Tax transcript shows refund of $5,913 with codes 570/971 - Is 04-15 my DDD for EIC and Child Tax Credit?
Filed my taxes back in late February and just checking my transcript to see whats going on. Im trying to figure out my refund date from these codes. When I look at my transcript, here's what I see: ANY MINUS SIGN SHOWN BELOW SIGNIFIES A CREDIT AMOUNT ACCOUNT BALANCE: -$6,913.00 ACCRUED INTEREST: $0.00 AS OF: Mar. 18, 2025 ACCRUED PENALTY: $0.00 AS OF: Mar. 18, 2025 ACCOUNT BALANCE PLUS ACCRUALS (this is not a payoff amount): -$6,913.00 INFORMATION FROM THE RETURN OR AS ADJUSTED ** EXEMPTIONS: 02 FILING STATUS: Head of Household ADJUSTED GROSS INCOME: $22,693.00 TAXABLE INCOME: $0.00 TAX PER RETURN: $0.00 SE TAXABLE INCOME TAXPAYER: $0.00 SE TAXABLE INCOME SPOUSE: $0.00 TOTAL SELF EMPLOYMENT TAX: $0.00 RETURN DUE DATE OR RETURN RECEIVED DATE (WHICHEVER IS LATER): Apr. 15, 2025 PROCESSING DATE: Mar. 10, 2025 TRANSACTIONS CODE EXPLANATION OF TRANSACTION | CYCLE | DATE | AMOUNT 150 Tax return filed | 20250805 | 03-10-2025 | $0.00 76211-434-74202-5 766 Credit to your account | | 04-15-2025 | -$2,800.00 768 Earned income credit | | 04-16-2025 | -$5,113.00 570 Additional account action pending | | 03-10-2025 | $0.00 971 Notice issued | | 03-17-2025 | $0.00 I see a code 150 for my tax return filed, then 766 Credit showing -$2,800 for 04-15-2025, 768 Earned income credit showing -$5,113 for 04-16-2025, a 570 code that says Additional account action pending from 03-10-2025, and a 971 code showing Notice issued 03-17-2025. My account balance shows -$6,913.00. Does the 04-15 and 04-16 dates mean those are my direct deposit dates? What does the 570 code mean? Should I be worried about the additional account action pending? I filed as Head of Household with 2 exemptions if that matters. My AGI was $22,693.00 with no taxable income. I'm really counting on this refund and just want to know when I can expect it.

The 570 code means there's a hold on your refund while the IRS reviews something. Usually comes with the 971 code which means they're sending you a notice explaining what they're looking at. The 04-15 date on your 766/768 codes is just a cycle date, NOT your direct deposit date. You won't have an actual refund date until you see code 846 "Refund issued" on your transcript. The hold needs to be resolved before that happens. Check your mail for the notice they're sending - it should arrive soon after the 03-17 date. Sometimes these holds clear automatically in a week or two, sometimes you need to call or provide additional info. Your refund amount looks correct though ($5,913 total between tax credits and EIC).

•I had the exact same codes last year. The 971 notice was just them telling me they were checking my EIC. Fixed itself after 3 weeks with no action from me.

•not always true... sometimes that 766/768 date DOES become the deposit date once the hold clears. happens a lot with eic claims 🤷♀️

•Good point about the dates sometimes lining up, but don't want to give false hope. The 846 code is the only definitive indicator of a refund being sent.

•should i call them or just wait for the notice?

•I'd wait for the notice first, then call if needed. Might resolve on its own, and you'll have more info from the notice if you do need to call.

Just went through this exact situation. I was so frustrated trying to figure out all these codes and what they meant. I finally tried this tool called taxr.ai that explained everything on my transcript. It read all the codes, told me exactly what was happening and when I'd likely get my refund. Way better than guessing or spending hours on Reddit playing detective. The site is https://taxr.ai and it literally saved me so much stress just knowing what was actually going on.

•Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

•It does way more than just reading the transcript. It analyzes all your codes and gives a complete breakdown of your situation. Tells you what each code means specifically for YOUR case, not just generic explanations. It also gives you a timeline prediction based on your specific situation. After weeks of confusion, I finally understood exactly what was happening with my refund. Seriously life changing for tax anxiety!!!

•EVERYONE NEEDS TO USE THIS TOOL! I was so skeptical at first but it's seriously the most helpful thing I've found during tax season. Saved me from calling the IRS and waiting on hold for hours. 10/10 recommend.

After dealing with a similar issue and getting nowhere with the standard IRS phone line, I managed to talk to a real agent through a service called Claimyr. Got connected with an IRS agent within an hour who explained my 570/971 combo was just a random review of my EIC that would clear in about 2 weeks. Sure enough, it did. Best money I've spent during tax season considering I wasted days trying to get through myself. Check out claimyr.com if you need to actually speak to someone - way better than waiting 3+ hours or getting disconnected.

•how much did that cost? seems sketchy tbh

CosmicCrusader
•It's not sketchy at all - they just use a technology to navigate the IRS phone system for you. When I compare the cost to taking a day off work to sit on hold...yeah, totally worth it. Talking to an actual agent got my issue resolved immediately instead of waiting weeks wondering what was happening.

•Ok tried it and it worked, my bad for doubting. Agent told me my hold was for income verification and will clear next week. Better than the zero info I had before.

I see this all the time. Its a classic 570/971 combo. Usually means they're reviewing your earned income credit claim. Pretty standard for EIC amounts over 4k. No need to panic. The notice will probably just say they're reviewing your return. Things should update in 2-3 weeks unless they actually find an issue (most ppl don't have real issues).

Dont stress too much. I had this exact situation earlier this year. The 570 is a hold, 971 is a notice. For me, they were verifying my dependents. The system automatically cleared after 2 weeks and I got code 846 with my direct deposit date. Your refund amount looks good though! Just gotta wait for them to process whatever they're checking.

•this is why i hate the irs... they just randomly flag returns and make ppl wait longer for their money 😒

•Especially with EIC claims! They make poor ppl jump through hoops to get their money while rich ppl get away with murder on their taxes!

•Yeah they do seem to target lower income ppl more. But at least in my case and most others with EIC, it clears up automatically. Just annoying to wait the extra time.

Just FYI for anyone in this situation - your direct deposit date ONLY appears with code 846 "refund issued". Until you see that code, there is no scheduled deposit. The April 15 date is just a processing cycle date and doesn't mean anything for when you'll actually receive money.

FYI THE IRS PHONE SYSTEM IS TRASH. spent 5 hrs on hold yesterday and got disconnected. Even if u do manage to talk to someone, the first tier agents cant tell u much more than whats on transcripts. Ugh this happens to me every year with EIC. Usually clears in 2-3 weeks. The stupid part is they know my info is correct cuz I file the same way every year.

570 code might be bad news. I had the same code last year and ended up having to verify my identity and provide docs showing proof of my kids. Took 120 days to get my refund. Hope yours is smoother! 🙏

•omg don't scare them! most 570 codes clear up fast. they just do random checks for fraud prevention. only a small percentage turn into actual problems.

•This! I had 570/971 combo last month and it cleared in 9 days with no action from me. Refund hit my account 3 days after that.

I couldn't make sense of my transcript either. Total tax jargon overload. I used taxr.ai and it explained every code, told me exactly what was happening, and predicted when my refund would arrive (it was accurate too!). After weeks of confusion, I finally had clear answers. The site is https://taxr.ai if you want real clarity instead of guesswork.

•It's AI driven but specifically trained on tax documents and IRS procedures. Way more accurate than general AI tools like ChatGPT for this specific purpose. Saved me hours of research and confusion.

Check your Where's My Refund on the IRS site too. Sometimes that updates with info before the transcript shows the 846 code. https://www.irs.gov/refunds

I work in tax preparation. The 570/971 combo usually means they're reviewing something specific on your return. The notice will tell you what they're looking at. Since your EIC amount is over $4k, they're probably just verifying you qualify for it. As long as everything checks out, they'll release the hold without you needing to do anything. If there is an issue, the notice will tell you what documentation they need. Just be patient and keep checking your transcript weekly.

•wow thanks for this detailed info! feels good to know theres a specific reason. ill watch my mail for the notice.

•Question - if they ultimately do need more documentation, what's the standard response time before the refund gets further delayed?
0 coins
Zoe Stavros
•Usually they give you 30 days to respond. If you provide documentation quickly, it can take 2-8 weeks for them to process it depending on their backlog. If you don't respond, they'll adjust your return and potentially reduce or remove credits.

I was pulling my hair out with a similar situation but got thru to an IRS agent using claimyr.com. Explained my situation was urgent (needed $ for medical bills) and the agent pushed my refund through right then. Like magic I had my deposit 2 days later. Talking to someone makes all the difference.

•did they actually expedite it for you because of hardship?? i thought that was just an urban legend lol

GalaxyGlider
•Yes! They can do hardship expedites for medical necessity, eviction risk, or utility shutoffs. Just explain your situation clearly and ask if they can help. Not guaranteed but worth trying.

I'm so tired of playing detective with these transcript codes. Its like the IRS intentionally makes it confusing 🙄 Had the exact same issue last year, btw. Eventually sorted itself out but took like 3 extra weeks.

The combined -5,913 is obviously your full refund amount (1700+4213). The 570 hold is standard protocol for bigger EIC claims. Their system is designed to delay refunds for lower income families while giving instant processing to higher income brackets. Tale as old as time. 🤷♂️

Giovanni Colombo
•This! The system is rigged against working families. Meanwhile rich ppl with fancy accountants get their refunds fast tracked.

•Conspiracy nonsense. They review higher dollar EIC claims because there's massive fraud in that program. Has nothing to do with income levels.

•Ah yes, because the $5k refund is where the real tax fraud happens, not the millionaires with offshore accounts. 🙄

Been there, done that. Check your mail daily for that 971 notice. Mine was a simple identity verification form (4883C). Filled it out, mailed it back, refund arrived 3 weeks later. Don't stress too much!

For future reference, I've been using taxr.ai this tax season to make sense of IRS notices and transcripts. It analyzes everything and explains it in plain English - saved me from spending hours researching codes and stressing about delays. Maybe worth checking out if your transcript changes and you want to understand what's happening. https://taxr.ai

Did you claim any stimulus payments? They often do reviews when people claim recovery rebate credits, especially with EIC. Just wait for the notice before panicking.

This is standard procedure. I've been a tax preparer for 10 years. 570 hold with 971 notice is routine for EIC verification. About 80% resolve automatically within 2-3 weeks. Don't call the IRS yet - wait for the notice first so you know exactly what they're asking for. If it's just a random verification, they'll release the hold without you doing anything.
