EDD eligibility interviewer never called - been waiting 3 hours past scheduled window

I'm seriously stressing out right now. My eligibility interview was scheduled for today between 10am-12pm, but it's already 3pm and no one has called me yet! I made sure my phone was fully charged, volume up, and I've been sitting next to it this whole time. My phone shows no missed calls. I even checked my spam filter to make sure nothing got blocked. This interview is crucial because my claim has been pending for almost 3 weeks now, and my savings are almost gone. Has anyone else experienced this? Do EDD interviewers usually run this late? Should I try calling them, or just wait longer? I'm worried that if I miss this interview somehow, I'll have to reschedule and wait another month with no income. The letter specifically said they'd call between 10-12, but nothing happened...

This happens pretty often with EDD interviews unfortunately. They're chronically understaffed and the interviewers get backed up throughout the day. I had a similar experience where my interview was scheduled for 2-4pm but the interviewer didn't call until 5:30pm. Keep your phone handy for the rest of the day - they might still call today. If they don't call by the end of business day (around 5pm), you should try calling EDD tomorrow morning to check the status. Sometimes they reschedule without notifying you.

Thanks for the response, that's somewhat reassuring. I'll keep my phone close until 5pm then. Do you happen to know what number I should call tomorrow if they never reach out? The regular EDD number seems impossible to get through to.

What did you end up doing? Did you have to reschedule or did they eventually call you on a different day?

Keep in mind that EDD interviews can run behind schedule, but they should still call you today. The interviewers have a daily schedule, and when earlier interviews run long, it creates a cascading delay. In my experience working with clients, they typically will still call on the scheduled day, just later than expected. Make sure your phone can receive calls from blocked or private numbers, as EDD numbers often appear this way. If they don't call by 5pm, I recommend trying to contact them first thing tomorrow morning to explain what happened and see about rescheduling. Try not to worry too much about missing the interview. Document today's date and the fact that you were available during and after the scheduled time window. This documentation can help if there's any issue later with your claim.

That's really helpful info, especially about the blocked numbers. I just checked and my phone does allow blocked calls to come through. I'll definitely document everything too, just in case. It's just so nerve-wracking to be in this financial limbo.

That's typical EDD for you - they expect us to be available whenever they decide to call, but if we miss their call by even a second, they act like we committed a crime! The whole system is designed to make you feel like you're constantly doing something wrong.

I went through this exact situation in February. Waited all day, no call. Tried calling EDD the next day but couldn't get through - kept getting the "we're experiencing high call volume" message and disconnecting. After two days of failed calling attempts, I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get through to an EDD representative in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km When I finally got through, the EDD rep told me the interviewer had tried calling but couldn't reach me (which was totally false - I had zero missed calls). They rescheduled my interview for the following week, and that time the interviewer actually called on time. If you're having trouble reaching EDD tomorrow, you might want to try that service. Saved me a lot of frustration.

Thanks for the recommendation! I'll try calling normally first thing tomorrow, but if I can't get through I'll definitely check out that service. I really can't afford any more delays with this claim, and the thought of waiting another few weeks is making me physically ill with stress.

UPDATE: I just called EDD (finally got through after trying for an hour). The representative looked up my account and confirmed that my interview is still scheduled for today, but the interviewer is running several hours behind schedule. They said I should expect a call by 6pm, and if not, to call back tomorrow. Be sure to answer ALL calls today, even if they look like spam. EDD's outbound numbers can appear as all sorts of weird things on caller ID.

Thank you SO MUCH for this update! That's a huge relief to know it's still happening today. I've been so worried they somehow skipped me entirely. I'll definitely answer every single call that comes in. Really appreciate you following up!

When this happened to me last year, I found out later that the interviewer had called from a number different from what was listed on my paperwork, and my phone had silenced it thinking it was spam. Now I've learned to answer EVERY call on interview day, even the obvious spam ones. One quick tip: prepare your documents now while you're waiting. Have your ID, any termination paperwork, last paystub, and work search records readily available. That way you won't be scrambling when they finally do call. Good luck!

That's a really good point! I've got most of my documents together, but I'll double-check everything now so I'm completely ready when they call. Thanks for the advice!

Just to add clarity: EDD eligibility interviews are typically scheduled for a two-hour window, but the actual interview usually takes about 15-30 minutes depending on your claim's complexity. If your interviewer is running behind, they're likely dealing with a backlog of cases from earlier in the day. If they don't call by close of business today (usually 5pm, sometimes 6pm during high-volume periods), be prepared to call first thing tomorrow (8am) to request information. Document your attempts to contact them as this can be helpful if your claim is delayed due to their scheduling error.

UPDATE: They finally called at 4:45pm! The interview only took about a) 20 minutes. The interviewer apologized for the delay and said they'd been working through a backlog. She said my claim should be processed within 2-3 business days. Thanks everyone for your help and keeping me sane during this stressful wait!
