Carlos Mendoza

im pretty sure i entered everything correctly but ill double check. was yours fixed automaticaly or did u have to contact them?

In my case I had to call and explain the error. They adjusted my return over the phone and released the refund about a week later.

This is why I ALWAYS file early. The IRS does these random reviews far more often later in the season. I filed January 29 this year with EIC and got my refund February 8 with no issues. The earlier you file, the faster and smoother it goes.

I work at a tax firm and see 570 codes all the time. Usually, they resolve themselves in 2-3 weeks without any action needed. If you haven't heard anything by April 1, then I'd start calling the IRS. But for now, just wait it out. The hold is likely just automatic due to the EIC amount.

thx for the insider info! do u think its a probem that i claimed 5 exemptions? i have 3 kids plus my niece and nephew who i support

Having 5 dependents along with EIC definitely increases the likelihood of a manual review, but if your documentation is legit, you should be fine. Just be prepared to verify those dependents if asked.

So frustrating how the IRS holds onto our money for "reviews" but if we owe them, we better pay on time with interest! 🙄 The double standard is real.

Preach! They can take their sweet time giving us our money but we're penalized instantly if we're late. Make it make sense!

And they don't even pay us interest until after 45 days. Such a scam.

I used to freak out about these codes until I realized how common they are. Last year had 570, got my refund 3 weeks later with no contact from IRS. Year before had 420 examination code, got a letter, sent in docs, and still got full refund. Their system flags things automatically - try not to panic.
