570 code appeared on transcript after 3/29 ID verification - will my $9,393 refund (EIC + withholding) be delayed past 5/2?

Just got an update on my transcript overnight at 3:14am on 4/15. Filed electronically on 3/5, accepted on 3/6. Had to verify my identity on 3/29. Checked my transcript again today and saw a 570 code (Additional account action pending) dated 5/2. My refund is showing as $9,393.00. Does anyone know if this 570 code is just from the ID verification I already completed? Or do I need to do something else? Getting worried as I've been counting on this money. Here's the exact information from my Account Transcript that I pulled today: Internal Revenue Service United States Department of the Treasury This Product Contains Sensitive Taxpayer Data Request Date: 02-28-2025 Response Date: 02-28-2025 FORM NUMBER: 1040 TAX PERIOD: Dec. 31, 2024 ACCOUNT BALANCE: -9,393.00 ACCRUED INTEREST: 0.00 AS OF: Mar. 17, 2025 ACCRUED PENALTY: 0.00 AS OF: Mar. 17, 2025 ACCOUNT BALANCE PLUS ACCRUALS (this is not a payoff amount): -9,393.00 INFORMATION FROM THE RETURN OR AS ADJUSTED EXEMPTIONS: 02 FILING STATUS: Head of Household ADJUSTED GROSS INCOME: 20,396.00 TAXABLE INCOME: 0.00 TAX PER RETURN: 0.00 SE TAXABLE INCOME TAXPAYER: 0.00 SE TAXABLE INCOME SPOUSE: 0.00 TOTAL SELF EMPLOYMENT TAX: 0.00 RETURN DUE DATE OR RETURN RECEIVED DATE (WHICHEVER IS LATER) Apr. 15, 2025 PROCESSING DATE Mar. 17, 2025 TRANSACTIONS CODE EXPLANATION OF TRANSACTION CYCLE DATE AMOUNT 150 Tax return filed 20250905 03-17-2025 $0.00 30221-423-39404-5 806 W-2 or 1099 withholding 04-15-2025 -$3,480.00 766 Credit to your account 04-15-2025 -$1,700.00 768 Earned income credit 04-15-2025 -$4,213.00 570 Additional account action pending 03-17-2025 $0.00 I'm confused why there's a 570 code when I already verified my identity. The 570 code is dated 03-17-2025 on my transcript but when I look at the WMR tool it's showing 05/02. My processing date shows as March 17, 2025 but the ID verification was completed on 3/29. Does this mean my return is still being reviewed even after verification? I really need this $9,393.00 refund soon - it shows my withholding of $3,480.00, earned income credit of $4,213.00, and that other credit of $1,700.00. The transcript shows my account balance as -$9,393.00 which I understand means they owe me that amount. Has anyone else had a 570 code appear after identity verification was completed? Is there something else I need to do, or do I just wait?

The 570 code means there's some additional account action needed before your refund can be processed. It's sometimes related to ID verification, but since you already completed that, this could indicate something else. Here's what this likely means: - The 570 code by itself is basically a "hold" on your refund - You should see a 571 code eventually when the hold is released - Sometimes the IRS needs to manually review returns with large EIC amounts like yours - Your return amounts look normal for your filing status and income level A few things you can try: 1. Call the IRS at 800-829-1040 (though getting through is difficult) 2. Check your online account at IRS.gov for any notices 3. Wait about 2 weeks - sometimes these resolve automatically 4. Check your transcript again for additional code updates The good news is that a 570 by itself usually doesn't mean an audit, just extra processing time.

Thanks for the detailed response! Do you know how long after a 570 code usually takes before getting resolved? I'm stressing out waiting.

It varies wildly unfortunately. Could be a week, could be a month. The IRS is chronically understaffed so these manual reviews take time. Just keep checking your transcript every few days for updates.

i had this same situation last year and it took exactly 16 days from 570 to getting my deposit. hang in there!

I was in a similar situation and found taxr.ai which literally saved me weeks of confusion. It analyzed my transcript and explained that my 570 code was because of an income verification check (which wasn't obvious to me). It showed me exactly what was happening with my refund and the timeline I could expect. Honestly dealing with the IRS is like being a detective trying to piece together clues, but this tool just laid everything out clearly. Check it out at https://taxr.ai - it's insanely good! I use it every week now to track my refund progress instead of stressing about cryptic codes.

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

It actually does a full analysis of your transcript, explains every code in plain English, and gives you a timeline of what's happening. It caught something I completely missed - that my employer reported different income than what I filed. Saved me from potential audit headaches!

HOLY CRAP THIS TOOL IS AMAZING! Just tried it and it showed me exactly why my refund was delayed (something about a math error I had no idea about). Cannot recommend this enough to anyone dealing with IRS issues. Better than any tax pro I've talked to!

does it need all your personal info? seems sketchy

No actually - you just upload the transcript you already downloaded from the IRS. Same info that's in the post above. It just reads and analyzes what's already there. Way better than trying to google every code.

I had the same 570 code issue and was going crazy trying to reach someone at the IRS. After days of busy signals, I found this calling service at claimyr.com that got me through to an actual human at the IRS in less than 2 hours. The agent told me my hold was because they needed to verify something with my W-2 income. They fixed it right on the call and my refund was released 3 days later. Talking to an agent got my refund released so fast instead of waiting who knows how long. Worth every penny since I was able to get my $8k+ refund freed up!

Wait does that actually work? I've been trying to call for weeks and can't get through!

Yes! It saved me so much time and frustration. The service basically waits on hold for you and calls when they get an agent. I was skeptical too but was desperate to get my refund.

Not a scam at all - I used it too when I had a similar issue with a frozen refund. Got through to IRS in about 45 minutes when I'd been trying for days on my own. It was the only way I could talk to a live agent.

just tried it and got a callback from the IRS in 1.5 hours! agent confirmed my ID verification went through but there was a separate issue with my W2 that needed to be cleared. refund should be coming next week now! thanks for the recommendation!

The 570 code was probably triggered by the ID verification, but sometimes they don't remove the hold automatically even after you complete the verification. Dumb system. I had this EXACT situation last filing season and had to call to get them to manually remove the hold.

Your refund looks higher than normal for your income level. The IRS probably flagged it for manual review. They're being super careful with EIC claims this year cause of all the fraud. I'd just wait it out.

Thats not true, their refund looks normal for Head of Household with EIC and probably Child Tax Credits. The 570 is just standard procedure after ID verify.

You're right, I missed the head of household part. My bad.

I see you have a $4,213.00 Earned Income Credit. That's a pretty big EIC and probably triggered an income review. The IRS does this randomly to check that your income qualifies you for the full EIC amount. I had a similar situation where I had to wait 5 weeks after getting a 570 code before my refund was released. Super annoying but eventually cleared up on its own.

That's helpful context. Did you have to provide any additional documentation or did it just resolve on its own?

Mine resolved on its own. But my sister had a similar hold and got a letter asking for proof of income about 3 weeks after the 570 appeared. Just keep an eye on your mailbox.

Check your mailbox carefully for the next few weeks. Often when a 570 appears, they're sending you a letter requesting more information. I missed mine and it delayed my refund by months!

This this this!!! 👆 I didn't realize they sent a letter and my refund got delayed for 3 months last year because I didn't respond to their request for documentation.

The 570 code is the IRS's way of saying "we're going to make you wait for no apparent reason" 🙄 Its their favorite code. My 2023 return had that code for 4 months before it magically cleared with no explanation. The system is a joke.

Same. Had a 570 that stayed for 6 weeks, then one morning checked and money was in my account with no other updates or explanation. IRS is truly a black box of mystery.

Yep. My mom got a 570 after filing in February and didn't get her refund until AUGUST. No explanation, no letter, nothing. Just random hold then random release 🤡

CALL THEM!!!! Don't wait around hoping it resolves. I waited 8 weeks with a 570 code until I finally called and they told me they just needed to verify one thing that took 2 minutes to clear up on the phone. Got my deposit 5 days later. Don't trust them to figure it out on their own!

I've been trying to call but can't get through! It's so frustrating. Just busy signals or it hangs up due to high call volume.

Try calling right when they open at 7am Eastern. That's how I finally got through. Or try the tax advocate line instead.

Try the claimyr.com service. Got me through to an IRS agent when I thought it was impossible. Fixed my 570 hold in one call.

Pro tip: Keep checking your transcript daily. Sometimes they update at random times, not just once a week like people say. My 570 changed to a 571 (hold released) on a Tuesday evening which wasn't supposed to be an update day.

The whole system is designed to deny people their refunds for as long as possible. They hold our money interest-free while we struggle. It's criminal.

-

Ashley Simian

If we owed them money they'd charge interest and penalties immediately, but when they owe us? "Just wait, we'll get to it eventually" 🙄

This is why I always adjust my W4 to have minimal withholding. Better to owe a small amount than give them an interest-free loan all year.

that 570 code is often linked to the earned income credit. with 4213 in EIC they prob wanna make sure your eligible. Had this last year, they sent a letter asking for proof of income and my kids birth certificates. After I sent that it took about 3 weeks to get my refund.

I'm in the exact same boat. Filed 3/1, had to verify 3/22, got 570 code on 4/10. Still waiting. Supposedly there's a huge backlog for manual reviews this year. I talked to a tax advocate who said they're running 45-60 days behind schedule on manual reviews. The system is completely broken. 😡

45-60 days?! That's insane! I was counting on this money for bills.

I know, it's ridiculous. Exactly why I tried taxr.ai that someone mentioned above - at least it told me exactly why mine was delayed (which the advocate couldn't even tell me). Gave me peace of mind.

i work at a tax firm and see this all the time. the 570 after ID verify is normal. usually clears in 2-4 weeks if everything else on your return checks out. if you claimed any children or dependents they might need to verify that too.

Did your Where's My Refund tool update at all? Mine's been stuck on "still processing" for weeks even though my transcript has all kinds of activity and codes.

This happened to me last year due to a name mismatch with social security records (I got married). The 570 sat there for 11 weeks before i got a letter explaining the issue. After I fixed it, took another 3 weeks to get my money. Check that all your info matches your social security card exactly.
