Code 507 showing on transcript with no 971 code - does 'we are processing your return' mean good news?
I checked my transcript yesterday and noticed code 507 but no 971. All other codes seem normal. My online status just changed from the PATH Act delay message to 'We are processing your return.' Filed my taxes mid-February with EITC. Been checking WMR almost daily since then with no movement till now. Does this status change mean things are finally moving along? Anyone else with 507 code get their refund after seeing this message? Really need this money for some unexpected bills that came up.

The 507 code on your transcript actually indicates a Freeze Code related to your return being selected for additional review. This is usually related to income verification or something the system flagged. The good news is that the change from PATH Act message to "We are processing your return" generally means your review is progressing or may have been resolved. Typically, you'd see a 971 Notice code when they're sending you correspondence, so the absence of that could mean they're handling the review internally without needing additional information from you. Some things to keep in mind: - Most 507 freezes resolve within 30-60 days - The status change is definitely a positive sign - Many EITC claims get this review as part of enhanced verification - Keep checking WMR for updates Based on patterns I've seen this season, when it switches to "processing your return" after showing a 507, refunds often follow within 1-2 weeks.

•Thanks so much for the detailed info! This makes me feel a bit better. I'll keep checking WMR and hope for that refund soon!

•I had a 507 last year. Took exactly 45 days from when processing started to see a DDD. hang in there!

•Does the 507 code also show up if you claimed recovery rebate credit? My brother had this happen and that seemed to trigger it

•Good question - yes, Recovery Rebate Credit claims can absolutely trigger 507 codes because they go through verification. Anything involving credits tends to get additional scrutiny.

I was in a similar situation with different codes a couple months ago. Getting frustrated trying to figure out what was going on with my transcript. I started using taxr.ai and it completely changed how I understand my transcript situation. It explains exactly what each code means for YOUR specific situation, not just generic explanations. Takes all the detective work out of it honestly. I check it weekly to track my progress now. https://taxr.ai

•Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

•It's seriously amazing. You upload your transcript and it analyzes everything - explains all codes, tells you what's normal vs concerning, predicts refund timelines, and even spots potential issues before they become problems. Saved me from having to read through 50 forum posts trying to piece together what my situation meant. Wish I'd known about it sooner!

•is it actually accurate tho? most of these tools just give generic info

•That's what surprised me most - it's super specific! It caught that I had an offset I didn't even know about and explained exactly why my return was taking longer than my husband's. The timeline predictions have been spot on too. Not like the generic "2-3 weeks" stuff you get elsewhere.

I had the EXACT same situation last month. Got so fed up waiting on hold with the IRS that I used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) - they got me connected with an actual human IRS agent who explained my freeze code. Got everything sorted out in one call and my refund came through a week later. Such a relief after months of waiting and calling to busy signals. Best money I've spent all year considering how much of my refund was tied up.

•How does that even work? The IRS phone lines are impossible 🤔

Malik Johnson
•It's basically a callback service. They keep dialing and navigating the phone tree until they get in line, then they call you when they reach an agent. Saved me like 3 hours of hold music and getting disconnected. The agent I talked to was super helpful too.

•lol sounds fake. No way to skip the IRS line.

•Not skipping - they just do the waiting for you. They use some system that keeps redialing when it's busy. I was skeptical too but talking to an actual IRS person helped me get my issues sorted way faster than waiting for letters and checking WMR daily.

Yes! Progress! When you see that message change and no bad codes (971/570 combos r usually bad news), its typically moving forward. I had 507 for my identity verification last yr. The fact that you don't have a 971 means they didn't need to send you any notices, which is a good sign they're just doing internal verification.

im seein a lot of people with this pattern lately. the irs is doing more soft checks this year without telling people. as long as u dont have the dreaded 570 freeze code your probably fine. like that one person said, if ur not getting a 971 notice code they're just verifying internally and not requesting more info.

•Can confirm this. Work at a tax firm and most of our EITC clients have had these silent reviews. Almost all are getting approved within 60 days with no contact from IRS.

Processing ur return is way better than path act message! I had the same switch last week and got my DDD yesterday! Just hold on a bit longer!

Sorry to be negative but I had similar situation and then got a 420 examination code a week later. Started with 507, no 971, looked good, then bam - full audit. Hope yours turns out better! 🤞

•Not cool to scare people like that. A 420 code is pretty rare, most 507's resolve without issues.

The irs is a fuckin joke this year. I've been dealing with a 570 code since March. At least your return is processing which is better than being stuck in limbo like me 😫

•Tried 3 times. They're not taking new cases for simple refund delays anymore. Said I have to wait 6 months before they'll consider it a hardship. The whole system is broken.

Anybody else notice that like 80% of EITC claims seem to get these review codes this year? I feel like they're targeting lower income filers for some reason. My rich uncle got his refund in 2 weeks but all us working class people gotta wait months 🙄

Nia Thompson
•It's because EITC has the highest fraud rate of any tax credit. Like 25% of all EITC claims have some error or fraud. Not saying it's right to make everyone wait, but that's why.

Luca Esposito
•still feels unfair. they should have better systems to quickly verify the valid claims instead of making everyone wait.

•THIS! They literally hold our money hostage for months while billionaires get preferential treatment. The system is designed this way on purpose.

GalaxyGuardian
•Just because your uncle got his faster doesn't mean he's getting preferential treatment. If he has simple w2 income and no credits, it's just easier to process. Not everything is a conspiracy.

Just my two cents after 15 years as a tax preparer: the change from PATH Act message to processing is almost always a good sign. The 507 without 971 means they're verifying something but don't need additional info from you. In my experience, about 90% of these situations resolve with a refund in 2-4 weeks after the status change. Just be patient!

After spending FIVE hours trying to get through to the IRS yesterday, I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) based on another post here. They got me connected to an agent who answered all my questions about my transcript codes. Talking to a live person finally gave me real answers instead of guessing based on codes. If you're desperate for answers, it's worth every penny to skip the hold times.

•Yes! The agent was able to see notes on my account that don't show up on the transcript. She could see it was flagged for income verification but that it had already been cleared internally 2 days ago. She said refund should come within a week, and she was right - got my DDD today!

I'm going to go against everyone else here and say don't get your hopes up too much. I had this exact situation last year and ended up waiting 11 more weeks. Not trying to be negative, just realistic that the IRS is severely backlogged still.

Had this exact situation back in April. Couldn't get any answers on my 507 code and tried calling IRS like 20 times. Someone on here recommended Claimyr and it got me through to an agent in about 30 minutes. They explained exactly what was going on and released my refund during the call. Best $20 I ever spent considering my refund was over $4k. Try claimyr.com if you're tired of waiting for answers.

•I get both sides tbh. It sucks we have to pay for something that should be free, but also, if you need your refund urgently, waiting on hold for 4 hours isn't practical for most working people.

I used to work for the IRS (not anymore thank god lol). The 507 is just an automated review code. The fact that you don't have additional codes like 570/971 means it's likely just going through the system normally. The status change is definitely good news - means it's cleared the initial review stage. At this point I'd expect a DDD within 10-14 days unless something else comes up.

After reading this thread I downloaded my transcript and found the same code. Used taxr.ai to analyze it and it showed me exactly what's happening and why - turns out my 507 is because of partial income verification but it's actually progressing normally. Gives me a timeline and everything! So much better than guessing based on forum posts. https://taxr.ai

•Super simple! Just upload your transcript pdf and it breaks everything down in plain English. Shows all your codes with explanations, refund amount with any adjustments, timeline predictions, and flags any issues. The timeline feature is honestly my favorite part.

I've been in a similar situation and the status change from PATH Act message to "we are processing your return" is definitely a positive sign! The 507 code without a 971 notice code typically means they're doing internal verification and don't need additional documentation from you. Since you filed with EITC, these reviews are pretty standard - they're just making sure everything checks out. Based on what I've seen, most people with this exact pattern get their refund within 2-4 weeks after the status changes to processing. The fact that you're not seeing any additional freeze codes is really encouraging. Keep checking WMR for updates and try not to stress too much - it sounds like your return is moving through the system normally, just taking a bit longer due to the verification process.

This is really encouraging to hear! I'm in almost the exact same situation - filed in mid-February with EITC, had the PATH Act message forever, and just saw it switch to "we are processing your return" a few days ago. My transcript shows a 507 code too but no 971. Reading everyone's experiences here gives me hope that mine will follow the same pattern. It's been such a stressful wait, especially with bills piling up. Thanks for sharing your situation and for everyone who's provided helpful insights about what these codes mean!

Fingers crossed we both get our DDDs soon! 🤞

I'm dealing with something similar right now! Filed in early February with EITC and child tax credit, had the PATH Act message for what felt like forever, then it switched to "we are processing your return" about a week ago. My transcript shows a 507 code but no 971 notice code either. Reading through everyone's experiences here is really reassuring - it sounds like this is a pretty common pattern this year and most people are getting their refunds within a few weeks of the status change. The waiting is brutal when you're relying on that money, but it does seem like things are moving in the right direction. Thanks for posting this question because I've been wondering the exact same thing!

•I'm going through the exact same thing! Filed mid-February with EITC, had that PATH Act message for weeks, and just got the "processing" update a few days ago. My transcript also shows 507 with no 971. It's so stressful when you're waiting on that money for bills, but seeing all these similar experiences with positive outcomes is really helping my anxiety about it. I'm going through something very similar! Filed in late February with EITC and just saw my status change from the PATH Act message to "we are processing your return" yesterday. My transcript shows the 507 code too but no 971, which based on everyone's comments here seems like a good sign. It's such a relief to find this thread because I was starting to panic thinking something was wrong with my return. The waiting is so stressful when you need that money for unexpected expenses - I totally get it! From what everyone's sharing, it sounds like we're all part of the same verification wave this year and most people are getting their refunds within a few weeks of the status change. Really hoping mine follows the same pattern. Thanks for asking this question because it's exactly what I needed to hear today!

•Welcome to the club! It's crazy how many of us are going through the exact same thing this year. I filed around the same time and just got the status change too. The 507 without 971 seems to be the standard pattern for EITC reviews - from what I'm reading here, it's actually a good sign that they're not requesting additional documents from you. The waiting is absolutely brutal when you're counting on that money, but seeing all these success stories where people got their refunds 1-3 weeks after the status change is really keeping me hopeful. We're all in this together! 🤞

Filed in early February with EITC, had that dreaded PATH Act message for what felt like forever, then it switched to "we are processing your return" about 5 days ago. My transcript also shows the 507 code with no 971, which from reading all these comments seems to be the standard pattern this year for EITC reviews. It's such a relief to find this thread because I was getting really anxious about what was happening with my return. The waiting is absolutely killing me - I've got some medical bills that came up unexpectedly and I'm really counting on this refund. But seeing all these success stories where people got their refunds 1-3 weeks after the status change is giving me so much hope! It sounds like we're all part of the same verification wave and most people are getting positive outcomes. •Hey Paolo! I'm literally in the exact same boat - filed around the same time with EITC and just got that status change from PATH Act to processing a few days ago too. My transcript shows 507 with no 971 as well. It's so reassuring to see I'm not the only one going through this! The medical bills situation sounds really stressful - I'm dealing with some unexpected car repairs that I need this refund for. But reading through everyone's experiences here is making me feel so much better about the whole thing. It really does seem like this 507 without 971 pattern is super common for EITC filers this year and most people are getting their money within a few weeks of the status change. We've made it this far, so hopefully we're almost at the finish line! Fingers crossed we both get our DDDs soon! 🤞
