EDD missed their scheduled eligibility phone interview - what do I do now?

Has anyone dealt with EDD scheduling an eligibility interview and then NOT calling? They sent me a letter saying I needed to be available between 1-3pm today for an eligibility determination call. I rearranged my whole work schedule (I'm only working part-time right now), made sure my phone was charged, had good reception, even had all my documents ready... and nothing. No call. Not even a missed call notification. It's now 4:30pm and I'm stressing out because I don't know if this means my claim will be automatically denied or what. Do I need to call them? Will they reschedule? I'm already behind on rent and really need this weeks payment to process. Anyone been through this before?

this happened to me TWICE last month!!! so frustrating. u need to call them asap tomorrow morning. they might have tried calling from a blocked number tho, did u answer ALL calls? sometimes they mark it as "attempted contact" even if they dont actually leave a voicemail

I didn't get ANY calls during that time slot. I literally sat staring at my phone for 2 hours. Do you know what number I should call? The regular customer service one?

they did the same thing to me but turns out my phone number was wrong on my account by ONE digit... check ur contact info in UI Online just to be sure

Just checked and my phone number is definitely correct in the system. I've been getting their text notifications fine too, so I know they have the right number.

This is unfortunately very common with EDD. When an interview is missed (regardless of whose fault), your claim typically remains on hold until you can reach someone to reschedule. You have a few options: 1. Call the main EDD number at 1-800-300-5616 as early as possible (8am) 2. Use your UI Online account to send a message through the Contact EDD section explaining what happened 3. If you received the interview notice via mail, there should be a specific phone number for the determination interviewer - try that number The key is documenting your attempts to contact them. Make notes of dates, times, and reference numbers of any calls. When you do reach someone, ask them to note in your file that you were available during the scheduled time but did not receive a call. Your claim won't be automatically denied, but it will likely remain "pending" until you can get the interview rescheduled and completed.

Thank you for the detailed info! The letter doesn't have a specific number for the interviewer, just the general EDD number. I'll try calling tomorrow morning right at 8am and also send a message through UI Online tonight. Do you know how long it typically takes to get rescheduled? I'm really worried about how long my payments will be delayed.

I've heard from many people that EDD often misses these interview appointments. Check your UI Online dashboard too - sometimes they actually clear your eligibility issue without the interview (happened to me), but they don't tell you. Worth checking before spending hours trying to call.

Just checked my UI Online and the eligibility issue is still showing as "pending" with no update. Guess I'm definitely going to have to call then.

Dealing with EDD phone lines is absolutely maddening. After my missed interview last year, I spent 3 WEEKS trying to get through on the phone lines before I found Claimyr (claimyr.com). It's a service that helps you bypass the EDD phone system and actually get connected to a real person. They have a video demo here: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km Normally I don't recommend paid services but after being hung up on 20+ times by EDD's automated system saying "we're experiencing high call volume," it was completely worth it to get my issue resolved in one day. The rep I spoke with was able to reschedule my interview for the same week.

is that service legit?? seems sketchy to me. how does it even work? i need to talk to EDD about my disqualification but cant get thru either

It worked for me. Basically they use an automated system to dial EDD repeatedly until they get through, then they call you and connect you. The best part was I didn't have to sit there hitting redial for hours. I just got a call when they had an EDD rep on the line.

The EXACT same thing happened to me in February! I waited for 2 hours and no call, then my payments were stuck pending for weeks. When I finally got through to EDD, the representative told me that sometimes interviews get "de-prioritized" if they have staff shortages that day. They don't even bother to tell you or reschedule automatically! Here's what worked for me: 1. Call exactly at 8:01am (NOT 8:00 - everyone calls then and the system crashes) 2. Press 1 for English (or whatever language you need) 3. Then press 2-4-1 in sequence to get to the claim questions department 4. If you get the "too many callers" message, hang up and try again It took me 23 attempts over 2 days, but I finally got through. The rep rescheduled my interview for the next day and released my pending payments within 48 hours after the new interview. DON'T wait for them to contact you - they won't!

Thank you for the detailed call instructions! I'll definitely try this approach tomorrow. It's so frustrating that they don't even notify you when they skip your interview. Did you have to provide any special explanation or documentation when you finally had your rescheduled interview?

Just have all the same documents ready that you were supposed to have for the original interview. For me, it was proof of my employment dates and final paycheck. The interview itself only took about 10 minutes once I actually got through. The EDD rep was actually pretty understanding about the whole situation - apparently it happens all the time.

Lol EDD is a JOKE. They did this to me 3 TIMES IN A ROW!!! Scheduled interviews, nobody called, payments pending for 2 months!!! I finally drove to an actual EDD office and demanded help. System is completely broken.

The one in Sacramento on Broadway is open now for appointments only. You have to schedule on the website. Still better than phone calls that never happen!!!

Quick update for everyone - EDD has actually acknowledged this is a problem in their latest press release. They're currently running about 30% understaffed in the determinations department, which handles eligibility interviews. They claim they're hiring more staff, but in the meantime, they recommend: 1. Always send a follow-up message through UI Online if your interview is missed 2. Keep certifying for benefits while waiting for resolution 3. Check for status updates in your UI Online inbox daily 4. If your financial situation is dire, request an expedited interview when you call (must provide proof of imminent eviction, utility shutoff, etc.) They're supposed to prioritize rescheduling missed interviews within 5 business days, but it can take longer depending on your specific eligibility issue.

Thank you for this information! I definitely qualify for an expedited interview since I have an eviction warning notice from my landlord. I'll be sure to mention that when I call. I really appreciate everyone's help!

I'm going through something similar right now! EDD scheduled my eligibility interview for last Tuesday and never called. I've been trying to reach them for three days straight with no luck. The automated system just keeps hanging up on me after saying "we're experiencing high call volume." What's really frustrating is that I can see in my UI Online account that my claim status changed to "Interview Required" but there's no way to reschedule or get more information online. I've also sent two messages through the Contact EDD portal but haven't heard back. Has anyone had success getting through using the call tips mentioned here? I'm going to try the 8:01am strategy tomorrow with the 2-4-1 sequence. This whole situation is causing me so much stress - I have bills due and my savings are almost gone. Also @Miguel, definitely mention that eviction notice when you call! From what I've read, they do prioritize urgent financial hardship cases.

@Connor, I'm so sorry you're dealing with this too! It's absolutely ridiculous that this is such a widespread problem. I tried calling this morning using the tips from @Amina and actually got through on my 15th attempt! The key really was calling at 8:01am and using the 2-4-1 sequence. The rep I spoke with was able to reschedule my interview for tomorrow afternoon and said they've been getting hundreds of complaints about missed interviews. She also mentioned that if you have any kind of financial hardship documentation (eviction notices, utility shutoff warnings, etc.), they can mark your case as urgent which moves you up in the queue. Keep trying with those call tips - it's frustrating but it does work eventually. And definitely keep sending those UI Online messages too because they use those as documentation that you've been trying to reach them. Good luck!

This is such a common issue unfortunately! I went through the exact same thing about 6 weeks ago - sat by my phone for the entire 2-hour window they gave me and never got a call. What made it worse was that my UI Online account actually showed the interview as "completed" the next day, but my payments were still stuck on pending. Here's what I learned from my experience: - Call the 1-800-300-5616 number but try different times throughout the day, not just first thing in the morning - When you do get through, ask the rep to add detailed notes to your file about being available during the scheduled time - Request that they email you confirmation of your new interview time (some reps will do this) - Keep screenshots of your UI Online account showing the pending status in case you need proof later It took me about 10 days to get rescheduled, but once I had the actual interview it only lasted maybe 8 minutes and my payments were released within 24 hours. The waiting is the worst part but don't give up! And definitely mention that eviction situation when you call - they do seem to prioritize those cases. Hang in there Miguel, you'll get through this!

@Isaac thank you so much for sharing your experience! It's both reassuring and frustrating to know this is happening to so many people. I'm definitely going to take screenshots of everything like you suggested - that's a great tip I hadn't thought of. Did you end up getting backpay for all the weeks that were stuck pending? I'm worried they might try to say I wasn't eligible for some of the time period even though it was their mistake for missing the original interview.

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this Miguel! This exact same thing happened to me last month - EDD scheduled an interview for 10am-12pm and never called. I was literally sitting next to my phone the entire time with all my documents ready, just like you. What worked for me was calling the main number (1-800-300-5616) right at 8:00am the next day and getting transferred to the determinations department. It took about 18 tries to get through, but once I did, the rep was actually very understanding. She told me this has been happening A LOT lately due to staffing shortages and that my case would be marked as "EDD no-show" rather than me missing the appointment. They rescheduled me for 3 days later and the actual interview only took about 12 minutes. My payments were released the same day! The key is to keep calling until you get through and make sure they document that you were available during your scheduled time. Also, since you mentioned being behind on rent, definitely tell them about your financial hardship when you call - they can expedite your case. Don't lose hope, you'll get this sorted out!

@Maggie thank you for sharing that! It's really helpful to know that they actually mark these as "EDD no-show" rather than blaming us for missing the appointment. That makes me feel a lot better about the situation. I'm definitely going to mention my financial hardship when I call tomorrow morning. Did you have to provide any proof of your hardship situation, or was it enough to just mention it verbally during the call? I have the eviction notice but wasn't sure if I'd need to submit it somewhere or if telling them about it would be sufficient to get the expedited treatment.
