EDD interview no-show - scheduled 1-3pm but no call by 3pm, appointment still showing online

I'm freaking out right now. Had my eligibility interview scheduled today between 1-3pm. I made sure my phone was fully charged, good reception, ringer on full volume. Sat by my phone for the entire 2 hours and NOTHING. No call, no voicemail, nothing. It's now 3:15pm and my UI Online account still shows the appointment for today at 1-3pm but with no updates. Is this normal? Do EDD claims specialists ever call outside their scheduled window? Should I be calling them? I'm worried that if I miss their call somehow, my claim will get denied automatically. Already been waiting 3 weeks since filing and my rent is due next week. Anyone dealt with this before?

The SAME EXACT THING happened to me in February!!! I waited for 2 hours and no call. Then they called me at like 5:30pm, 2.5 hours after the window. I missed it cause I'd given up waiting. So definitely keep your phone on you for the rest of the day!

Seriously?? 5:30pm? Ugh, that's so frustrating. Did you miss out on benefits because you missed the call?

This happens frequently, especially if they're backed up with interviews that day. In my experience working with many claimants, EDD specialists sometimes call up to 24-48 hours after the scheduled time. Keep your phone available, but also check your UI Online account for updates. If they attempted to call and couldn't reach you, they'll usually note it in your account. The best approach is to continue checking your portal for any status changes and keep your phone handy for the next couple of days.

Thank you for this info! So relieved to hear it's not just me. Do you think I should try calling them tomorrow if I don't hear anything by then?

Call them right now!!! If you don't get someone on the phone your claim could be denied for "failure to participate" in the interview. They pulled this on my cousin and she had to appeal for 2 months before getting paid!

This is incorrect information. EDD will not deny your claim simply because they didn't call you during the scheduled window. If they miss the appointment, they will either reschedule or make a determination based on available information. The responsibility to initiate the interview is on EDD, not the claimant.

Wow, 9am the next day? That's so random. I'll make sure to keep my phone on me constantly then!

After dealing with EDD for months during my unemployment period, I finally figured out that getting through to an actual representative makes ALL the difference. I was in a similar situation with a missed interview that never happened. I tried calling for days - busy signals, disconnects, the whole nightmare. Finally used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to a rep in less than 20 minutes. They have this auto-dialer that keeps trying until it gets through. Showed exactly how it works in their video: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. The rep was able to see that my interview was flagged as "interviewer unavailable" and they rescheduled me for the next day. Saved me weeks of anxiety!

Is that service legit? Never heard of it before but getting through to EDD is literally IMPOSSIBLE these days!

3 times?? That's ridiculous! How long did it take from your first scheduled interview until you finally had one?

This is actually quite common with EDD eligibility interviews. Their scheduling system books interviews, but their daily call volume often pushes them behind schedule. Here's what you should do: 1. Keep your phone available for at least 48 hours after the scheduled window. 2. Check your UI Online account regularly for status updates. 3. Look for any messages in your UI Online inbox. 4. If you haven't heard anything by the end of the next business day, you can try calling, but be aware it may be difficult to get through. If they miss the interview completely, they will typically make a determination based on available information, or they'll reschedule and send you a notification. The important thing is that you were available during the scheduled time - you've done your part. Document that you were available (take screenshots of your phone showing no missed calls during that time frame) just in case you need it for an appeal.

Thank you for such a detailed response! This is really helpful. I'll take screenshots right now showing I had no missed calls during that time. Really hope they just call tomorrow instead of denying me.

UPDATE: They just called me at 4:35pm, a full 1.5 hours after the window ended! The interviewer apologized and said they're behind schedule today. Everything went fine and my claim was approved right on the phone. So don't give up hope - they might still call today!

OMG THEY JUST CALLED ME TOO!!! It's 4:45pm now and I just finished the interview. The lady was super nice and said they're running behind today. My claim is approved too! Such a relief after all that stress waiting. Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions!
