EDD keeps claiming wrong phone number for eligibility interview - missed call after waiting 10 months!

I'm about to lose my mind with this phone interview situation! After 10 long months of waiting since I filed my UI claim, I finally got scheduled for an eligibility interview yesterday. Guess what? NO CALL. Zero. Nothing. I waited by my phone all day like it was glued to my hand! When I called EDD (after 47 attempts to get through), the rep had the nerve to tell me they had the 'wrong phone number' in their system and that's why the interviewer couldn't reach me. They directed me to some obscure section in UI Online to update my contact info - but here's the kicker - I DOUBLE-CHECKED and my correct phone number was already listed there! The same number I've been using for everything! Now they're saying they need to mail me a form that I have to fill out and mail back just to request ANOTHER interview appointment. This could take weeks or months more! I asked if I could just reschedule over the phone, but got a vague non-answer. I've heard horror stories about EDD interviewers deliberately marking 'no answer' even when people are waiting for calls. After 10 months of waiting and zero income, I can't afford any more delays. Has anyone else dealt with this 'wrong number' excuse? Any suggestions for making sure I actually get through to a real interview next time? I'm desperate here.

This happened to me in January! They claimed wrong number but I had confirmed mine multiple times. Here's what worked: 1) Update your contact info again even though it's correct 2) Call EDD and specifically request to speak with a tier 2 specialist who can see interview notes 3) Ask them to add a case note that your number is confirmed correct 4) Request they expedite your rescheduled interview due to the error on their end This sounds complicated, but the key is getting to a tier 2 specialist. Regular reps often can't access the detailed interview notes or schedule priority interviews.

Thank you for the specific steps! Did you actually manage to get through to a tier 2 specialist? I've been trying all morning and can't even get past the automated system. It keeps saying "we're experiencing higher than normal call volume" and hangs up on me.

4 MONTHS??? I can't wait that long! Did he do anything specific to finally get the interview rescheduled, or was it just persistence?

he just kept calling and finally someone helped him. also he contacted his assembly person or whatever its called. that seemed to help speed it up

The EDD system is DESIGNED to make people give up!!! I went through the EXACT same thing in February. They claimed I had the wrong phone # but it was 100% correct in my account. I waited 7 months for the first interview and then they pulled this garbage. I think some interviewers don't want to do their jobs so they just mark "couldn't reach claimant" and move on. It's disgusting. DON'T mail back that form - it goes into a black hole. You need to keep calling until you get someone who will actually help you. Ask for a supervisor immediately. If they won't transfer you, hang up and try again. Also, DOCUMENT EVERYTHING - write down who you talked to, when, what they said. You might need it for an appeal later.

That's exactly what I'm afraid of - that they're just trying to get rid of my claim! I'll definitely start documenting everything. Did you eventually get your interview? How long did it take after the missed call?

I finally got my interview 6 weeks later, but ONLY because I contacted my state assemblyman's office. They have EDD liaisons who can cut through the BS. Seriously, Google your local state rep and call their office. It's the ONLY thing that worked after dozens of calls to EDD.

Have you tried reaching out to your state assembly member or senator's office? They have dedicated EDD caseworkers who can often resolve these situations much faster than going through normal channels. I've seen many cases where people waited months, then got their issues resolved in days after contacting their representative. As for the phone issue - I'd suggest updating your contact information again even though it's correct. Then call EDD and specifically request they add a note to your file confirming your correct phone number and the best time to reach you. Be extremely persistent about getting transferred to a tier 2 specialist who can add detailed notes to your file. Also, send a message through UI Online documenting the situation. This creates a paper trail showing you're actively trying to resolve the issue, which can help if you need to appeal later.

Thank you! I didn't know about contacting my assembly member. I'll look that up right now. I've tried sending messages through UI Online, but it feels like shouting into a void - I never get responses. Did you find that those messages actually helped your case?

The UI Online messages rarely get responses, but they do create a record in your account that can be helpful later. The assembly member route is definitely the most effective approach I've seen. They have direct channels to EDD that bypass the regular phone systems. I've known people who had claims stuck for months get them resolved within 1-2 weeks after assembly office involvement.

try Claimyr (claimyr.com) its the only way i could ever get thru to edd. they call u back when they get an edd rep on the line so u dont waste hours trying to get past the busy signals. they have a video showing how it works on youtube https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km it was the only thing that worked for me when i had a similar problem with my eligibility interview. once i got through i asked for a tier 2 specialist who could actually fix the problem.

I'm checking this out now. At this point I'd try anything to get this resolved. Did you have to wait long to get connected to an actual person?

it took maybe 30 mins for them to get thru to an edd rep for me - WAY better than the hours i was wasting trying myself. just make sure u ask for a tier 2 specialist right away bc the regular reps cant really help with interview scheduling

When I had my eligibility interview scheduled, I took extra precautions because I'd heard about these "wrong number" issues. The day before my interview, I called EDD and confirmed they had my correct number on file. I also asked them to note in my account that I was expecting the call and my phone would be available. During the interview window, I made sure to: - Keep my phone fully charged - Have good reception (stayed in one spot) - Answer ANY call, even unknown numbers - Not have any call blocking or spam filtering active It worked! I got my call right on schedule. For your rescheduled interview, I'd recommend doing all of this plus sending a message through UI Online the day before confirming you're prepared for the interview and listing your correct phone number again.

These are great tips! I definitely answered every call yesterday, even spam calls, because I was so worried about missing it. I'll make sure to call the day before to confirm next time. Did you have to specifically ask for a manager or tier 2 rep when you called to confirm?

I think EDD uses these "wrong number" excuses as a way to deny claims without actually reviewing them. I've been working on UI claims for 15 years and I've seen this pattern repeatedly. They're overwhelmed with claims and some adjusters take shortcuts. For your situation, I recommend doing two things simultaneously: 1. Start the assembly member contact process (as others have suggested) 2. Request a formal appeal for "failure to provide proper interview" - this creates a parallel process that can sometimes get faster results For the rescheduled interview, send a written statement through UI Online 24 hours prior stating: "I confirm my phone number is XXX-XXX-XXXX for my eligibility interview scheduled on [date]. I will be available all day at this number. This serves as written confirmation of my contact information." This creates a documentation trail they can't easily ignore. Don't rely on that form they're mailing you - that's just another delay tactic.

Thank you for the professional perspective! I hadn't thought about filing an appeal specifically for "failure to provide proper interview" - I'll look into that right away. Is there a specific form or process for that type of appeal?

Use the standard appeal form (DE 1000M) but be very specific in your explanation. Write "Appeal for failure to provide proper interview opportunity due to EDD error" as your reason. Include dates, times, and documentation of your correct phone number. Submit via UI Online for fastest processing. The magic words "EDD error" often flag the appeal for priority review.

Update: I just got off the phone with an EDD rep after using Claimyr to get through (thanks for that suggestion!). After pushing to speak to a tier 2 specialist, I learned something interesting - they claimed there was a "system note" saying I had requested my interview be conducted at a different number, which is absolutely NOT true. The specialist apologized and said this appears to be an error in their system. They've rescheduled my interview for next week and added multiple notes confirming my correct phone number. They also said they're expediting it because of the error on their end. I'm still going to contact my assembly member's office as backup. Thanks everyone for the advice! I'll update again after the interview (hopefully).

Good job pushing for that tier 2 specialist! Amazing how they suddenly find a solution when you get to someone with actual authority. Still contact your assembly person though - having that extra pressure helps ensure they don't pull the same trick twice.

Great news! Make sure to call the day before to triple-confirm everything is still set. And definitely still proceed with the assembly member contact - it creates accountability in the system. Good luck with your interview!
