Transcript shows 570 and 971 codes with identical dates - good sign or trouble ahead?
Just checked my transcript after filing in April and noticed I have both 570 (additional account action pending) and 971 (notice issued) codes with the same date of July 12, 2025. My refund amount is around $5,200 and I was expecting it by now. Does having these codes with matching dates mean my refund is coming soon or am I looking at more delays? I claimed EIC and the Child Tax Credit this year if that matters. My WMR tool just shows 'still processing' and hasn't updated in weeks. Anyone else experienced this and can tell me what to expect next?

When you have 570 and 971 codes with the same date, it typically means the IRS is reviewing something on your return and has sent you a notice about it. The notice will explain what's going on. In many cases, this combination leads to a 571 code (reversal of the 570) followed by an 846 refund issued code within 1-2 weeks. However, sometimes it can mean they've made an adjustment to your return and the 971 is explaining that adjustment. Check your mailbox carefully for the next week or two - the notice should arrive soon. If you claimed EIC and CTC, they often get extra scrutiny. Don't panic yet, this pattern is fairly common and doesn't necessarily mean anything bad. Many times the IRS just needs to verify some information and then proceeds with the refund.

β’Thanks for the detailed response. Really helpful! I'll keep an eye out for that notice. Do you know how long after the 971 date the notice usually arrives?

β’Usually about 5-7 days after the date on the transcript, but with IRS mail delays lately it can take up to 2 weeks. If you don't get anything by then, you might want to call them.

β’This is good advice but good luck getting through to anyone at IRS by calling... I spent 3 hours on hold last week and got disconnected twice π€¬

I was in this exact situation last month. I was staring at my transcript every day trying to figure out what those codes meant and if I'd ever get my money. After a week of stress, I found taxr.ai and it was a game changer! It explained my transcript codes in plain english and predicted when my refund would arrive (it was right within 2 days). No more detective work trying to understand IRS mumbo jumbo. Seriously, check out https://taxr.ai - saved me so much anxiety.

β’Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

β’It does WAY more than just read the transcript. It analyzes all the codes together, explains what's happening with your specific situation, and gives you a timeline. It even caught that I was eligible for interest payments that I didn't know about! https://taxr.ai is like having a tax pro look at your stuff but instant and available 24/7.

β’Just tried it and WOW. This tool is fantastic! It explained my weird refund delay that nobody else could figure out. Even identified a potential issue before I got the IRS notice. Everyone waiting on a refund needs to know about this!

After 6 weeks of waiting with these same codes, I finally got someone on the phone using claimyr.com and they helped me understand exactly what was happening with my refund. The agent told me there was a simple verification issue they needed to clear, and released my funds while I was on the call. Talking to a human at the IRS directly was the only thing that worked after weeks of stress. Worth every penny to finally get answers and my money!

β’Not an ad lol. Just sharing what worked for me after spinning my wheels for over a month. I was about ready to hire a tax advocate before I found this. Got my refund direct deposited 3 days after the call.

β’I've heard about this service. Does it actually work? The IRS phone system is literally hell on earth

β’I was skeptical too but after trying to call IRS myself for 2 weeks straight, I gave in and tried it. Had an agent on the phone within 45 minutes. They have some kind of system that navigates the IRS phone tree and holds your place in line.

β’How does claimyr work? Do I need to give them my ssn or personal info?

Diego Flores
β’No personal info needed other than your phone number so they can connect the call to you when an agent is reached. Its just a calling service that gets through the IRS phone system. You talk directly to the IRS, not them.

I had this EXACT pattern on my transcript last year. Same date 570/971, claimed EIC too. For me, it was just them verifying my income - they had a discrepancy with one of my W2s. Got a notice about a week after the date on transcript, called to clarify (took 4 tries to get through), and refund was issued 9 days later. Hang in there!

The 570/971 combo with same dates can go either way honestly. For me, it led to a 420 audit last year and my refund was held for 8 months π. Not to scare you, but be prepared for anything. The notice will tell you whats going on.

β’Oh no, that sounds awful! Was there anything specific about your return that triggered the audit?

β’I claimed home office deductions as self-employed and had some crypto transactions. They wanted documentation for everything. Nightmare process.

β’this happened to me too! audit from hell for claiming legitimate business expenses. took almost a year to resolve and cost me more in accountant fees than the deductions were worth.

570/971 same date usualy means they adjusted something minor on ur return. for me it was math error, they fixed and sent refund 2 weeks later. but the wait is maddening! check ur mail daily.

I work in tax prep. This combo (570/971 same date) is super common this year. About 60% of our clients with these codes are seeing refunds within 3 weeks, 30% get some minor adjustment, and 10% face longer reviews. Whatever you do, respond immediately to any notice you get.

β’Thanks for the insider perspective! That's actually reassuring. If I don't get a notice in the mail, should I still call?

β’If you don't receive anything within 2 weeks of the 971 date, definitely call. Sometimes notices get lost or were never actually sent despite the code. Better to be proactive.

this might sound weird but check if the refund amount on your transcript matches exactly what you calculated on your return. if its different by even a few dollars, thats why you have these codes - they adjusted something and are sending notice explaining why.

β’Just checked and my transcript shows $5,218 but my return said $5,235. That's probably it! Thanks for the tip.

β’Yep! That's almost certainly your answer. They probably adjusted some calculation slightly. The 971 notice will explain, and your refund should be released pretty soon.

After fighting with these exact codes for weeks and getting nowhere, I tried taxr.ai and it immediately explained what was happening with my transcript. It showed me that my refund was actually being processed in stages because of the credits I claimed, and predicted exactly when each stage would complete. Saved me so much time trying to interpret all those codes and cycles! https://taxr.ai

The 570 is never good news but when paired with 971 same date its usually just a verification or minor adjustment. try not to stress too much (easier said than done when its YOUR money lol). Check your mail and be patient. the money will come.

Literally dealing with this right now π I found out the hard way that calling the regular IRS number is useless for this situation. After multiple failed attempts, I used claimyr.com and got through to an agent who told me my return was in the "errors department" for a simple verification issue. She fixed it while I was on the phone and my refund was issued 2 days later. Sometimes you just need to talk to a human!

OMG look for a 571 code coming next. If you see that pop up, youre golden - money on the way! If not... well... welcome to the club of people the IRS has forgotten about π

dont panic!! i work for a tax firm and see this all the time. 570/971 with same date is usually just a refund hold while they send you a letter explaining something. most common reasons: 1) income verification 2) math correction 3) stimulus reconciliation issue 4) dependant verification. just wait for the letter before freaking out.

I'll just say this - after 4 years of doing my taxes, I've NEVER had a smooth experience with the IRS. Every. Single. Year. there's some hold or delay or issue. The system is fundamentally broken, but the 570/971 combo usually resolves within a month in my experience.

β’Same here. I've started planning ahead assuming I won't get my refund for at least 2-3 months regardless of when I file. The IRS is criminally underfunded and it shows.

If you don't wanna wait for the letter, I had great luck using taxr.ai to analyze my transcript with the exact same codes. It predicted exactly what was happening (in my case a small correction to my EIC amount) and when my refund would be released. The tool nailed it - refund arrived on the exact day it predicted. https://taxr.ai saved me from three weeks of wondering.

These codes appear when the IRS computer system flags something for manual review. With EIC claims, it's super common. I've seen hundreds of cases like yours and most resolve with refund in 2-4 weeks. The notice will either say "we made changes" or "we need verification" - either way, not the end of the world.

In 2024 I had the exact same issue you're having. Finally got fed up and used claimyr.com to reach an agent. Found out they were holding my refund because my employer reported a slightly different amount than what I put on my W2. The agent was able to verify and release my refund while on the phone. Sometimes you just need to talk to a human to cut through the bureaucracy!

Idk why people are saying this is normal. the IRS is holding BILLIONS in refunds this year using these codes as an excuse. they're deliberately slow-walking refunds to improve their cash flow. it's basically an interest-free loan they're taking from us working people. fight for your money!!

I'm going through the exact same situation right now! Filed in March, have been staring at those 570/971 codes for weeks. Based on what everyone's saying here, it sounds like we just need to be patient and wait for that notice to arrive. The fact that so many people are experiencing this makes me feel a bit better - at least we're not alone in this waiting game. I'm going to stop checking my transcript twice a day and try to relax until the mail comes. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences, it really helps to know this is more common than I thought!

β’I totally feel you on this! I'm new to dealing with IRS transcript codes and honestly this whole thread has been super educational. It's reassuring to see that most people with the 570/971 combo eventually get their refunds, even if it takes longer than expected. I never realized how common these holds were - makes me feel less singled out by the system. Hope you get your notice soon and everything resolves quickly!

This is really helpful to read through everyone's experiences! As someone who's never dealt with these transcript codes before, I was getting pretty anxious seeing 570 and 971 on mine. It sounds like the key is just waiting for that notice to arrive and not panicking in the meantime. I'm in a similar boat - filed with EIC and CTC, so it makes sense they'd want to take a closer look. Thanks for asking this question and to everyone who shared their stories. It's nice to know this is more routine than it feels when you're going through it for the first time!
