Missed EDD eligibility interview by 5 minutes - called at wrong time - need advice ASAP

I'm freaking out right now. Had my eligibility interview scheduled for 12:00 today but the EDD interviewer called at 12:05 instead of exactly at 12. I just started a new part-time job (which I reported on my certification) and couldn't break away from training to answer. By the time I saw the missed call, it was 12:10. The interviewer left a voicemail saying to "refer to the notice" but didn't specify what notice or if they'd call back! I'm terrified this means automatic disqualification. My benefits are already on hold waiting for this interview resolution and rent is due next week. Has anyone dealt with missing an interview call? Can I reschedule somehow? Do I just call the main number (which I've tried 8 times already with no luck)? Really need advice here because I can't afford to lose these benefits over 5 minutes!

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm going to check my UI Online inbox obsessively. Did you have to wait long for your rescheduled interview? My claim has been pending for almost 4 weeks already and I'm getting desperate.

When you miss an eligibility interview, EDD typically sends a DE 4800 form (Notice of Determination) within 5-7 business days. This form will explain if your claim is disqualified or if you're approved despite missing the interview. If disqualified, you have 30 days to appeal. The best approach is to be proactive. Call EDD first thing tomorrow morning (8:00 AM sharp) and explain your situation. Ask specifically for the option to reschedule your eligibility interview. Make sure to mention that the interviewer called at 12:05, not at the scheduled time of 12:00. While waiting, upload any documentation that supports your claim to your UI Online account. This creates a paper trail showing your good faith effort to cooperate with the process.

This!! 👆 I got disqualified after missing my interview and had to go through the whole appeal process. Took FOREVER. Definitely call them ASAP before they make a determination.

Why were u even at a new job during ur interview time? Thought u were supposed to be available during the whole window they give u for the call. Doesn't look good that ur working when they're trying to determine if u should get unemployment tbh

This isn't accurate. You're allowed to work part-time while receiving reduced unemployment benefits as long as you report your earnings on your bi-weekly certification. EDD actually encourages claimants to accept part-time work while searching for full-time employment. The eligibility interview might be about something else entirely - like verifying identity, reason for separation from previous employer, or confirming work search activities.

I've been through this EXACT situation in January 2025. It's ridiculous that they expect you to drop everything, but don't even call at the scheduled time! Here's what worked for me: 1. I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an actual EDD representative. They have this system that basically holds your place in line and calls you when an agent is available. Saved me from redialing 100+ times. Their video shows how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km 2. Once I got through, I explained that I missed the call because the interviewer called outside the scheduled time. They were able to flag my account for a reschedule. 3. Got a new interview date within 8 days. Don't wait for them to make a determination without your input - that usually leads to automatic disqualification. Be proactive!

Thank you SO MUCH for this info. I've literally been calling over and over with no luck. I'll check out that service - at this point I'm desperate to talk to anyone at EDD who can help before they disqualify me. Did your benefits stay on hold the whole time until your rescheduled interview?

THE EDD IS A COMPLETE JOKE!!!! They pull this crap all the time - give you a time slot, call whenever they feel like it, then punish YOU when you miss their random call. I had an interviewer call me 30 MINUTES EARLY last year and then disqualified me when I wasn't available because I WAS DRIVING TO A QUIET SPOT FOR THE ACTUAL SCHEDULED TIME. Had to appeal and wait 11 weeks for payment while they "processed" my appeal. The whole system is designed to deny benefits any way possible!!!

Here's what you need to do: 1. Wait 24 hours and check your UI Online inbox for a notice about your missed interview. EDD usually processes these fairly quickly. 2. If no notice appears, call EDD at 1-800-300-5616 as early as possible (they open at 8am). Due to high call volume, you may need to make multiple attempts. 3. When speaking with a representative, explain that you missed the call by only 5 minutes due to the interviewer calling later than scheduled. Ask specifically for a "Good Cause" reschedule of your eligibility interview. 4. Document everything. Note the date and time of all calls, the names of representatives you speak with, and save any correspondence. 5. Continue certifying for benefits while this is being resolved. Maintain your work search activities and keep records. EDD does have provisions for rescheduling missed interviews when there's reasonable justification. The interviewer calling at a different time than scheduled provides reasonable grounds for requesting a new interview date.

Thank you for the detailed steps. I'll definitely use the term "Good Cause reschedule" when I talk to them. Really hoping I can get through tomorrow morning.

Yes, I reported the part-time job on my certification as I mentioned in my post. I've been totally honest about everything. The interview was scheduled before I even got this job, so I think it's about something else.

Just an additional note - when you do get through to EDD, make sure to ask them to document in your file that the interviewer called at 12:05, not at the scheduled time of 12:00. This creates an official record that may help if you need to appeal later. Also, prepare a brief explanation of why you couldn't step away from your new job training to take the call - having this ready will help when you speak with a representative.

This is excellent advice. Documentation is EVERYTHING with EDD. I learned that the hard way!

Good thinking - just checked my spam folder and regular inbox. Nothing from EDD yet, but I'll keep checking.

Update us when you get this resolved! I'm sure others will run into the same situation and could benefit from knowing what worked for you.

Will do! Going to try calling at 8am sharp tomorrow, and if that doesn't work, I'll try that Claimyr service you mentioned. Really appreciate everyone's help - been panicking all day about this.
