EDD phone interview no-show after 12pm - should I keep waiting?

I scheduled my eligibility phone interview with EDD for today between 10am-12pm, but it's now 12:05 and nobody has called yet. I have a doctor's appointment at 1:30pm that I really can't reschedule (been waiting 3 months to get in). Should I keep waiting for the EDD call? Will they disqualify my claim if I miss their call because they're running late? My notification letter says the interview window is 10-12 but also mentions they might call up to a week later if they can't reach me during the scheduled time. Has anyone dealt with this? I'm freaking out because I NEED these benefits to pay rent next month.

They're often running behind schedule. When I had my phone interview, they called almost an hour past the end of my window. Your letter is correct though - if they don't reach you today, they should attempt to call again within a week. Just make sure your voicemail is set up and not full! If you do miss the call, call EDD back immediately and explain the situation.

Thank you! I'll wait until 12:30 at least. Do you think I should call EDD now to tell them I have a conflict after 1pm? Or will that just complicate things?

That's a good idea, but my doctor doesn't allow phones in the examination room :( I'm going to try to delay checking in as long as possible just in case.

The EDD is overbooked and understaffed! They arent going to disqualify you just because THEY missed the window - that would be ridiculous. Just make sure you call them back immediately if you see a missed call from them. The problem is getting through their phone lines...

Truth! I missed my eligibility interview call and spent THREE WEEKS trying to get through to the EDD line. I finally used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) which got me connected to an agent in less than 25 minutes. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km showing how it works. Saved me so much frustration because without talking to an agent, my claim was just sitting there on hold forever.

My interview was 9-11 and they called at 10:58!! Talk about cutting it close.

Here's what you need to know about EDD phone interviews: 1) The timeframe they give you is an ESTIMATE, not a guarantee. They often run behind. 2) If you miss the call, they will attempt to reach you once more within 7 calendar days without rescheduling. 3) If you miss both attempts, they'll make a determination based on available information - which often results in disqualification. 4) If you're disqualified for missing the interview, you'll need to file an appeal within 30 days. My advice: Wait until at least 12:30pm. If you must leave for your doctor's appointment, call the EDD immediately at 1-800-300-5616 and explain your situation. Ask them to note your account. Keep trying to get through even if it's difficult. Also important: Make sure your contact information is up-to-date in your UI Online account!

Thank you for the detailed info! It's now 12:40 and still no call. I'm going to head to my doctor's appointment but will keep trying to reach EDD by phone on the way. This is so stressful because I've been waiting 6 weeks already for benefits.

The interviews almost NEVER happen at the scheduled time!!! EDD is a COMPLETE DISASTER. I had a phone interview scheduled for 2-4pm and they didn't call until 5:30pm!!! And then had the nerve to act like I should be grateful they called at all! The whole system is designed to discourage people from collecting the benefits they're entitled to. And don't even get me started on their website - crashes every other day during certification weekends.

yep!! and if u miss the call they make it impossible to rescedule!! its like they WANT us to fail

Did they ever end up calling you? If not, check your UI Online account regularly. Sometimes they'll make a determination without even conducting the interview if they have enough information already. Also, you might want to check your spam calls - EDD calls sometimes show up as "Unknown" or "No Caller ID".

Update: They finally called at 2:15pm - right in the middle of my appointment! I saw the unknown number but couldn't answer. Left me a voicemail saying they'll try again within 7 days. I tried calling back the number but it just goes to the general EDD line. So frustrating! Will try again tomorrow morning.

When I dealt with this exact situation, I spent hours trying to get through on the regular line with no luck. My claim was about to be disqualified for missing the interview. I ended up using Claimyr (claimyr.com) because someone on Reddit recommended it. Got through to an EDD rep in about 20 minutes who was able to leave notes on my account about the missed interview and reschedule me. Definitely check out their demo: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km if you're struggling to get through.

Thank you! I'm going to try regular EDD lines one more time tomorrow morning, but if that doesn't work, I'll definitely look into that service. I'm so worried about losing benefits over this missed call that wasn't even my fault.

Since they left you a voicemail saying they'll try again within 7 days, you should be okay. But I strongly recommend documenting everything. Write down dates, times, and details of all contact attempts. If possible, try to reach EDD tomorrow to explain why you missed the call and confirm your availability for the next attempt. Keep checking your UI Online account daily for any status changes or new messages. And remember, even if you're disqualified for missing the interview, you can still appeal the decision within 30 days.

Good luck getting through to EDD to "explain" ANYTHING!! I've been trying to reach them for TWO WEEKS about a simple address change and can't get through. The system is BROKEN and they don't care about regular people who just need their benefits!!!

I went through something similar last year! The key thing is don't panic - they really do call within that 7-day window they mentioned in the voicemail. In my experience, they usually try again around the same time of day as the original missed call, so maybe try to keep your schedule lighter around 2-3pm over the next few days. Also, make sure your voicemail greeting is professional and mentions you're expecting an important call from EDD - sometimes that helps them know they have the right person. The fact that they left a voicemail is actually a good sign that your case is still active. Hang in there!

That's really reassuring to hear! I've been so stressed about this whole situation. I'll definitely try to keep my schedule clear around 2-3pm for the next few days and update my voicemail greeting like you suggested. It's good to know that getting a voicemail is actually a positive sign - I was worried they were just going through the motions before denying my claim. Thanks for sharing your experience, it really helps to know I'm not alone in dealing with EDD's unpredictable scheduling!

I've been through this exact situation multiple times with EDD! The fact that they called and left a voicemail saying they'll try again within 7 days is actually really good - it means your case is still active and they're following protocol. A few tips from my experience: 1) They often call around the same time as the missed call, so try to keep 2-3pm free for the next week, 2) Make sure your phone isn't set to auto-reject unknown numbers, 3) Have all your documents ready because when they do call back, they usually want to complete the interview right then and there. The waiting is super stressful but you're not going to lose your benefits over this - they know their scheduling is unpredictable. Just stay available and keep checking your UI Online account for any updates!

This is super helpful advice! I'm definitely going to check my phone settings to make sure unknown numbers aren't being blocked. That's such a good point about having all documents ready - I've been so focused on just getting the call that I hadn't thought about being prepared for the actual interview. Do you remember what specific documents they typically ask for during these eligibility interviews? I want to make sure I have everything organized and ready to go when they call back. The stress of waiting is killing me but it's reassuring to hear from people who've been through this successfully!
