EDD phone interview passed but claim still under review for weeks - what's happening?

I'm seriously stressing out here. Had my EDD eligibility phone interview on April 14th (almost 3 weeks ago!) and my claim is STILL showing 'under review' status. The interviewer seemed positive and said everything looked good, but nothing has changed in my UI Online account. No decision letter, no payment, nothing! I've tried calling every single day this week and can't get through to anyone. Has anyone experienced this ridiculous delay after their interview? Is this normal or should I be worried that something went wrong? I've got rent due next week and I'm freaking out.

5 WEEKS?! That's insane! Did you get backpay for all those weeks once they finally approved it?

This is unfortunately a common issue right now. After your phone interview, the EDD interviewer has to submit their recommendation, then a supervisor needs to review it, and finally, the determination is made and entered into the system. This whole process can take 3-6 weeks in many cases, even when everything goes smoothly during your interview. Here's what you can do: 1. Continue certifying for benefits every two weeks even though you're not getting paid yet 2. Check your UI Online inbox daily for any correspondence 3. If you have a particularly urgent financial situation, you can try contacting your state representative's office - they sometimes can help expedite Once approved, you should receive all back payments for the weeks you certified during this waiting period.

Thank you for the detailed info. I've been certifying, so that's good. I didn't know about the supervisor review step - the interviewer made it sound like she was making the decision right then. And contacting my rep is a great idea I hadn't thought of!

Same! It's like they WANT us to suffer. My car payment bounced because I trusted what the interviewer told me about "processing within 7-10 days." Pure BS!

I finally got through to EDD last week after trying for days using Claimyr (claimyr.com). They have this service where they basically call EDD for you and connect you once an agent is on the line. Saved me hours of redial frustration. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km if you want to see how it works. When I finally got through, the agent told me my claim was just sitting in a review queue and nobody had even looked at it since my interview. They flagged it as urgent after I explained my situation. Got my determination letter 2 days later. Sometimes you just need to get someone to actually look at your file.

That's really good to know, thanks! I'm so tired of calling 50+ times a day and never getting through. Might try this service if I don't hear something by the end of this week.

Just to clarify something important here - there's a difference between the general "review" status and a "pending eligibility interview" status. If you've had your interview and your claim is under review, that's actually a positive sign that your claim is moving forward in the process. The EDD is experiencing significant processing delays in 2025 due to their new verification system implementation. Your claim isn't stuck because of a problem; it's just in the queue for final processing. As long as you're certifying every two weeks, you'll receive all eligible benefits once approved. One thing to check: Go to your UI Online homepage and look under "Notifications" - sometimes they'll post requests for additional documentation there without sending an email alert. This could potentially be causing the delay.

This is rlly helpful info! but i think ur wrong about the notifications thing... those only show up in ur inbox not on the homepage. i just went through all this last month.

You're right about the inbox - that's where formal notifications appear. However, on some UI Online accounts, there's also a separate "Notifications" or "Alerts" section on the homepage that can show pending tasks. The EDD interface can vary slightly between different claim types and when your account was created. But checking both places is always a good idea!

3 weeks? LOL try EIGHT WEEKS after my elgibility interveiw!!! And then they denied me anyway for some BS reason about my 'unavalibility for work' even though I told the interviewer I could work ANY SHIFT ANY DAY. Total waste of time. Im currently in the appeal process and thats a whole other nightmare. The system is BROKEN.

Oh god, that's awful! Did they at least tell you why they thought you were unavailable? I definitely told my interviewer I can work any shift/day too. Now I'm worried they'll use that against me somehow.

They said because I mentioned I was taking an online class, I wasn't "fully available" for work... even though it was a WEEKEND class that took 2 hours a week! Complete bull. Just make sure you didn't mention ANYTHING that could be twisted to make it sound like you have restrictions on when you can work.

This post is giving me flashbacks lol. My eligibility interview was back in January, and I was stuck in review for almost a month afterward. What finally worked for me was sending a message through the UI Online contact system specifically asking about the status. I wrote something like "I had my eligibility interview on [date] and haven't received a determination. Can you please check if there's anything holding up my claim?" Got a response two days later and then my approval came through the following week. Also, if you can't get through on the phone, try calling right when they open at 8:00am. I mean literally be dialing at 7:59am. That's usually when you have the best chance.

I'm definitely going to try the UI Online message. I didn't think they actually responded to those! And I've been calling midday, so I'll try right at 8am tomorrow. Thanks for the tips!

One more important thing to check - log into your UI Online account and make sure your identity verification is fully completed. Sometimes after the eligibility interview, there can still be an ID.me verification holding things up. This has been a common issue with the updated 2025 system. Also, did the interviewer specifically tell you they had all the information they needed? Sometimes they say everything "looks good" but are still waiting on employer verification. If your former employer hasn't responded to EDD's request for information, that could be causing the delay.

My ID.me verification shows as complete, so I don't think that's the issue. The interviewer did say she needed to contact my former employer, but she said that shouldn't hold up the process. Now I'm wondering if my employer is being slow to respond or disputing something. This is so frustrating!

just wait it out trust me. once u start calling and bugging them they might flag ur account for extra review. just keep certifying and itll come through eventually

Update: I just checked the EDD processing timeframes on their website, and they're currently stating 4-5 weeks for post-interview determinations due to high volume. So while frustrating, your 3-week wait is still within normal parameters. I'd give it another week before pursuing escalation options. Also, contrary to what someone suggested above, contacting EDD about your status will NOT flag your account for extra review or delay it further. That's a common misconception. Polite follow-up is perfectly acceptable.

Thank you! I feel a little better knowing this is currently "normal" even though it's frustrating. I'll try sending a message through UI Online and if I don't hear back in another week, I'll try the Claimyr service that someone mentioned to actually speak with an agent.
