EDD eligibility interview no-show - they didn't call during scheduled window
I'm totally stressed right now. EDD scheduled my eligibility interview for today between 3:00-5:00 PM, but nobody called! I waited by my phone the entire time, made sure it was charged, had good reception, and even turned off my spam blocker just in case. It's now 5:30 and still nothing. This is my first time filing for unemployment after getting laid off from my marketing job last month, and I really need these benefits to start coming through soon. My rent is due next week and I'm down to my last $300. Has anyone else had EDD miss their scheduled interview window? What should I do now? Do I have to reschedule and wait another 3 weeks?

This happened to me in January! Super frustrating when you block out 2 hours of your day and then... nothing. Call them first thing tomorrow morning. It might just be that they're running behind schedule - my interviewer ended up calling me the next day without any notification. If they don't call by tomorrow afternoon, try using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an EDD rep faster. I wasted 3 days trying to call on my own before using their service. They helped me get through to an agent who scheduled a new interview for the following week. They have a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km

•Thank you! I'll try calling tomorrow morning, but I'm not hopeful about getting through 😞 I've heard horror stories about the wait times. I might check out that Claimyr thing if I can't get through. Did you have to wait another full 3 weeks for your rescheduled interview?

•That's a relief to hear! Did you do anything special while waiting? Like try to call them or submit anything through UI Online?

When an EDD eligibility interview doesn't occur during the scheduled window, it's typically due to one of three things: 1) The interviewer is running behind schedule, 2) There was a technical issue on their end, or 3) There was a data entry error with your phone number. Here's what you should do: 1. Check your UI Online account for any messages or updates 2. Wait one more business day to see if they call (they often run behind) 3. Call the EDD customer service line at 1-800-300-5616 if you don't hear from them by tomorrow afternoon 4. Be sure to keep certifying for benefits while waiting for the interview resolution EDD is required to make a determination on your claim even if they miss the interview. Sometimes they'll approve your benefits without the interview if they have enough information already. Keep an eye on your claim status in UI Online.

•I think you're mixing up certerfication and eligibility. They don't approve you without the eligability interveiw because thats how they determine if your ELIGABLE for the benefits in the first place!!!! The interview is REQUIRED before any payments. I had this happen and had to wait 5 weeks for another interview slot!!!! The system is a joke.

I've navigated this exact situation helping numerous clients with their EDD claims. Here's exactly what you need to do: 1. First, check your spam/junk folder for any emails from EDD. They sometimes send a notification if interviews are rescheduled. 2. Log into UI Online and check your inbox there - sometimes they'll send a message explaining the delay. 3. If nothing by tomorrow morning, you MUST call EDD at 1-800-300-5616. The best time to call is right when they open at 8:00 AM. 4. When you reach a representative, explain that you had a scheduled eligibility interview that was missed by EDD. Ask them to check the notes on your account and see if there's a reschedule date or if they can transfer you to an interviewer. 5. Very important: request that they make a note on your account that YOU were available during the scheduled window but EDD did not call. This protects you from being marked as "unavailable" for your interview. Don't stress too much - this is unfortunately common, especially at quarter's end when their workload increases. In most cases, you'll get a call within 48 hours of the original window.

•Thank you for such a detailed response! I checked UI Online and there's nothing new there. I'll definitely try calling first thing tomorrow morning. Do you think this will delay my payments even though it wasn't my fault they didn't call?

•I triple-checked the number in my account and it's definitely correct. I even received their text confirmation about the interview yesterday. My phone was working fine all day - I made and received other calls during that time window. Just nothing from EDD 😕

THE SAME EXACT THING HAPPENED TO ME!!!! I waited for 2 HOURS and nobody called!!! I tried calling them back and got the "we're experiencing high call volume" message for THREE DAYS STRAIGHT!!!! This system is BROKEN and they don't care about us at all!!!! I finally got through after literally 26 attempts and they said "oops our interviewer was out sick" - like they couldn't bother to let me know???? I had to take time off work to wait for that call!!! They rescheduled me but I had to wait another 2.5 weeks!!! Criminal!!!!

•Oh no, that's exactly what I'm afraid of! I can't wait another 2-3 weeks for this interview. Did they backdate your payments once you finally had the interview?

Update on my earlier comment - when this happened to me in January, I didn't get a call the next day either. That's when I used Claimyr to get through to EDD. The rep explained that they had staffing shortages and were prioritizing interviews based on claim filing dates. They ended up waiving my interview entirely and just processed my claim based on the documentation I'd already submitted. So there's hope they might do the same for you!

Quick update based on my experience this month - EDD is currently experiencing significant backlogs with eligibility interviews. Several of my clients have had interviews delayed by 1-2 days without notification. The good news is that most are still getting their benefits approved without extended delays once the interview actually happens. One important tip: if you do call tomorrow, specifically ask the representative if they can see the "interview disposition" in your file. If it says "pending reschedule" then you need to push for a specific date. If it says "pending review" then the interviewer may be making a determination without needing to speak with you further.

•Thank you for this update! That's really helpful info. I'll definitely ask about the "interview disposition" when I call. Fingers crossed it's "pending review" and they can just approve it without another interview!

This exact thing happened to me back in September! I was so panicked when they didn't call during my 2-4 PM window. I ended up calling the next morning around 8:15 AM and got through after about 45 minutes on hold. The rep told me their interviewer had called in sick that day and they were behind on rescheduling notifications. She was actually really helpful and got me connected to an available interviewer right then and there - did my eligibility interview over the phone on the spot! The whole thing took maybe 15 minutes and she approved my claim immediately. So definitely try calling first thing tomorrow morning. Sometimes you get lucky and they can just handle it right away instead of making you wait weeks for another appointment. Keep your documents handy just in case they can squeeze you in! And don't worry about your benefits being delayed - mine were backdated to my original filing date even though my interview was a day late.

I'm so sorry this happened to you! I know exactly how stressful this is, especially when you're already dealing with financial pressure. I went through something similar last year - EDD scheduled my interview for a Tuesday afternoon and never called. I was a nervous wreck thinking I'd somehow messed up my claim. Here's what worked for me: I called the 1-800-300-5616 number at exactly 8:00 AM the next morning. It took about an hour to get through, but the rep was actually understanding about the situation. She explained that they've had issues with their scheduling system and some interviews were falling through the cracks. She was able to see in my file that I was marked as "available" during my window, which protected me from any penalties. The best part? She connected me directly to an interviewer who was available right then. We did the whole eligibility interview over the phone - took about 20 minutes. Questions were pretty straightforward: why I left my job, am I actively looking for work, am I available to work, etc. She approved my claim on the spot and my benefits were backdated to my original filing date. Don't lose hope! This happens more often than you'd think, and it usually gets resolved quickly once you get the right person on the phone. Make sure you have your separation paperwork ready when you call tomorrow just in case they can do your interview immediately. You've got this!

Hey Ethan! I totally feel your frustration - this happened to me too about 6 months ago. EDD scheduled my interview for 1-3 PM and I literally sat by my phone the entire time, even had my husband call me during the window to make sure it was working properly. Nothing! I was panicking because I really needed those benefits to come through. Here's what I did that worked: I called the EDD line at 1-800-300-5616 at exactly 8:00 AM the next morning. It took about 90 minutes to get through (I used the redial trick where you hang up and call back immediately if you get the busy signal). When I finally got a rep, I explained that I had a scheduled interview that EDD missed. She was actually really apologetic and said their system had been having issues with interview scheduling. The best part? She was able to connect me to an interviewer right away who did my eligibility interview over the phone immediately - took about 25 minutes total. The questions were pretty standard: reason for job separation, availability to work, job search efforts, etc. She approved my claim on the spot and my benefits were backdated to my original filing date. So even though the interview was a day late, I didn't lose any money. Don't stress too much! This is unfortunately common but it usually gets resolved quickly. Just make sure to call first thing tomorrow morning and have all your paperwork ready. You might get lucky like I did and they can just handle it right away instead of making you wait weeks for another appointment. Hang in there! 💪

I went through this exact same situation just last month! EDD scheduled my eligibility interview for a 2-4 PM window and never called. I was so stressed because I really needed those benefits to start flowing. Here's what I did that worked: I called EDD at 1-800-300-5616 right when they opened at 8:00 AM the next morning. It took about an hour and 15 minutes to get through, but I kept redialing whenever I got the busy signal. When I finally reached a representative, I explained that EDD had missed my scheduled interview window and that I was available the entire time. The rep was actually very understanding and said this has been happening frequently due to staffing issues. She checked my account and could see that I was marked as "present" during my scheduled window, which was important for avoiding any penalties. Then she asked if I had time right then to do the interview over the phone - I said absolutely! The interviewer she connected me to was really professional and the whole thing took about 20 minutes. Standard questions about why I left my job, my availability to work, job search efforts, etc. She approved my claim immediately and all my benefits were backdated to my original filing date. So don't panic! This is unfortunately common but usually gets resolved quickly. Call first thing tomorrow morning with all your paperwork ready - you might get lucky and they can handle your interview right away. The key is calling early and being persistent with the redialing. You've got this!

I'm so sorry you're going through this stress, especially with rent due next week! This exact same thing happened to my sister in February - EDD scheduled her interview for 11 AM-1 PM and never called. She was freaking out just like you are now. Here's what worked for her: She called the EDD number (1-800-300-5616) at exactly 8:00 AM the next morning and used the rapid redial method - if she got a busy signal, she'd immediately hang up and call back. It took her about 75 minutes but she finally got through to a really helpful rep. The rep explained that their interview scheduling system had been glitching and some appointments were getting lost in the system. The good news? She could see that my sister was marked as "available" during her scheduled window, so there was no penalty. Even better - the rep was able to connect her directly to an interviewer who did the eligibility interview right then over the phone! The whole interview took maybe 15-20 minutes with basic questions about job separation, work availability, and job search activities. They approved her claim immediately and backdated all her benefits to the original filing date. She didn't lose a single penny even though EDD missed the original appointment. Don't lose hope! Keep all your paperwork handy when you call tomorrow morning - your separation notice, any job search records, etc. There's a really good chance they can just handle your interview immediately instead of making you wait weeks for a reschedule. You've got this! 💪

This happened to me too back in October! I was scheduled for a 10 AM-12 PM window and sat by my phone the whole time - nothing. I was so anxious because I'd already been waiting 3 weeks for that interview slot. I called EDD at 1-800-300-5616 the next morning right at 8:00 AM sharp. The trick is to keep hitting redial immediately if you get a busy signal - don't wait between attempts. It took me about 50 minutes but I finally got through to a rep who was actually really helpful. She told me that some interviews were getting "lost" in their system due to a software update they'd done the week before. The important thing was that she could see I was marked as "present and available" during my scheduled time, so I wouldn't face any penalties. Then she asked if I wanted to do the interview right then over the phone - absolutely yes! The interviewer was super professional and the whole thing took about 18 minutes. Standard questions about my job separation (I was laid off due to company downsizing), my availability to work full-time, and what job search activities I'd been doing. She approved my claim immediately and said my benefits would be backdated to my original filing date. My first payment actually showed up 3 days later! So even though EDD messed up the scheduling, everything worked out and I didn't lose any money. Don't stress too much - just call first thing tomorrow morning with your paperwork ready and you'll likely get this resolved quickly. The early morning seems to be the sweet spot for getting through to someone who can actually help!
