EDD interview no-show - they scheduled 8-10am window but never called!

Super frustrated right now! I had my EDD eligibility interview scheduled for today between 8am-10am. I took off work (which I REALLY couldn't afford to do), made sure my phone was charged, had good reception, and sat by my phone the ENTIRE two hours. No call. Nothing. Not even a missed call or voicemail. This was for my regular UI claim that's been pending for almost 3 weeks now. The online portal still shows the interview as "scheduled" for today's date. I'm seriously stressing since my rent is due next week and I've been counting on this payment. Has anyone dealt with this before? Do I just wait and hope they reschedule? Try to call them? I've already tried calling 3 times today and couldn't get through...

This happens ALL THE TIME. EDD is literaly the worst. I had 2 interviews missed by them last year and my claim was stuck for almost 6 weeks!! The ONLY way to fix it is to actually reach them on the phone which is basically impossible with their garbage system. You'll call 50+ times and get hung up on automatically because "too many callers" or whatever. Total joke.

Omg 6 weeks?? I can't wait that long. Did you ever find out why they missed the interviews?

0 coins

Nope they never explained. Just kept saying "we're experiencing high call volumes" like that's some kind of excuse for missing SCHEDULED interviews 🙄

This actually happened to me back in March. What I learned is that their caller ID often shows as "Unknown" or "No Caller ID" so make sure you're accepting those calls during your window. Another possibility is that they have the wrong phone number on file. Here's what I recommend: 1. Check your contact info is correct in UI Online 2. Call the EDD main line at 1-800-300-5616 first thing tomorrow morning at 8:00am sharp 3. If you can't get through, sometimes calling the technical support line and explaining the situation helps - they can transfer you 4. Check your EDD inbox for any messages about rescheduling They should automatically reschedule you, but it's better to be proactive if you can actually reach someone.

Thanks for the advice. I double-checked and I definitely had my phone set to accept unknown callers, and my number is correct in the system. I'll try calling right at 8am tomorrow - hopefully I can get through!

I tried Claimyr last month when I was in a similar situation (interview no-show). It got me through to an EDD rep in about 20 minutes when I'd spent 3 days trying on my own with no luck. Costs a bit but saved me weeks of waiting. Their site is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km The rep told me that sometimes interviews get rescheduled internally but the notification doesn't reach the claimant. So frustrating!

I've never heard of Claimyr before. I'll check it out if I can't get through tomorrow morning. At this point I'm desperate enough to try anything.

I am an unemployment specialist, and I can tell you that unfortunately, missed interviews are common due to staffing shortages at EDD. However, there is a specific protocol that should happen automatically: 1. Your interview should be automatically rescheduled within 48-72 hours 2. You should receive notification of the new interview date via your preferred contact method 3. Your claim status should update to reflect the rescheduling If none of these happen within 3 business days, you need to contact EDD. Missing the interview should not automatically disqualify you, especially if the interviewer failed to call. Be sure to continue certifying for benefits while you wait for the rescheduled interview, as you'll be paid retroactively once your eligibility is confirmed.

This is incredibly helpful information, thank you! I'll keep certifying and wait for the automatic reschedule. If I don't hear anything by Thursday, I'll make calling them my top priority.

You're welcome! One more tip: when you do speak with a representative, ask them to document in your file that you were available for the scheduled interview. This creates a record in case there are any disputes later about your availability.

my interview was missed to. u wont get paid until the interview is completed or they decide u dont need 1. dont just wait for them 2 reschedule cuz sometimes they dont!!!!! i waited 4 WEEKS before i finally got thru on the phone. the WORST part??? the lady told me my interview was actually canceled but nobody updated the system or told me!!! i could have been paid 4 weeks earlier if i had known!!!

That's awful! I definitely don't want to wait 4 weeks only to find out they canceled it. I'll start calling tomorrow for sure.

Has anyone else noticed they do this more often at the end of the month? My theory is they're trying to meet some quotas so they overbook interviews they know they can't complete.

omg ive noticed this too! both times they missed my interviews were end of month!! never connected those dots before

Just to clarify something that might help others - there are two types of eligibility interviews: initial claim interviews and issue-specific interviews. Initial claim interviews are higher priority and more likely to be conducted on schedule. Issue-specific interviews (for things like job separation disputes) are more commonly rescheduled when EDD is understaffed. If your interview was for your initial claim, definitely call tomorrow - don't wait for automatic rescheduling.

Mine was an initial claim interview, so based on what you're saying, I should definitely call tomorrow. Thank you for that clarification!

Good news: I checked the EDD operational memo from last week, and they've implemented a new policy where if an interview is missed by the interviewer, they must attempt to call back within 24 hours. If they're unable to reach you on the callback, only then will they reschedule for a later date. So there's a chance you might receive a call tomorrow without having to do anything. However, I would still recommend calling if you don't hear from them by noon tomorrow.

That's great to know! I'll keep my phone handy all day tomorrow just in case they try to call. Fingers crossed!

UPDATE: Just checked my UI Online and my claim status changed from "pending" to "paid" even though I never had the interview! Maybe check yours to see if anything changed?

Just checked mine - still showing pending unfortunately. But that gives me hope that maybe they'll process it without the interview!

Just wanted to add - sometimes they determine they don't need the interview after all and process your claim anyway. This happens if the issue that triggered the interview requirement gets resolved through other verification methods. Check your claim status frequently!

That would be amazing if that happened! I'll keep checking my portal throughout the day. Thanks for the ray of hope!

I'm so sorry this happened to you! I'm dealing with a similar situation right now - had my interview scheduled for last Tuesday and they never called. It's incredibly stressful when you're counting on that money. One thing I learned from calling around is that you should also check if there are any messages in your UI Online inbox - sometimes they send last-minute reschedule notifications there instead of calling. Also, if you have a local assembly member's office, they sometimes have EDD liaisons who can help escalate cases like this. The waiting is the worst part when bills are due. Hang in there and definitely try calling first thing tomorrow morning like others suggested. The earlier you call, the better chance you have of getting through before their lines get jammed.

Thank you so much for the support and suggestions! I hadn't thought about checking with my assembly member's office - that's a really good idea if I can't get through to EDD directly. I just checked my UI Online inbox and there weren't any messages about rescheduling, which is frustrating but at least I know they didn't try to notify me that way. I'm definitely going to try calling right at 8am tomorrow and hopefully catch them before the lines get too busy. It's reassuring to know I'm not the only one dealing with this mess, even though I'm sorry you're going through it too. Fingers crossed we both get this sorted out soon!

I went through this exact same thing last month and it's absolutely infuriating! The stress of waiting by the phone for hours just to have them not call is unreal, especially when you're already dealing with financial pressure. Here's what worked for me: I called the 1-800-300-5616 number at exactly 8:00 AM the next day and kept redialing until I got through (took about 45 minutes of constant calling). When I finally reached someone, I explained that they missed my scheduled interview and the rep was actually pretty understanding. She rescheduled me for the same week and made a note in my file that the missed interview wasn't my fault. The rep also told me something interesting - apparently their phone system has been having issues where sometimes the calls don't connect properly on their end, even though it shows as "called" in their system. So frustrating that we're the ones who suffer for their technical problems! Don't give up hope - most people I know who had missed interviews got rescheduled within a few days and received their back pay once everything was sorted out. Just stay persistent with calling them!

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! It's really helpful to know that you got through after 45 minutes of calling - that gives me hope that it's actually possible even though it sounds exhausting. I'm glad the rep was understanding and made a note in your file. The phone system issues you mentioned make so much sense and explain why this seems to happen to so many people. I'm definitely going to start calling right at 8am tomorrow and just keep redialing until I get through. It's reassuring to hear that you and others got your back pay once everything was resolved. Thanks for the encouragement - I really needed to hear that!

I'm so sorry you're going through this! This happened to me about two months ago and I know exactly how frustrating and stressful it is, especially when you're depending on that money for rent and bills. What I discovered when this happened to me is that EDD has been having major staffing issues, and sometimes the interviewers are juggling way more cases than they can handle. In my case, I found out later that my interviewer had called in sick that day but nobody updated the system or notified the claimants. Here's what I wish someone had told me: Don't just wait for them to reschedule automatically. I made that mistake and waited almost two weeks before taking action. Call the main line first thing tomorrow at 8am sharp and keep redialing. It's annoying but it works better than calling later in the day when the lines are completely jammed. Also, when you do get through, ask them to check if there were any technical issues with your scheduled interview time. Sometimes they can see in their system if the call failed on their end, which helps document that it wasn't your fault. One more tip - make sure you continue certifying for your weekly benefits while you wait. You'll get all the back pay once the interview is completed and your claim is approved. Hang in there! I know it's incredibly stressful when rent is due, but most people do get this resolved within a week or two once they make contact with EDD.

Thank you so much for all this detailed advice! I had no idea about the staffing issues and interviewers calling in sick without updating the system - that actually makes me feel a bit better knowing it's not necessarily something I did wrong. I really appreciate the tip about asking them to check for technical issues when I do get through, that's smart thinking to get it documented on their end. I've been continuing to certify like you suggested, so hopefully that will help with the back pay situation. It's so reassuring to hear from people like you who have been through this and came out the other side. I'm definitely going to start calling at 8am sharp tomorrow and just keep at it until I reach someone. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience - it really helps to know I'm not alone in this mess!

This is so frustrating and unfortunately way too common with EDD! I went through something similar a few months ago where they scheduled my interview for a Friday afternoon and never called. Turns out their system had a glitch that day and multiple people got missed. Here's what I learned: definitely call them tomorrow morning right when they open at 8am. Keep hitting redial - it took me about an hour of constant calling but I eventually got through. The rep was actually helpful once I reached someone and rescheduled me for the following week. Also, take screenshots of your online portal showing today's scheduled interview time as proof you were supposed to have the call. When I spoke to the rep, having that documentation really helped my case. The good news is that once you do complete the interview (assuming it goes well), you'll get all your back pay including for this waiting period. I know it doesn't help with rent being due next week, but at least you won't lose out on the money completely. Don't lose hope - most people I know who had missed interviews got it sorted out within 1-2 weeks once they made contact with EDD. The system is broken but the individual reps are usually understanding when it's clearly their fault.

Thank you for the advice about taking screenshots - that's really smart! I already grabbed a screenshot of my portal showing today's scheduled interview time, so I'll definitely have that ready when I call tomorrow. It's encouraging to hear that the reps are usually understanding when it's clearly their fault. The system glitch you mentioned makes total sense - it seems like their technology is just as unreliable as everything else about EDD. I'm prepared to spend however long it takes calling tomorrow morning until I get through. Really appreciate you sharing your experience and the reassurance that people do get this resolved!
