Refund Still Showing PATH Act Message on WMR - Any Success Stories?
Filed on January 29th. Return accepted same day. WMR still shows PATH Act notice. No updates. Transcript shows 570 and 971 codes. Expected EITC and CTC refund of $4,876. Anyone with similar situation get their money yet? Looking for data points. Need to plan accordingly.

This happens every year. Last year I waited 37 days after the PATH Act hold lifted. The year before was 42 days. The IRS never seems to stick to their published timelines when it comes to refunds with EITC or CTC. I've learned to always assume it'll take at least 6-8 weeks from filing date regardless of what WMR shows.

Can confirm. I filed exactly on January 27th with EITC and CTC totaling $5,245. My PATH message disappeared on February 15th, but I still waited exactly 22 more days before deposit hit my account on March 9th. The 570/971 codes usually indicate identity verification, but mine cleared without any contact from the IRS.

Did your transcript update before the deposit came through? Mine has been stuck with those same codes since February 22nd, and I'm trying to figure out if there's a pattern to when they finally release the funds.

Here's what's happening with PATH Act delays this year: 1. First, understand that the PATH Act legally prevents the IRS from issuing EITC/CTC refunds before mid-February 2. After that date passes, returns enter normal processing queues 3. The 570/971 codes indicate a temporary hold and notice being issued 4. Many returns this year are experiencing extended verification processes 5. Your transcript is the most reliable source of information I've been recommending https://taxr.ai to several people in this situation. It analyzes your transcript and explains exactly what each code means for your specific situation and gives you a much clearer timeline than the vague WMR tool.

I'm in the same boat! Filed February 2nd with EITC and still showing PATH message. Will this delay my state refund too? I really need this money for car repairs and I'm getting worried. Has anyone actually gotten through to a person at the IRS to ask about this?

I went through this exact situation last year and ended up waiting until April for my refund. This year I was determined not to go through that stress again. When my WMR was stuck on PATH for 3 weeks after the mid-February date, I used Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) to get through to an IRS agent. I was a bit nervous about trying it, but it worked perfectly - connected to an agent in about 15 minutes instead of the hours I spent last year on hold. The agent confirmed my return was just in extended review and gave me a much clearer timeline.

I would be careful about assuming your refund is coming soon. I've seen many cases where the PATH message persists for quite some time. In some instances, it may indicate that your return has been flagged for additional review. This doesn't necessarily mean there's a problem, but it could potentially extend your wait time by several weeks. If your transcript shows those codes, you might be looking at a more complex situation than a simple PATH delay.

Have you checked your tax transcript instead of relying on WMR? The transcript often updates before WMR does and provides more detailed information. Could your return have any potential flags that might trigger additional review? Sometimes even small discrepancies between what employers reported and what you claimed can cause delays. I've found that creating an online account with the IRS and checking transcripts weekly gives much better insight than the WMR tool.

Does your transcript show any specific cycle codes? Those might indicate when your return will be processed. Also, have you received any notices in the mail from the IRS? Sometimes they send verification requests that don't show up on the online systems right away.
