Code 570 on transcript - Will my $7,285 refund be delayed until March 17 or April 15, 2025?

I filed my tax return on January 28 this year and got accepted the same day. I was supposed to get a refund of $7,285 total. I've been checking the WMR tool every day but it still says processing. I decided to check my transcript today and noticed code 570 'Additional account action pending' with a date of March 17, 2025. Here's what my transcript shows: TOTAL SELF EMPLOYMENT TAX: 0.00 RETURN DUE DATE OR RETURN RECEIVED DATE (WHICHEVER IS LATER) Apr. 15, 2025 PROCESSING DATE Mar. 17, 2025 TRANSACTIONS CODE EXPLANATION OF TRANSACTION | CYCLE DATE | AMOUNT 150 Tax return filed | 20250903 03-17-2025 | $0.00 80211-440-42276-5 806 W-2 or 1099 withholding | 04-15-2025 | -$2,265.00 766 Credit to your account | 04-15-2025 | -$1,543.00 768 Earned income credit | 04-15-2025 | -$3,477.00 570 Additional account action pending | 03-17-2025 | $0.00 This Product Contains Sensitive Taxpayer Data I'm really confused about what's happening. My processing date shows as March 17, 2025. I also see codes for my W-2 withholding (-$2,265.00), some kind of credit (-$1,543.00), and my earned income credit (-$3,477.00). When I add these up, it's the $7,285 refund I was expecting. Does this 570 code mean my refund won't even be looked at until March 17th? That's still weeks away! I'm really counting on this money for some bills coming up and don't understand why it's taking so long when everyone else I know already got their refunds. Is there something wrong with my return? Should I call the IRS or just keep waiting? The cycle date says 20250903 - does that mean anything important?

Landon Morgan

The 570 code means there's an issue that's being reviewed, but it doesn't necessarily mean you'll have to wait until April 26th to get your refund. The date associated with the 570 code is not when they'll look at your return - it's an administrative date related to the hold placed on your account. There are a few common reasons for a 570 code: • Identity verification needed • Income discrepancy between what you reported and what the IRS received from employers • Missing information or forms • Math errors that need correction • Suspected fraud indicators Keep watching your transcript for a 971 code (Notice Issued) which often follows. That will tell you what the specific issue is. Sometimes these holds resolve on their own without any action from you, but you might receive a letter explaining what's needed. Also watch for code 571 (which means the hold was removed) and then hopefully code 846 (refund issued). If you don't receive any notice within 2 weeks, you might want to call the IRS to inquire about the specific reason for the hold.

Thank you so much for this detailed explanation. I have been so stressed about this. I will watch for those codes you mentioned. Do you know how long these reviews typically take?

It really varies. Some are resolved in a week or two, others can take 6-8 weeks. The bigger your refund and more complex your return, the more likely it is to get flagged for review. The EIC also triggers more scrutiny sometimes.

Adding to this excellent info - if you get code 971 followed by 846, that's the best case scenario. Means they're sending you a notice but also issuing the refund. I had the same thing happen last year and my refund came 10 days after the 570 appeared.

I've been stuck in 570 hell for 3 months now 😭 Called IRS multiple times and they just say "its under review" and won't tell me why or when itll be done

I went through this too! I was freaked out but I ended up getting my refund after about 3 weeks. The date on the transcript doesn't mean much - I got mine way before the date listed.

this is 100% accurate. last year mine sat with 570 for 5 weeks before finally getting 846. The date is just administrative, not when they'll actually process it.

Stop trying to decipher these codes yourself - you're just stressing yourself out. I was literally doing the same thing last month, trying to understand all these random numbers and dates. I found this tool called taxr.ai that actually explains everything on your transcript in plain English. It told me exactly why my refund was delayed and when I could expect it. Saved me so much time and headache. It showed me exactly what was happening with my EIC refund and why there was a review. Honestly life changing for tax season. https://taxr.ai

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

It does waaaaay more than just read the transcript. It actually explains what each code means specifically for YOUR situation, tells you if there are any issues, gives you a timeline, and even predicts when you'll get your refund. I was skeptical at first but it was spot on with everything. Changed my whole tax refund experience!

100% legit. I was in the same boat as OP with a 570 code and freaking out. The tool told me it was just a random review and I'd get my refund in about 17 days - got it in 15. Save yourself the stress.

HOLY CRAP THIS WORKS!!! Sorry for shouting but I just tried it and it told me exactly why my return was held up (something about a discrepancy with my reported income) and that I should expect resolution by next Friday. This is EXACTLY the info I've been trying to get from the IRS for weeks!!! Thank you thank you thank you 🙏🙏🙏

After weeks of trying to get answers about my delayed refund (with a similar 570 code), I finally got through to an actual IRS agent using Claimyr.com. Couldn't believe it worked after all the busy signals and disconnects trying to call myself. The agent explained exactly what was causing my delay and released my refund on the spot. Best decision ever to use this service - my refund hit my account 3 days later. Totally worth it to skip the 3+ hour hold times and actually get someone who could help.

It's this service that navigates the IRS phone system for you and calls you back when they get an agent on the line. Saved me literally hours of my life on hold. My phone anxiety is bad so this was a lifesaver.

lol I get why you'd think that. I was skeptical too but when you've been waiting on thousands of dollars you get desperate. All I know is I tried calling myself for two weeks straight and got nowhere, then tried this and had answers same day.

I can confirm this works. I was in refund limbo for SIX WEEKS before I tried it. Agent said my return got flagged for review but there was nothing actually wrong with it. They released it while I was on the phone.

The 570 date doesnt mean anything. Its just a placeholder. I had that code for over a month before it changed to 846 (refund issued). the system is broken and the IRS is severely understaffed, so reviews take forever. Best advice is to just try to forget about it and be pleasantly surprised when it finally shows up. Checking everyday will drive u insane.

Dude I'm in the exact same situation! Filed Feb 2, accepted same day, and now I have a code 570 with April processing date too. So frustrating. I'm supposed to be buying a house and my lender needs this refund to close. Did you claim any covid credits or anything unusual? Heard those are getting extra scrutiny this year.

0 coins

-

Ellie Perry

No covid credits, just a pretty standard return with W2 income and earned income credit. I'm hoping its just random selection and not an actual problem. Keep me posted if yours changes!

Will do! I'll update here if I see any movement. From what I'm reading, EIC returns get extra verification automatically. Fingers crossed for both of us 🤞

I don't understand why ppl worry so much about this. it will get there when it gets there lol. i haven't even filed mine yet and probably won't til late March. Just relax and let the system work. the IRS has millions of returns to process.

easy to say when u don't need the money right away. some of us rely on our tax refunds for important things.

0 coins

-

Issac Nightingale

Or maybe don't rely on a tax refund? It's your own money that you overpaid all year. Adjust your withholding and you wouldn't have this problem.

Not everyone can do that. For many low income folks with kids, most of the refund is from EIC and Child Tax Credit which you can't get during the year.

Fair point, I wasn't thinking about credits. My bad.

This is such a tone deaf response. People have legitimate reasons to need their refunds, especially when it's a significant amount like OP's. Not everyone is in the same boat as you.

does anyone know if amending your return makes the delay worse? i realized i forgot a 1099 but im afraid to amend if im already in review

0 coins

-

Tyler Murphy

DON'T AMEND YET! If you're already under review with code 570, wait until your current return finishes processing. Amending now will make everything take 10x longer.

The April date is a joke. I had a 570 code last year with a date in May, but my account updated with a 571 (hold released) and 846 (refund issued) in early March. The dates they put on those codes are basically meaningless - they're administrative deadline dates, not action dates. Keep checking your transcript weekly.

If you're really counting on this money you should call them. Yes the wait times are horrible but sometimes just getting a human to look at your account can shake things loose. Call early in the morning right when they open for shortest wait time.

Have you tried calling the IRS lately? It's almost impossible to get through. I called 23 times last week and either got a "due to high call volume" message or waited on hold for 2 hours before getting disconnected.

There's a trick - call the tax advocate service number instead. Much easier to get through and they can help with refund delays.

Tax advocates won't help unless it's been 21+ days for e-filed returns, or you're experiencing a hardship like eviction or utility shutoff.

I'm a tax preparer and I can tell you that code 570 is VERY common this year. The IRS is doing extra verification on returns with refundable credits like EIC. About 70% of my clients with EIC have gotten this hold. Most are resolving within 3-4 weeks. Don't panic!

0 coins

-

Ellie Perry

That's really reassuring to hear! Do most of them resolve on their own without the taxpayer having to do anything?

0 coins

-

19d

Juan Moreno

Yes, most resolve automatically. Only about 1 in 10 of my clients with this code end up needing to respond to a letter or provide additional documentation. Just keep an eye on your mail.

your refund is huge so its definitely getting manually reviewed. anything over $5k tends to get extra scrutiny especially with EIC. my sister got the 570 code and it took about 3 weeks before it changed to 846 and she got her money.

This is why I always tell people to adjust their withholding so they break even at tax time. Getting a big refund just means you gave the government an interest-free loan all year. And then you have to deal with this kind of stress waiting for your own money back.

0 coins

-

Elin Robinson

Not everyone has the luxury of perfect tax planning. Low income families rely on EIC and Child Tax Credit which come as refunds even if you have zero withholding.

0 coins

-

Fair point, but OP mentioned a lot of withholding so they could probably benefit from adjusting their W-4.

the IRS is sooooo broken. they take our money instantly but when its time to give it back suddenly everything needs to be "reviewed" for months. if we were late paying them they'd charge penalties and interest but they can hold our refunds forever with no consequences 🙄

So freaking true! The double standard is infuriating. And try getting someone on the phone to explain the delay... impossible.

0 coins

Actually they do pay interest on delayed refunds after 45 days from the filing deadline (or when you filed if you filed after the deadline). But yeah the system is totally broken.

I couldn't make sense of my transcript either after weeks of trying. Finally tried taxr.ai and it explained everything - had a similar hold code but also showed me exactly what was causing the delay and predicted when I'd get my refund (was accurate to within 2 days). Best money I ever spent after weeks of stress and uncertainty. It even showed me credits I didn't know I qualified for that I can claim next year!

0 coins

-

Joy Olmedo

how accurate was it? did it actually explain why your return was held up?

0 coins

-

Crazy accurate! It showed me that one of my W-2s had a mismatch (my employer reported slightly different numbers than what I entered). The tool even showed me the exact difference ($121.84) that was causing the review. I never would have figured that out on my own.
