IRS Code 570 Holding Up My $9,350 Refund (EIC $5,769) With Feb 24 Processing Date - Will I Still Get It By April 15?

Looking at my transcript and seeing some codes I've never had before. Got a 570 code dated 02-24-2025 saying "Additional account action pending." I'm really confused about what this means for my refund. Here's what my transcript shows: ADJUSTED GROSS INCOME: 14,680.00 TAXABLE INCOME: 0.00 TAX PER RETURN: 0.00 SE TAXABLE INCOME TAXPAYER: 0.00 SE TAXABLE INCOME SPOUSE: 0.00 TOTAL SELF EMPLOYMENT TAX: 0.00 RETURN DUE DATE OR RETURN RECEIVED DATE (WHICHEVER IS LATER) Apr. 15, 2025 PROCESSING DATE Feb. 24, 2025 TRANSACTIONS CODE EXPLANATION OF TRANSACTION CYCLE DATE AMOUNT 150 Tax return filed 20250605 02-24-2025 10221-421-72354-5 806 W-2 or 1099 withholding 04-15-2025 -$1,754.00 766 Credit to your account 04-15-2025 -$1,827.00 768 Earned income credit 04-15-2025 -$5,769.00 570 Additional account action pending 02-24-2025 This Product Contains Sensitive Taxpayer Data I'm supposed to get my EIC of $5,769.00 according to code 768 dated 4-15-25, along with my withholding of $1,754.00 from code 806, and another credit of $1,827.00 from code 766. All these credits should be coming on April 15, but now I see this 570 code with the same date as my processing date (Feb 24). I have absolutely no self-employment income showing for either me or my spouse (both show $0.00 for SE taxable income). My AGI is exactly $14,680.00 with $0.00 taxable income. Anyone know what this 570 code means or how long the delay might be? Is this a normal part of processing, or is something wrong with my return? Really concerned about this hold up since I'm counting on these credits totaling over $9,000 to pay some urgent bills. Will I still get my refund by April 15 as indicated, or does this mean there's going to be a significant delay?

The transcript shows several key details about your tax situation. Your AGI of $14,680 with no taxable income suggests you're likely in a low-income bracket qualifying for various credits. The important codes on your transcript include: - Code 150 (dated 2-24-25): Confirms your return was received and entered into the IRS system - Code 806: Shows withholding credits of $1,XXX from W-2/1099 forms - Code 766: Indicates an additional credit of $1,XXX - Code 768: Shows you qualified for Earned Income Credit of $5,XXX - Code 570 (dated 2-24-25): Indicates a temporary freeze while the IRS reviews something on your return The 570 freeze was placed the same day your return was processed, which is typical. With zero self-employment income for both you and spouse, and qualifying income for EIC, this may just be a routine review of your credits. These freezes typically resolve within 2-4 weeks. Watch for code 571 to appear, which would indicate the freeze has been lifted and processing can continue.

thx for explaining! any idea why they might be reviewing it? my return is pretty basic

Could be random verification of EIC eligibility since you're claiming it. Pretty common actually.

How exactly does this work? Does it just read the transcript or what?

It analyzes everything - codes, dates, amounts - and gives you super specific info about whats causing delays and when to expect updates. Way better than guessing!

I've been through this exact situation! Code 570 with EIC claims is super common - the IRS automatically flags returns with large credits for verification. With your $5,769 EIC and total refund over $9k, they just want to make sure everything checks out. The good news is your transcript shows all the right codes (806, 766, 768) with April 15 dates, which means the system already calculated and approved your credits. The 570 is just a temporary hold while they do their review. Based on your cycle code (20250605), you should see movement within the next 1-2 weeks. Look for code 571 to appear - that's when the hold gets released. Then you'll likely see code 846 with your actual refund date shortly after. Don't stress too much about the April 15 dates on those credit codes - those are just placeholder dates. Once the 570 clears, you'll get updated dates that are much sooner. Most people in your situation get their refund within 21-30 days total from filing.
