IRS Transcript Updated 3/15: Code 570 "Account Action Pending" - No 846 Refund Code Yet

I e-filed as Head of Household on Feb 25th. I checked WMR and it shows my return was accepted. Been checking my transcript regularly and noticed it updated on March 15th (I had previously verified my identity on March 10th). My transcript now shows a bunch of codes but no refund date yet. I can see that my FORM NUMBER is 1040 for TAX PERIOD Dec. 31, 2024. My ACCOUNT BALANCE shows -1 and there's no ACCRUED INTEREST or ACCRUED PENALTY (both showing 0.00) AS OF Mar. 17, 2025. Looking at my transcript information, it shows: FILING STATUS: Head of Household EXEMPTIONS: 04 ADJUSTED GROSS INCOME: [blank] TAXABLE INCOME: [blank] TAX PER RETURN: 0.0 My RETURN DUE DATE OR RETURN RECEIVED DATE is listed as Apr. 15, 2025, with a PROCESSING DATE of Mar. 17, 2025. The TRANSACTIONS section shows these codes: - CODE 150: Tax return filed, CYCLE 20250905, DATE 03-17-2025, AMOUNT $0.00 - CODE 806: W-2 or 1099 withholding, DATE 04-15-2025 - CODE 766: Credit to your account, DATE 04-15-2025 - CODE 971: Notice issued, DATE 03-17-2025 - CODE 570: Additional account action pending, DATE 03-17-2025, AMOUNT $0.00 I see codes 150, 806, 766, 971, and 570. The 570 says "Additional account action pending" with date of March 17, 2025. My account balance shows -1 which I'm guessing is my refund amount? It's weird that it's just -1 though. There's also a reference number that looks like 80221-429-23798-5 listed next to my tax return filed code. Anyone know what these codes mean and when I might get my 846 code for direct deposit? Starting to get anxious since I really need this money. Does the "Notice issued" mean they're sending me something in the mail? And what does "Additional account action pending" actually mean - is there a problem with my return?

Selena Bautista

Looking at your transcript, here's what's happening: - Code 150: This confirms your tax return was processed on 3/17/2025 - Code 806: This shows your withholding credits from W-2/1099 - Code 766: This is a credit to your account (likely refundable credits) - Code 971: Indicates a notice was issued on 3/17/2025 - Code 570: Shows there's a hold on your account pending additional action The 570 code is the key here - it means the IRS needs to review something before releasing your refund. Usually this resolves within 2-4 weeks. The code 971 means they sent you a notice explaining what they're reviewing. Check your mail in the next week - it should explain exactly what they need. Once the review is completed, you should see code 571 (resolving the hold) followed by 846 (refund issued). The -1 balance is a bit unusual as refunds are typically larger, but it does indicate they owe you money.

Thanks for the thorough explanation. I'm still waiting for that notice in the mail. Is there any way to find out what they're reviewing without waiting for the notice?

You can try calling the IRS directly, but good luck getting through. Their phone lines are notoriously backed up. Another option is using Claimyr.com - it's a service that helps you get through to an IRS agent faster. I used it last year when I had a similar issue and actually got someone on the phone.

Does this claimyr thing actually work? I've been trying to reach IRS for like 3 weeks and keep getting disconnected 🤬

Yeah it definitely works! They basically wait on hold for you and then call you when an agent is on the line. Best $$ I ever spent to finally talk to someone who could actually help with my refund situation.

Just tried it and got through to an agent in about 35 minutes! They explained that they're verifying my W-2 information and it should be resolved in about a week. Thank you so much for this tip!

I was in the exact same situation last month. Trying to figure out all these transcript codes was driving me crazy until I found taxr.ai. It's a tool that actually explains your transcript in plain English and tells you what's going on with your refund. Saved me hours of research and anxiety. It showed me exactly why my refund was delayed and gave me a timeline for when to expect it. The tool just reads your transcript and translates all the IRS jargon - way better than guessing or posting screenshots online hoping someone knows what's happening. I seriously use it for all my tax questions now. https://taxr.ai

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

It does WAY more than just read it. You upload your transcript and it breaks down every code, tells you what's happening with your refund, gives you personalized advice, and even predicts when you'll get your money. It's like having a tax pro instantly analyze everything. I was absolutely blown away by how helpful it was!

OMG just tried this and it's AMAZING! 🙌 It explained my whole transcript in like 2 minutes and told me exactly why my refund was delayed. I've been stressing for weeks and now I finally understand what's happening! Everyone dealing with IRS bs needs to know about this tool!

After dealing with the same issue, I got tired of waiting and found a way to actually talk to a human at the IRS. I used this calling service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that somehow gets you through to an actual agent. They called me back when they had an agent on the line and I got my situation resolved in one call. The agent explained my 570 code and released my refund right on the spot. My 846 code showed up the next day! Seriously worth every penny to get someone who could actually help instead of waiting weeks longer.

Is this for real? I've been trying to call IRS for 2 weeks and can't get anyone on the phone...

100% real. I was super skeptical too but was desperate. They basically wait on hold for you and then call you when they get an agent. Went from weeks of failed calls to talking to someone who could actually help in one day.

This sounds fishy. How do you know it's not a scam?

I totally get the concern! I researched it a bunch before using it. They don't ask for any personal info beyond your phone number to call you back when they have an IRS agent on the line. It's just a service that navigates the IRS phone tree and waits on hold so you don't have to. The actual conversation is directly between you and the real IRS.

Just wanted to say I used this too after seeing it recommended. Got through to the IRS on my first try after weeks of failed attempts. Got my 846 code 3 days later. Talking to an agent solved in 20 minutes what I'd been stressing about for a month!

The codes ur seeing are normal... sorta. The 570 means there's a hold on ur refund while they check something. Usually it's just a random review. If they don't need anything from u, it should resolve on its own in 2-3 weeks. If they need something, you'll get a letter (that's what the 971 code means - they sent u a notice).

0 coins

-

Tasia Synder

Do you know if there's a way to check what the notice is about without waiting for it to arrive in the mail?

not really unless you call them. But if u try that prepare to waste half ur day on hold lol

I don't understand why your refund amount is only $1? Is that a typo or is that really what you're expecting? That seems incredibly low.

0 coins

-

Tasia Synder

No my refund is actually $4,897. The transcript just shows -1 for some reason. From what I've read that just means they owe me money but doesn't show the exact amount.

Maggie Martinez

Yep, the -1 is just a placeholder sometimes. My transcript showed that too before I got my actual refund of $3,245 last month. It's just IRS being weird as usual lol

From what I'm seeing on your transcript, you're in the review phase. The combo of 570/971 usually means one of three things: 1) random review that will resolve itself, 2) income verification (most common), or 3) they need additional info from you. The 971 means they sent a notice - check your mailbox carefully the next week or so. If it's just a review, you'll likely see an 846 code in 2-4 weeks.

I filed January 30th and STILL don't have my refund. Consider yourself lucky!

Tried calling about 20 times and either get disconnected or told the wait is too long. Gave up after a while, just hoping it comes eventually

dont stress. the 570 code is normal. i got the same code last year and my refund hit my account about 3 weeks later. the IRS is backed up as usual. this isn't somthing to worry about unless you get a cp05 notice in the mail.

0 coins

-

Tasia Synder

What's a cp05 notice? Is that bad?

0 coins

-

21d

Lia Quinn

its just a notice saying they're reviewing your return. not the end of the world but it means a longer wait usually. if you dont get that notice in the mail then ur probably just in a regular review and it'll resolve faster.

Has anyone tried using that taxr.ai tool? I'm seeing it recommended a lot lately but skeptical about using some random site with my tax info.

I used it last week when I was completely confused by my transcript. It's actually really helpful - breaks everything down in plain English and told me exactly what was happening with my return. Way better than trying to Google a bunch of IRS codes.

The system is so broken. I filed in January and FINALLY got my refund yesterday. Had the exact same codes. Never even got the notice they supposedly sent. Just had to wait it out. The IRS is a joke.

How long did it take from when you saw the 570 code until you got your refund?

About 5 weeks total. But I know people who got it in 2-3 weeks. Seems totally random tbh.

570 is frstrating but normal. They're probably just verifying something. Last year they froze mine for 2 months just to verify my W2 info that they already had 🤦‍♂️ But my friend had his release in just a week. Totally depends on your situation. Hang in there!

This happened to me 2 weeks ago. The 570 code is a hold while they verify something. Don't bother waiting for the mail - I called using Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got through to an agent who told me exactly what was happening. They were verifying my income and the agent released it right there on the call. My 846 code appeared three days later. I would have been waiting for weeks otherwise.

How much does claimyr cost though?

I don't remember the exact price, but considering it saved me weeks of waiting for my sizeable refund and hours of frustration trying to call myself, it was definitely worth it. The peace of mind alone of knowing exactly what was happening instead of guessing was priceless.

Those IRS monkeys are probably throwing darts at a board to decide which returns to process first 🙄 I've been waiting since January with the same codes. Complete garbage system.

Dude, you'll be fine. Just wait - the 570 releases automatically. I know everyone says to call, but the agents usually say the same thing: it's under review, just wait. It'll update itself. Mine took exactly 14 days from 570 to 846 code. Hang tight.

Butch Sledgehammer

FYI - The -1 is just a system flag that indicates your account has a credit balance (meaning they owe you money). It's not your actual refund amount.

Tasia Synder

That makes sense! Thanks for clarifying. I was really confused by that.

I actually work for a tax firm and see this all the time. The 570 code with a 971 notice is standard procedure for a review. If they don't need additional info from you, it usually resolves in 2-3 weeks and then you'll see the 846 refund issued code. If you do get a notice requesting information, respond ASAP to avoid further delays.

0 coins

-

Leslie Parker

The 570 code means they hate you and your refund is never coming. jk lol 😂 But for real it's just a normal hold while they review something. Usually clears up in a few weeks if you don't need to provide anything.

I used to spend hours trying to decipher these IRS codes. Then I found this tool called taxr.ai and it literally explained everything - showed me what each code meant, why my refund was delayed, and when I'd likely get it. Saved me sooo much stress. Highly recommend checking it out if you're as confused as I was!

I'm always wary of these "tools" - how do you know it's accurate?

0 coins

Sergio Neal

Fair question! It actually explains the sources for all its information - mostly direct from IRS publications and tax code. And everything it predicted about my refund timeline was spot on. It's basically just consolidating all the information that exists but is spread across dozens of IRS pages and forums into one clear explanation.

Ok you convinced me to try it. Actually really impressed - it broke down my transcript in a way that finally made sense and explained exactly why I'm still waiting for my refund. Thanks for the recommendation!

I had the EXACT same situation - filed HoH in February, 570 code in March. I waited about 3 weeks and suddenly saw the 846 code without ever getting a notice or having to call. Sometimes they just randomly select returns for review and it resolves on its own. Be patient!

0 coins

-

Tasia Synder

That's reassuring! Did your transcript update weekly or did the 846 code just appear randomly?

Mine updated every Friday morning, but I've heard others say theirs updated mid-week sometimes. It's not super consistent.
