EDD phone interview no-show after waiting 4 hours - what are my next steps?

Hey everyone, I'm freaking out right now. I received a letter from EDD saying I had a phone interview scheduled for today between 1pm-3pm for my unemployment claim. It's almost 5pm now and nobody has called me! I've been glued to my phone all day making sure not to miss it. I've tried calling EDD multiple times but can't get through to anyone (big surprise). Has this happened to anyone else? What should I do? Will they disqualify my claim because they didn't call? Should I keep trying to call them tonight or wait until tomorrow? I really need these benefits to pay rent next month.

This happens more often than you'd think. EDD interviewers get backed up and sometimes don't call until hours after your scheduled window. I had my interview scheduled for 10am-12pm and they didn't call until 4:30pm! Make sure your phone is still on and ready to receive calls through the evening. Document everything - take screenshots of your call attempts and write down times you tried calling them. This documentation will help if they try to penalize you for a "missed interview" later.

Thanks for the reassurance! Should I still be expecting a call tonight though? It's getting late and I'm worried they'll just mark me as a no-show even though I've been waiting by the phone all day. This is so stressful!

THE SAME EXACT THING HAPPENED TO ME LAST MONTH!!! They were supposed to call between 2-4pm and didn't call until THE NEXT DAY at like 11am with no warning!! The system is completely broken and they don't care at all about our time. Make sure your voicemail isn't full and your phone can accept blocked numbers because that's how they call. Keep your phone charged and with you AT ALL TIMES tomorrow too.

Yep, their caller ID shows up as "Private Number" or "No Caller ID" so make sure you're accepting those calls. I missed mine because I thought it was a spam call and now I'm dealing with an appeal. Total nightmare.

EDD is required to make a "reasonable attempt" to contact you during your scheduled interview time, but with current backlogs, they're often running several hours behind schedule. Here's what you should do: 1. Call the regular EDD number tomorrow morning (not tonight) and try to speak with a claims specialist 2. Document that you were available during your scheduled time 3. Check your UI Online account for any updates or rescheduled interview notices 4. If your claim status changes to "disqualified" after this, file an appeal immediately The good news is that even if they mark you as a no-show, you can appeal and explain that you were available but never received a call.

Thank you for the detailed info! I'll definitely call first thing tomorrow morning. My UI Online doesn't show any updates yet. If they disqualify me because of THEIR mistake, I'll definitely appeal.

Right?? I don't think I've ever heard of them actually calling during the scheduled time. My last interviewer actually apologized and said they were assigned way too many calls per day. The whole system is a mess.

Try using Claimyr to get through to EDD tomorrow. After my interview no-show disaster last month, I spent hours trying to reach someone with no luck. My cousin recommended Claimyr (claimyr.com) and I actually got through to a rep in about 20 minutes. They helped me reschedule my interview and explain that I had been available. You can see how it works in their video: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km - saved me literally days of frustration.

I've never heard of this before - does it actually work? I'm desperate at this point so I'll try anything that might help me reach a real person at EDD.

My interview was late by 2 hours but they did eventually call. If they completely missed your interview window today, they should send you a reschedule notice by mail or sometimes through UI Online. Check both daily. I'd still try calling tomorrow morning just to be safe though, even though it's hard to get through.

When I missed my EDD interview (my fault, I was in the shower), they sent the disqualification notice about 5 days later. But they did offer a chance to reschedule if I called within 10 days, so definitely keep trying to reach them!

Ok so I work for a company that deals with EDD claims sometimes and here's what you need to know: the letter you received has a specific phone number listed for the interviewer, right? That's actually who you need to try calling tomorrow - not just the main EDD line. Look at the letter carefully for that direct line. Also check your spam folder for any emails from EDD - sometimes they send rescheduling notices that way too. If you still can't reach anyone by tomorrow afternoon, you might need to go to an EDD office in person as a last resort.

I just double-checked my letter and you're right - there is a different number specifically for the interview that I didn't notice before! I'll try that number first thing tomorrow. Thank you so much for pointing this out!

Any updates? Did they end up calling you later or were you able to reach someone?

Update: They finally called me this morning at 9:30am! The interviewer apologized for the delay and said they had a system crash yesterday that messed up their entire schedule. Interview went well and she said my claim should be processed in 3-5 days. What a relief!
