EDD phone interview confusion - employer address issue keeping benefits on pending for a month
I've been stuck on pending for over a month because of an employer address issue. EDD sent a letter to my former employer but it was returned due to an incorrect address. Finally got my phone interview today, but I'm completely confused about what happened.\n\nThe interviewer ONLY asked me to confirm the "incorrect" address they had on file (which isn't even my previous employer's old address). I tried explaining I have their current mailing address plus a form from them confirming my last day and that it was seasonal work. She didn't seem interested in any of this information!\n\nShe didn't tell me if/when my funds would be released or what happens next. I specifically asked if she needed the employer's correct mailing address, and she said NO. How does that make sense? I'm worried they'll just resend to the wrong address again and I'll be stuck in this loop forever.\n\nIt took so much effort to reach a human being for this interview, and now I feel like nothing was accomplished. Should I call EDD back and try to give them the correct employer address, or just wait and hope the interviewer somehow fixed things? I'm getting desperate after a month with no benefits.

same thing happend to me last year!!! they kept sending stuff to my old job at the WRONG address and my claim was stuck for 6 weeks!!! you need to call EDD ASAP and tell them about the address issue. the person you talked to probably didn't document anything properly. the system is broken and no one ever seems to know what's going on. DONT WAIT bc they'll just keep using the wrong address and you'll be stuck forever!!

Oh no, 6 weeks?? I'm already at 4 weeks and struggling. Did you just call the regular EDD number? I've tried calling so many times but can never get through.

The interviewer likely only needed to verify the address information as part of their process to document the employer couldn't be reached at the address on file. Many EDD reps are working through specific checklists and scripts.\n\nHere's what's probably happening: Since they couldn't reach your employer for verification, they needed to document they attempted contact and confirm the address discrepancy with you. This often allows them to move forward with your claim based solely on the information you've provided.\n\nI would give it 3-5 business days to see if your pending status changes to paid. If not, then you should definitely call back. Your interview may have been sufficient to resolve the issue even though it didn't seem that way.

Thank you for explaining this! I hope you're right. I'll wait a few days and see if anything changes. It's just so stressful being in limbo without knowing what's happening.

This is very common with EDD right now. The verification process for employers has been a mess in 2025. I went through an almost identical situation in February.\n\nThe fact that you completed the interview is actually a good sign, even if it seemed pointless. The interviewer was likely just checking a required box in the system. In my case, my benefits were released about 4 business days after my interview even though the interviewer never told me that would happen.\n\nIf your status doesn't change by next week, I'd recommend using Claimyr to get through to an EDD rep quickly. It's a service that connects you with EDD without waiting on hold for hours. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. I wish I had known about it earlier in my claim process - it saved me so much frustration.

Not OP but how does this Claimyr thing work? I'm skeptical of anything that claims to help with EDD. Did you actually get through faster?

@anxiousclaimant - Yes, it worked for me. It basically calls EDD for you and then connects you when it gets through. I was connected in about 20 minutes instead of spending all day trying to get through. They have a demo video on their site that shows exactly how it works. Was definitely worth it for me when I was dealing with my address verification issue.

I can second this. I used it last month when I had a similar employer verification issue. Best money I ever spent after trying to call on my own for 3 days straight.

wait u have a form from the employer confirming ur last day worked?? thats gold!! call edd back and tell them u have PROOF of ur work dates and that it was seasonal. make sure u talk to a tier 2 rep tho not just the first person who answers. sometimes the interviewers dont know what theyre doing tbh

Yes! I have an official form they gave me when the season ended. Should I just keep calling until I get through? I'm not sure how to specifically ask for a tier 2 rep.

To clarify about tier 2 reps - when you call EDD, the first person who answers is usually a tier 1 representative. They handle basic questions and updates. If your issue is more complex (like address verification problems), you can specifically ask to be transferred to a tier 2 specialist. Just politely say \

Thank you! I'll definitely try this approach. I've been calling the 800 number but can never get through - it always says they're experiencing high call volume. Is there a better time of day to call or a different number I should try?

my cousin works at edd (not telling which office lol) and she says the whole system with employer verification is a MESS right now. they have a huge backlog and the addresses in the system are often outdated. your interviewer probably just needed to document that they attempted to verify employment so your claim can move forward. did you certify for the weeks while you were waiting? make sure you keep certifying every 2 weeks even if youre not getting paid yet!!

Yes, I've been certifying every two weeks! Everything says

I had a somewhat similar issue but with my identity verification. EDD's systems don't always communicate well with each other. What worked for me was bringing all my documentation to an in-person EDD office. Do you have an office near you? Sometimes face-to-face is the only way to get these issues resolved when there's confusing paperwork involved. They could scan your employer form right there and add it to your file.

This is actually great advice! I forgot the in-person offices reopened. I waited on phones for WEEKS before I finally went in person and they fixed my issue in 20 minutes!!

Thanks everyone for the advice! I'll wait until Monday to see if anything changes with my claim status. If not, I'll try calling again and specifically ask for a tier 2 rep. If that fails, I'll look into Claimyr or visiting an office in person. I just checked and there's an EDD office about 30 minutes from me. Really appreciate all your help - this has been so stressful and confusing to deal with.

That sounds like a good plan. One more tip: if you do end up visiting an office in person, bring EVERYTHING with you - your ID, Social Security card, the employer form, any EDD paperwork you've received, and even screenshots of your online account showing the pending status. Better to have too much documentation than not enough. Good luck!

I'm dealing with something very similar right now! My claim has been pending for 3 weeks because they can't reach my former employer. The frustrating part is that I have all the documentation they need - pay stubs, my final paycheck showing the end date, and even a letter from HR confirming my employment dates. But EDD seems stuck on trying to contact the employer directly instead of just accepting the documents I already have. From reading everyone's responses here, it sounds like the interview you had might actually move things forward even though it felt useless. I'm going to try the Claimyr service that @Nick mentioned - I've been trying to call EDD for days with no luck. Has anyone else here had success getting their employer verification issues resolved without EDD actually reaching the employer? I'm wondering if having solid documentation is enough or if they really need that employer contact.
