FL DEO unemployment claim on hold for months - no payments, can't reach anyone. Help?

I'm so frustrated with my unemployment claim. It's been on hold for months now and I can't seem to get any answers. I filed back in April and haven't received a single payment or even a letter explaining what's going on. I've tried calling but can never get through to a real person. Has anyone else been stuck in this limbo? Any advice on how to get my claim moving again?

Anyone else notice how they always seem to "lose" our documents? I've sent my ID verification like 5 times now πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

Same here! It's like they have a document-eating monster in their office

Pro tip: send it certified mail. Then they can't claim they didn't get it.

Using certified mail seems like a hassle, but it’s a sure way to cover your bases.

Have you tried contacting your local representative? Sometimes they can help push things along.

β€’

I haven't thought of that. How do I find out who my rep is?

Just google "[your county] state representative". Send them an email explaining your situation. They usually have staff dedicated to helping with these issues.

That's a great idea! Sometimes a little extra pressure from a representative can make a huge difference.

Welcome to the club, buddy. I've been in the same boat since March. It's like they're playing hide and seek with our money πŸ™„

Ugh, the EDD system is such a joke. I swear they're using technology from the stone age πŸ¦–

For real tho. My grandma could code a better system with her flip phone πŸ˜‚

Hey now, don't insult the stone age like that! At least rocks are reliable πŸͺ¨

It's wild how outdated some of these systems are. Hopefully, the new bill will bring some much-needed upgrades.

Sometimes older methods work better with outdated systems. Worth a try!

I FINALLY GOT THROUGH AFTER 6 MONTHS!!! Here's what worked for me: 1. Call right when they open at 8am 2. If you get the "too many callers" message, hang up and redial immediately 3. Keep doing this until you get the hold music 4. Be prepared to wait 2-3 hours on hold It's a pain, but it worked. Good luck!

Have you checked your online account for any updates? Sometimes they update stuff there without sending notifications.

Dang, that sucks. Hang in there!

Also, make sure your contact info is up to date. Sometimes they try reaching out but can't.

Just a heads up, there's a new bill that might help speed things up. It's supposed to add more staff to handle claims. Fingers crossed it actually does something 🀞

Have you tried the unemployment subreddit? Lots of good info there too.

Reddit can be super helpful, but always cross-check info to make sure it’s accurate.

I know it's frustrating, but hang in there. The unemployment system can be notoriously slow because of administrative backlog and outdated technologies. Claimyr, as mentioned, is indeed a legitimate service that helps people connect with live agents faster. However, it's important to note that while Claimyr can be a useful tool, it does require a fee, which might not be feasible for everyone. The option to contact your local representative, as suggested, can sometimes expedite the process effectively without cost. Also, trying different approaches like calling at off-peak hours or using multiple contact methods, including certified mail for document submissions, can increase your chances of resolution. Meanwhile, staying updated on any new legislative changes or additional resources shared on platforms like Reddit can provide some additional guidance or support. Keep persisting, and hopefully, your claim will be resolved soon.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Check out this video: https://youtu.be/AsdxiF0IH1k

Sounds sketchy. Is it legit?

Totally legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of hold time.

$20 just to talk to someone? The system is so broken 😀

I used Claimyr too and it worked for me, but I do think it's a shame we have to resort to paying for help.

I'm in a similar situation - filed in May and still waiting! One thing that helped me get some movement was filing a complaint with the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity's Inspector General. You can do it online at their website. It forces them to actually look at your case within a certain timeframe. Also, try calling the DEO Connect phone number (833-FL-APPLY) at exactly 7:30 AM before they officially open - sometimes you can get through easier then. The whole system is frustrating but don't give up! Document everything and keep copies of all your submissions.

Thanks for the Inspector General tip! I had no idea that was even an option. Definitely going to try that along with the early morning calling strategy. It's crazy that we have to jump through so many hoops just to get what we're entitled to, but I appreciate you sharing what's worked for you.

I've been dealing with the same nightmare since June - it's absolutely maddening! What finally got some movement on my case was doing multiple things at once: I filed the Inspector General complaint that @Ethan Wilson mentioned (great tip!), contacted my state senator's office, AND used the certified mail approach for all documents. The senator's office was surprisingly helpful - they have a constituent services team that deals with DEO issues regularly. Also, I started keeping a detailed log of every call attempt, every document sent, and every interaction. When I finally got through to someone, having all those details ready made the conversation much more productive. The whole system is broken, but persistence really does pay off. Don't lose hope - your claim will eventually get resolved!

This is really helpful advice! I'm definitely going to try the multi-pronged approach you mentioned. It makes sense that hitting them from different angles would get better results than just trying one thing. The detailed log idea is brilliant too - I've been so scattered in my attempts that I probably can't even remember half of what I've tried. Thanks for sharing your experience and giving me hope that there's light at the end of this tunnel!

I'm dealing with the exact same frustration! Filed in March and still stuck in limbo with no explanation. The advice here about contacting your state representative and filing an Inspector General complaint is gold - I had no idea those were even options. I'm also going to try that early morning calling strategy at 7:30 AM. It's absolutely ridiculous that we have to become detective-level persistent just to get our own benefits, but I'm not giving up. Thanks everyone for sharing what's worked - this community support means everything when the system keeps failing us! πŸ’ͺ

You're absolutely right about needing detective-level persistence! I'm new here but have been lurking and reading everyone's experiences. It's both comforting and infuriating to know I'm not alone in this mess. I filed in April too and have gotten nowhere despite multiple attempts. Definitely going to try the Inspector General complaint and reaching out to my rep - never would have thought of those approaches on my own. This community is a lifesaver when the actual system designed to help us is completely broken. We shouldn't have to work this hard for our own money! πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

Just wanted to add my voice to this thread - I've been stuck since February and it's been absolutely brutal. The stress of not knowing when (or if) payments will come through is taking a real toll. I tried the Claimyr service mentioned here and while it did get me through to someone after about a week of trying, the agent basically told me my case was "under review" with no timeline. At least I have documentation of that conversation now though. I'm going to try the Inspector General complaint route next - thank you @Ethan Wilson and @Fatima Al-Suwaidi for sharing that option! It's sad that we have to become our own advocates to this extent, but this community has given me so many strategies I never would have thought of. Hang in there everyone - we'll get through this mess eventually! πŸ™

I'm so sorry you've been waiting since February - that's absolutely unacceptable! It's encouraging though that you at least got some documentation through Claimyr, even if the answer wasn't helpful. Having that paper trail seems to be really important based on what others are saying. I'm also planning to try the Inspector General complaint after reading about it here - it's amazing how this community has shared so many options I never knew existed. The emotional toll of this whole process is real, but seeing everyone support each other here gives me hope. We really shouldn't have to fight this hard for basic assistance, but at least we're not fighting alone! πŸ’™

I'm going through the exact same thing and it's absolutely infuriating! Filed my claim back in May and haven't seen a single penny. The worst part is the complete lack of communication - like, just tell us what's wrong so we can fix it! Reading through all these comments has been both depressing and helpful. I had no idea about the Inspector General complaint option or reaching out to state representatives - definitely trying both of those this week. The fact that we have to jump through all these hoops just to get basic information about our own claims is beyond ridiculous. Thanks to everyone sharing their strategies and experiences - at least we know we're not alone in this nightmare! 🀞

I completely feel your frustration! The lack of communication is honestly the worst part - like you said, just tell us what's missing so we can fix it! I'm also going to try the Inspector General complaint after reading about it from @Ethan Wilson and others. It s'wild that we have to learn about these options from each other instead of from DEO directly. I m'planning to combine that with the early morning calling strategy and reaching out to my state rep too. This whole situation is such a mess, but I m'grateful for everyone here sharing what s'worked. We really shouldn t'have to become unemployment claim experts just to get our benefits, but here we are! Hang in there - sounds like persistence really does pay off eventually! πŸ’ͺ
