TurboTax Direct Deposit 2/26 - Still No Refund in Account?

According to IRS Publication 2043, e-filed returns with direct deposit should be processed within 21 days, barring any issues. I filed via TurboTax on 2/11 with a scheduled direct deposit date of 2/26 (which was 15 days ago at this point). No deposit has hit my account yet. WMR still shows "approved" status with the 2/26 date. I've thoroughly reviewed my transcript and see codes 846 with the 2/26 date, which per IRS guidelines indicates a scheduled refund. Has anyone else experienced this delay with TurboTax specifically? I'm wondering if there's a systemic issue with their batch processing this tax season.

I had the same issue. Got my refund yesterday. Was supposed to come on 2/26 too. Bank held it for verification. Call your bank. They might have it. IRS sent it on time. Banks are being extra careful this year.

This happened to me last year with Chase. They held my refund for 5 business days for 'security verification' without even notifying me! When I called, they immediately released it. Always worth checking with your bank first before assuming it's an IRS problem.

Is this a new policy banks are implementing? I wonder if it's related to the increased fraud attempts the IRS has been reporting. Have others experienced this with smaller credit unions or just major banks?

My credit union held mine too! Was supposed to deposit on February 29th, didn't show up until March 4th. When I called on March 1st, they said it was in their system but under review. Seems like it's happening everywhere this tax season.

Thanks for this info! I'll call my bank right away. I was so focused on the IRS side that I didn't even think about my bank possibly holding things up.

I'm wondering if perhaps this might be related to the bank routing number you entered? Sometimes, if there's even a slight discrepancy between your TurboTax entry and your actual bank information, it could potentially cause delays of approximately 5-7 business days while the system attempts to reconcile the information. Have you possibly verified that all your banking details were entered correctly?

I had this exact problem last year. Entered my routing number correctly but transposed two digits in my account number. The bank rejected it and the IRS had to mail me a paper check instead. Took an extra 3 weeks to get my money. Always triple-check those numbers!

Would it be helpful to contact TurboTax directly about this? I've had issues in the past and sometimes they can see information about the deposit that we can't see on our end.

1. Check your TurboTax confirmation email for the bank details you entered 2. Compare those with your actual account information 3. If they match, contact your bank immediately 4. If they don't match, prepare for a paper check 5. Check your mail daily as the IRS won't update WMR with the change to paper check until it's already been mailed

I was stuck in refund limbo like a hamster on a wheel - checking WMR every hour and getting nowhere. It's like the IRS puts our money in a maze and we're just watching it try to find the exit. I finally used https://taxr.ai to analyze my transcript and it was like having night vision goggles in that maze. The site explained that my 846 code with a 2/26 date meant the money was released but could take 1-5 additional business days to appear in my account. The banking system is like a series of tubes, and sometimes your money gets stuck at a junction point between the IRS and your bank.

According to Internal Revenue Manual 21.4.1.4.7, when the IRS issues a direct deposit refund (code 846), the refund is sent to the Financial Management Service (FMS) for processing, not directly to your bank. Per IRS guidelines, this can add 1-5 business days beyond your DD date. In my case, my 2/21 DD date actually hit my account on 2/27. My transcript showed code 846 with 2/21 date, but the funds took an additional 4 business days to process through the banking system.

Thank you for explaining this! I had no idea there was a middle step between the IRS and my bank. Makes so much more sense now why there's always a delay.

Does this mean the 846 date is just when they send it to FMS, not when it actually gets sent to banks? That would explain a lot about why the dates never seem to match up.

Is this documented somewhere on the IRS website? I'd like to understand more about this process since it seems to happen every year.

I was in the exact same boat ๐Ÿ˜… DD date of 2/26, money nowhere to be found by March 5th. I was about to lose my mind waiting for my refund to pay some bills! After getting nowhere with the automated system, I used Claimyr (https://www.claimyr.com) to actually reach a human at the IRS. Got connected in about 15 minutes instead of the 2+ hours I spent on hold last year. The agent confirmed my refund was actually sent to the wrong account (typo in TurboTax) and they were already processing a paper check instead. Saved me weeks of wondering where my money was!

Is this service actually legit? Seems sketchy to pay money just to talk to the IRS when you can call them for free if you're patient enough.

I was worried about spending money on a service too, but honestly, it saved me so much stress! The time I would have spent on hold is worth way more than what they charge. Plus, finding out early that my refund had an issue meant I could adjust my budget immediately rather than waiting weeks for a letter in the mail. When you're counting on that refund money for bills, knowing exactly what's happening is priceless. The peace of mind alone was worth it for me.

FYI - if ur DD date was 2/26 & still nothing, check transcript for TC 971 code. Sometimes they flip from DD to check w/o telling u. Also, many banks (esp Wells & BofA) holding tax refunds for 5-7 biz days this yr due to fraud concerns. TT batches usually hit accts by EOD on DD date but can take up to 5 biz days to clear banking system. Def call ur bank first, then IRS if needed.
