EDD phone interview completed 3 days ago but no update showing in UI Online - what's next?

I had my eligibility phone interview with EDD last Thursday (they called right on time, surprisingly!). The interviewer told me they were just verifying my reason for leaving my hospitality job and that I should see an update to my claim within 24-48 hours. It's now been 3 full business days and my UI Online account still shows my claim as 'pending eligibility.' No new messages, no payment status change, nothing at all. The interviewer seemed satisfied with my explanation that I was laid off due to slow season and had documentation from my employer. Has anyone else experienced a delay like this after their interview? Should I be worried or is this normal? This is my first time on unemployment and I'm getting anxious about paying rent next month.

That's reassuring to hear! Did you do anything during those 5 days or just wait it out? I'm tempted to call but I know how impossible that can be.

The 24-48 hour timeframe they give is extremely optimistic and rarely accurate. In reality, EDD is dealing with huge backlogs right now and interview determinations typically take 3-7 business days to appear in the system. Since you mentioned your interview seemed to go well and you have documentation of the layoff, you're likely fine. Just keep certifying for benefits as normal while you wait. One thing to watch for: check your physical mail and UI Online inbox daily. Sometimes they'll send a request for additional documentation without updating your claim status.

Thank you for this detailed response! I'll definitely keep an eye on my mail and inbox. I was worried I might have missed something or needed to take action. Will continue certifying as scheduled.

THE EDD IS COMPLETLY BROKEN!! I had my interview FOUR WEEKS AGO and still nothing!! I've called 73 TIMES trying to get through to someone who can tell me what's happening with my claim. Every time it's either busy signal or they hang up after saying "too many callers". This system is designed to make people give up!!

Have you tried using Claimyr? It helped me get through to EDD when I was in a similar situation last month. It basically keeps dialing for you and gets you in the callback queue. I was skeptical but watched their demo video (https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km) and decided to try it. Got a callback from EDD within 2 hours and they resolved my pending interview issue right away. The website is claimyr.com if you're interested.

my neighbor works for edd (not telling this to anyone lol) and she says that sometimes the interviewers forget to submit the paperwork right away or it gets stuck in their internal system. its not always entered immediately after the call.

This is actually really common. I've worked with dozens of unemployment cases (I'm not with EDD, just help people navigate benefits), and there's often a disconnect between when the interview happens and when the determination gets entered in their system. Also, different departments handle different parts of the process, so the interviewer might have approved you, but the payment department hasn't processed it yet.

have u tried checking ur claim status on the mobile app? sometimes it updates there first before the website for some reason. also check if ur certification date is coming up soon, sometimes they wait till after ur next certification to update everything at once

I didn't even know there was a mobile app! Thanks for the tip. My next certification is actually this Sunday, so maybe you're right that they're waiting until then to update everything. I'll download the app now.

Just wanted to add one more important piece of advice: document everything. Write down the date and time of your interview, the name of the interviewer if you have it, and what was discussed. If you do end up needing to call, having this information ready will help the representative assist you more quickly. Also, if for some reason your claim gets denied after the interview (unlikely based on what you described, but possible), you'll need these details for an appeal.

This is great advice. I did jot down the interviewer's name and key points we discussed, so I have that ready. Hoping I don't need to appeal but better to be prepared. Thanks!

Mine was pretty short too! About 10 minutes. They just confirmed the dates I worked, reason for separation, and verified my employer's information. I was expecting a much longer, more intense interview based on what I'd read online.

You're actually in good shape timing-wise. The current average processing time for EDD eligibility interviews is 5-7 business days, despite what they tell claimants about 24-48 hours. As long as your UI Online account shows no disqualification issues (which would appear as a notification), you're likely just in the normal processing queue. One thing to keep in mind is that this Thursday is when many claims get processed in batches for the following week's payment cycle, so don't be surprised if you see movement on your claim then.

That's really helpful to know about Thursday being a processing day! I had no idea there was a weekly batch schedule. I'll try to be patient until then before I panic.

has anyone ever had their interview and then got denied anyway? i'm worried this will happen to me next week

Yes, having an interview doesn't guarantee approval. The interview is just to gather facts about your claim that may be unclear or need verification. Common reasons for post-interview denials include: conflicting information from your employer, insufficient work history in your base period, or evidence that you weren't available for work. However, even if denied, you always have the right to appeal the decision within 30 days.

UPDATE: My claim just switched from pending to paid this morning! Exactly one week after my interview. No additional communication from EDD, it just updated in the system. Thanks everyone for your help and reassurance during my mini-panic. For anyone else in this situation - it seems like the 24-48 hour timeframe they mention is definitely not accurate, but patience (however difficult) pays off.
