EDD missed my scheduled phone interview - what should I do now?
I'm so frustrated right now! I had a scheduled eligibility phone interview with EDD today that I've been waiting THREE WEEKS for. My boss was super understanding and said I could step away to take the call during work hours. I literally kept my phone in my pocket all day, checking it constantly, never put it on silent, and made sure I had good reception. Guess what? No call from EDD. Nothing. They're definitely closed now, and I have no idea what to do. Will they disqualify my claim? Do I have to wait another three weeks for a new appointment? Has this happened to anyone else? I'm already behind on rent and can't afford more delays!

This happens more often than you'd think. When EDD misses a scheduled phone interview, you need to contact them ASAP tomorrow morning. The system should automatically reschedule you, but I'd recommend calling to confirm rather than waiting for mail notification. Also check your UI Online account - sometimes they'll add interview notes there even if they didn't call you.

•Thanks for responding. Does this mean my benefits will be delayed even longer? I've already been waiting for over a month since I first filed!

omg same thing happened 2 me last month! waited all day and nothing. had to call like 50 times next morning. finally got thru and they said the interviewer was out sick but nobody bothered to tell me or reschedule. so annoying!

•I've had this happen twice! The EDD phone system is completely broken. They expect us to answer their calls within 30 seconds but then don't even show up for THEIR OWN scheduled interviews. The first time they told me it was because they were "overbooked" and the second time they blamed a "system error." RIDICULOUS.

Check ur spam folder maybe??? They sometimes call from weird numbers that don't look like EDD

•These are phone interviews, not emails, so no spam folder involved. But you're right that they call from different numbers - I literally answered EVERY call today just to be safe!

Call the main EDD number (1-800-300-5616) first thing tomorrow morning at 8:00 AM sharp. Explain that you had a scheduled eligibility interview that was missed by the interviewer. Request they document this in your claim notes and ask for immediate rescheduling. If they say you'll have to wait weeks for a new appointment, politely ask to speak with a tier 2 specialist who has more authority to expedite interviews. Also, check your UI Online inbox tonight and tomorrow morning. Sometimes they send notifications about rescheduled interviews there before calling. Most importantly, don't panic about disqualification. As long as you make a good faith effort to contact them about the missed interview, they won't penalize your claim - this is their error, not yours.

•Thank you for the detailed advice! I'll definitely call right at 8am. I'm just worried about actually getting through. Last time I tried calling EDD, I got the dreaded "we're experiencing high call volume" message for three days straight before giving up.

After spending weeks trying to reach EDD about my missed interview, I finally tried Claimyr and it actually worked! Their service connects you directly to an EDD rep without the typical wait. Their site (claimyr.com) has a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km I was skeptical but managed to reach a rep in about 25 minutes who rescheduled my interview for two days later instead of waiting another 3 weeks. Definitely worth checking out if you keep hitting the call volume wall.

•I've never heard of this service before. Does it really work? I'm desperate at this point so I'll try anything that helps me talk to a real person.

•Yes, it actually works! It basically keeps dialing for you until it gets through. Once I was connected, I explained about my missed interview and they rescheduled me faster than I expected. Saved me tons of stress and time.

Something similar happened with my disability claim (not unemployment), but I think the process might be similar. You should document EVERYTHING. Write down exactly what happened, when you were available, and how you tried to contact them afterwards. If they try to hold this against you for "failure to participate" in the interview, you'll have evidence it was their mistake. btw, you might also wanna make sure you didn't miss any messages or emails about a reschedule. They changed my interview time without clearly notifying me and then tried to blame me for missing it. The whole system seems designed to frustrate people until they give up on their benefits.

•That's a really good point about documentation. I'll write everything down right now while it's fresh in my mind. And I double checked all my emails and UI Online messages - definitely no reschedule notices.

my cousin works for edd and says theyve been having major staffing issues this year. interviews get rescheduled all the time but the system doesnt always notify people. if u call be super nice bc the reps r overworked and more likely to help if ur not yelling at them

•This is really good advice. Being polite to the representatives makes a huge difference in how willing they are to go the extra mile for your claim. They deal with angry people all day, so a calm, friendly approach stands out.

UPDATE: I got through to EDD this morning! Used the Claimyr service that someone recommended here and it actually worked - got connected to a live person in about 30 minutes. The rep was super apologetic and said there was a system error that affected several interviews yesterday. She rescheduled my interview for TOMORROW instead of making me wait another 3 weeks! She also noted in my file that the missed interview was EDD's fault, not mine. HUGE relief. Thanks everyone for your advice!

•Great news! Make sure you're fully prepared for tomorrow's interview. Have all your employment separation documents ready, be clear about your last day worked, and have your earnings information handy. Being organized will help things go smoothly. Good luck!

Why do we have to jump through so many hoops just to get OUR money that WE paid into the system? The EDD is a disaster and has been for years. Missing interviews, lost paperwork, random disqualifications... it's like they're TRYING to make it impossible to collect benefits. I spent 7 weeks fighting with them over a similar issue in February and almost lost my apartment waiting for them to fix THEIR mistake. The whole system needs to be rebuilt from scratch. I've worked and paid taxes for 24 YEARS and this is how they treat us when we need help?

•While I understand your frustration, it's important to remember that UI benefits are primarily funded by employer taxes, not employee contributions (except in a few states with minimal employee contributions). That said, I agree the system needs significant improvements to better serve claimants during difficult times.
