Stuck with Code 570 for almost a month - no notices, no letters, processing date 3/28/24

I efiled my tax return in early January and it was accepted right away. I checked WMR after 3 weeks and it still showed processing. So I checked my transcript and saw a 570 code (additional account action pending) with a processing date of 3/28/24. It's been almost a month now with this code sitting there. No movement whatsoever. Haven't received any notices or letters from the IRS explaining what's going on. WMR still just says processing. Expecting around $7,200 refund with EIC and CTC. Anyone else dealing with this? Any idea how long I'll be stuck in this limbo?

The 570 code means the IRS has stopped processing your refund temporarily. This could be for many reasons - identity verification, income verification, or further review of credits claimed (especially with EIC and CTC). A few things to consider: - The processing date isn't necessarily when your refund will be issued, it's an internal administrative date - Sometimes notices take 2-3 weeks to arrive after a code appears - Check if you have a 971 code also appearing (indicates notice issued) - Many people see the 570 followed by a 571 (resolved) and then an 846 (refund issued) I'd recommend checking your transcript again - sometimes they update on Friday mornings. If nothing changes by 4/1, you might want to call the IRS directly to inquire.

Thank you for the detailed response. I don't see any 971 code yet. Just the 570. Should I be worried that there's no accompanying 971?

0 coins

Not necessarily. Sometimes the 971 shows up a bit later. The notices system and the processing system don't always sync perfectly. Keep checking weekly.

0 coins

If there's no 971, it might actually be a good sign! Could mean they're just verifying something internally without needing to contact you.

Having been through exactly this situation, I HIGHLY recommend using taxr.ai to decode exactly what's happening with your transcript. I was staring at those same codes for weeks trying to figure out what was going on, and the tool broke everything down and explained what the IRS was doing with my return. It's insanely good! I use it every week to check for updates now since it explains everything in plain English. Just go to https://taxr.ai and upload your transcript - you'll get actual answers instead of playing detective with vague IRS codes.

0 coins

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

0 coins

It analyzes all the codes and dates on your transcript and gives you a clear explanation of what each one means specifically for YOUR situation. It showed me exactly why my refund was delayed and when I could expect it. TOTAL gamechanger compared to just googling random codes 👍

HOLY CRAP I just tried this and you weren't kidding!! Been stuck in limbo for weeks and this actually explained everything! My 570 was because of an income verification issue. Wish I'd known about this sooner instead of stressing for weeks!

0 coins

does it cost anything? sounds too good to be true lol

0 coins

Yeah, there is a fee but it's nothing compared to the peace of mind. After weeks of anxiety about where my $5k refund was, I would've paid 10x what they charge just to finally understand what was happening.

0 coins

I was in the exact same boat last month - code 570 with no notices. Tried calling the IRS for two weeks straight but couldn't get through. Finally found this service called Claimyr that got me connected to an IRS agent within 45 minutes (claimyr.com). The agent explained that they needed to verify my income but there was a backlog with notices. Got everything resolved on that call and my refund was approved three days later. Talking to a real person at the IRS was the only thing that worked after weeks of frustration.

0 coins

is this for real? i've been trying to call for days and can never get through

0 coins

100% real. I was skeptical too but was desperate after wasting hours redialing. The service calls the IRS for you and when they get through, they connect you. Best money I ever spent considering it got my $6k refund released.

0 coins

Sounds like a scam tbh. The IRS can't be reached that easily.

0 coins

Not a scam at all. They don't talk to the IRS for you - they just do the calling/waiting and then connect you directly with the IRS. You're the one talking to the agent. It's basically just saving you from the redial hell.

0 coins

Just tried it and it actually worked! Got through to an agent in about an hour (which is a miracle compared to my previous attempts). Definitely worth it!

Yup, in the same exact situation. Been waiting since early February with a 570 code, processing date of 3/15. Ugh why is this happening to so many of us? The IRS is a complete mess this year. I'm owed almost $9,000 and they're just sitting on it 😡

0 coins

So my timeline was: 570 code appeared 2/12 Nothing for 3 weeks 971 code appeared 3/5 Letter arrived 3/10 (asking for identity verification) Verified online same day 571 code appeared 3/15 846 code (refund) appeared 3/22 Refund deposited 3/25 Stay patient, the system is just incredibly slow this year.

0 coins

This gives me some hope, thanks for sharing your timeline. Did you have to do anything special to get things moving?

0 coins

Nothing special - just waited and kept checking my transcript. The verification process was pretty straightforward once I got the letter. The worst part was just the waiting with zero information.

0 coins

The IRS is so behind this year its not even funny. I had a 570 for SIX WEEKS before anything happend. Finally got a notice that they adjusted my refund amount (by $23 lol) and then got my money a week later. The worst part is the silence… like just tell us whats going on???

0 coins

Check your 2022 transcript!!! Sometimes a 570 can be because of an issue with a previous year's return. That's what happened to me - had an unresolved issue from 2022 that was holding up my 2023 refund.

0 coins

Hmm that's interesting, I'll check! Didn't think to look at previous years.

0 coins

This is good advice, happened to me too. Had a small balance due from 2022 that I didn't know about.

0 coins

Try calling the IRS Taxpayer Advocate Service instead of the main number. Got through in about 20 minutes and they were able to tell me exactly why my return had a 570 hold (math error on my part). Worth a shot!

0 coins

The Taxpayer Advocate won't take your case unless you're experiencing a hardship tho. They told me they couldn't help with just a delayed refund.

0 coins

Depends who you talk to honestly. I just explained I was facing financial difficulties and needed the refund. The first person said no but I called back and the second person helped.

0 coins

taxr.ai literally saved my sanity during this process. I had codes all over my transcript that made zero sense to me, spent days searching forums trying to piece together what was happening. The tool explained EVERYTHING - turns out I had an income verification issue that I was able to resolve by faxing in some documents. Got my refund 2 weeks later! Highly recommend it https://taxr.ai

0 coins

OK this is the second mention of this tool - does it actually work? Is it an official IRS thing?

0 coins

Not official IRS but it's built specifically to decode IRS transcripts. It saved me weeks of confusion. My situation was exactly like OP's - 570 code with no explanation. The tool pinpointed the exact issue.

0 coins

Had to call the IRS five times before getting someone who could actually help with my 570 code. Finally got through using claimyr.com and the agent told me they needed additional documentation which they never bothered to send a letter about! 🤬 Once I faxed what they needed, refund came within 10 days.

0 coins

Lol welcome to IRS purgatory. Been here since January. No notices, just a 570 code chillin on my transcript. Lost hope at this point tbh.

0 coins

Same boat. Feels like they just threw our returns into a black hole somewhere 💀

0 coins

fr fr... watching everyone else get their refunds while we just sit here with no answers

0 coins

CALL THEM!!!!! Don't wait for a notice that might never come. I waited 5 weeks with a 570 code before calling. Turns out they needed to verify my identity but the notice system had a glitch and never sent my letter. Would have been waiting forever if I hadn't called.

0 coins

What number did you use to get through? I've tried calling but always get the "high call volume" message.

0 coins

Honestly after trying for days I used that Claimyr service (claimyr.com). They got me through to an agent in about 40 mins. Best decision I made - got my issue resolved in one call.

0 coins

If you claimed EITC or ACTC, they're subject to extra review this year. IRS announced they're specifically targeting those credits for additional verification. The 570 could just be part of that process.

0 coins

FYI - Processing dates that fall on weekend or holiday get pushed to the next business day. So your 3/28 date might actually mean 4/1 in reality. IRS systems are weird like that.

0 coins

Good point, thanks! I didn't realize that.

0 coins

Check your account transcripts (NOT just return transcripts) - sometimes there are clues there about what's happening. Look for TC 971 with specific action codes or any unusual entries.

0 coins

The WMR tool is useless tbh. I've had returns where WMR showed "still processing" even AFTER my refund was deposited. The transcript is the only accurate source of info.

0 coins

Truer words never spoken. WMR is like checking yesterday's weather forecast 🤣

0 coins

I swear WMR is just a pacifier to make us think they're doing something with our returns lol

0 coins

if u have kids and claimed EIC u might be part of the random audit pool. My friend got selected and her return was held with 570 code for 8 weeks before she even got an audit letter. IRS is being extra cautious this year with credits.

0 coins

Ok this is EXACTLY what I went through. I was stuck with a 570 for like 3 weeks with no explanation. I used taxr.ai and found out it was because my W2 hadn't been processed by the IRS yet (my employer filed late). Once I knew that I just had to wait it out, and sure enough a week later got a 571 code and then my refund. Highly recommend it for peace of mind if nothing else.

0 coins

how much does that service cost? is it worth it?

0 coins

There is a fee but considering I was stressing daily about my $8k refund, it was 100% worth it to actually understand what was happening instead of just guessing.

I'm in a very similar situation - filed in mid-January, got the 570 code about 3 weeks ago with a processing date of 4/5/24. Also claiming EIC and CTC with about a $6,800 expected refund. The waiting is absolutely brutal, especially with no communication from the IRS about what's actually happening. From reading everyone's experiences here, it seems like this is unfortunately pretty common this year. Some people are waiting 6-8 weeks before seeing any movement. The fact that you haven't gotten a 971 code yet might actually be a good sign - could mean it's just an internal review rather than needing additional documentation from you. I've been checking my transcript every Friday morning (heard that's when they typically update) but nothing yet. Planning to wait until my processing date passes before trying to call, since it sounds like that's when they can actually provide more specific information about the delay. Hang in there - sounds like most people do eventually get their refunds, it's just taking way longer than usual this year.

I'm dealing with almost the exact same situation! Filed in late January, got accepted immediately, then saw the 570 code appear about 3 weeks later with a processing date of 4/2/24. Also expecting a large refund with EIC and CTC (around $8,400). It's incredibly frustrating not knowing what's happening, especially when there's no communication from the IRS. I've been checking my transcript weekly but still just that lonely 570 code sitting there with no movement. Reading through everyone's experiences here is actually somewhat comforting - seems like we're not alone in this. The timeline that @Chloe Harris shared gives me some hope that things will eventually move, even if it takes longer than expected. I'm going to wait until after my processing date passes before trying to call, since it sounds like they can't really tell you much until then anyway. The waiting game is brutal but at least we know others are going through the same thing!

I'm in almost the exact same boat! Filed early February, 570 code appeared about 2 weeks ago with a processing date of 4/8/24. Also claiming EIC and CTC with around a $7,800 expected refund. It's oddly reassuring to know so many of us are dealing with this same issue - makes me feel less like there's something specifically wrong with my return. The lack of communication from the IRS is definitely the worst part. At least if they sent a notice saying "we're reviewing your credits" or something, we'd have some idea what's happening. But this complete silence while they hold onto thousands of dollars is incredibly stressful. I've been following the advice to check transcripts on Friday mornings, but like you, still just that 570 code mocking me every week. Planning to wait until after my processing date before calling, though from what others have shared, it sounds like the calling services like Claimyr might be worth it if the wait gets too unbearable. Hang in there - sounds like most people do eventually get resolution, it's just taking way longer than normal this year!

I'm going through the exact same nightmare! Filed in early February and have been sitting with a 570 code for about 3 weeks now, processing date of 4/10/24. Expecting around $6,900 with EIC and CTC. What's driving me crazy is the complete lack of transparency from the IRS. Like, just tell us what you're looking at! Are you verifying income? Identity? Credits? Something else entirely? The silence is honestly worse than knowing there's an actual problem. I've been religiously checking my transcript every Friday morning hoping to see literally ANY change - a 971, a 571, anything - but nope, just that same 570 code taunting me. It's somewhat comforting (in a misery loves company way) to see so many others dealing with this exact situation. From reading everyone's timelines, it seems like 4-8 weeks is becoming the new normal for these holds, which is absolutely insane. I'm going to try to hold out until after my processing date passes before attempting the IRS phone roulette, but that Claimyr service people mentioned is looking more tempting each day. Stay strong - we'll get through this bureaucratic purgatory eventually! 🤞

This whole situation is absolutely maddening! I'm also stuck in the same boat - filed in late January and have been staring at a 570 code for almost a month now. Processing date of 3/31/24 and expecting about $5,200 with EIC. What really gets me is how the IRS can just hold onto our money with zero explanation. Like you said, even a generic "we're reviewing your credits" notice would be better than this complete radio silence. I've been checking my transcript obsessively every few days hoping for ANY movement but it's the same story - just that 570 code sitting there. Reading through everyone's experiences here has been both comforting and terrifying. Comforting to know we're not alone, but terrifying to see people waiting 6-8 weeks! I really hope the IRS gets their act together soon because this level of delay without communication is just unacceptable. Crossing my fingers we all see some movement soon. This waiting game is brutal! 😤
