How soon after EDD phone interview will I get a decision? Waiting 2 weeks now

I had my eligibility phone interview with EDD on March 4th (about 2 weeks ago) and still haven't heard anything about the decision. The interviewer said something about 'processing my case soon' but didn't give me a specific timeframe. My UI Online account still shows my payments as pending, and I'm getting really nervous about bills piling up. How long does it typically take to get a decision after a phone interview? Should I be calling them or just keep waiting? This is my first time on unemployment and I'm completely lost.

Most EDD determinations come within 7-10 business days after the phone interview. It's been a bit longer for you, so it might be worth checking in. When you log into UI Online, is there any message in your inbox? Sometimes they send the determination there without any notification.

Thanks for responding! I just checked my UI Online inbox again and there's nothing new in there. The last message was just confirming my interview appointment from 2 weeks ago. Should I try calling them? I'm worried my case fell through the cracks somehow.

i got my decision in like 3 days but my coworker waited almost a month so its all over the place tbh

A MONTH?? I can't wait that long! Did your coworker do anything special to finally get their decision?

nah they just had to wait it out. EDD is super random sometimes

THE SYSTEM IS BROKEN!!!!! I waited 23 days after my interview last month, called EVERY DAY, and nobody could tell me ANYTHING except "it's processing" over and over. Then suddenly my payments switched from pending to paid with NO NOTICE whatsoever. They don't respect that people have BILLS TO PAY and FAMILIES TO FEED while they take their sweet time making decisions!!!

Same thing happened to me! I thought I was going crazy checking my account every day seeing nothing change. Then one morning everything was approved.

After your phone interview, the EDD interviewer has to review your case and make a determination about your eligibility. Officially, this should take 7-10 business days, but currently it's taking 2-3 weeks for many people. A few things you can do: 1. Check your UI Online account daily, particularly your inbox and claim history 2. Look for any notices in your regular mail (sometimes they send paper notices instead of electronic) 3. Make sure your contact information is current in the system 4. After 3 full weeks, it's reasonable to call and inquire about the status The determination letters are typically titled "Notice of Determination" and will clearly state whether you're eligible or not. If you're found eligible, pending payments should switch to paid within 24-48 hours after the determination.

Thank you for the detailed explanation! This is really helpful. I'll keep checking my UI Online and my mail. Hopefully I'll get something by next week, which would make it 3 weeks total.

@Adrian Connor I’ve been waiting 11 weeks … guess it’s time I call!

While ur waiting make sure ur still doing ur bi-weekly certifications!! even if they show pending. i forgot to do mine when i was waiting for my interview decision and it caused a huge mess later.

Oh! I didn't even think about that. Thanks for the reminder - I will definitely keep certifying even while I wait.

I went through this exact situation in January. After waiting almost 3 weeks with no decision, I tried using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to connect with an EDD agent. They have this service that helps you skip the phone queue and got me connected to EDD in about 20 minutes instead of calling all day. The agent I spoke with was able to see my pending interview decision and pushed it through that same day. You can see how it works in their video: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km Not saying it will work the same for everyone, but it solved my issue when I was in your exact situation.

I've never heard of this service before. Did you have to provide a lot of personal information to use it? I'm desperate but also cautious about sharing my info.

It was pretty straightforward - they just need your phone number to connect the call. Once connected, you're talking directly to EDD like a normal call, so only EDD gets your personal info. It's just a way to bypass the busy signals and get through.

My sister works for EDD (not an agent tho) and she says theyre super backed up right now because of some system updates they did in February. Lots of determinations are taking 3-4 weeks currently. Just FYI.

OF COURSE they did system updates without hiring enough people to handle the backlog! Typical EDD - they never think about how real people are affected!!!

Quick update question - has anything changed in your UI Online account? Sometimes there are subtle status changes that aren't obvious.

I just logged in to check again and YES! My payment status changed from "pending" to "paid" sometime in the last hour! I didn't get any email or notification, but when I check my payment activity, it says the payment was issued today. I still don't see any determination letter in my inbox, but I guess this means I was approved? I'm so relieved!

Great news! Yes, payments switching from pending to paid means your eligibility issue was resolved in your favor. The formal Notice of Determination might arrive in your UI Online inbox in the next day or two, or they might mail it. But the important thing is you're approved and should receive your funds within 24-48 hours if you have direct deposit, or 3-5 days if using the Money Network card.

That's such amazing news @Savannah Glover! I'm so happy for you - I know how stressful it is waiting for that decision. Thanks for updating us too, it gives me hope for my own pending case. Definitely keep an eye out for that determination letter just so you have it for your records, but the fact that your payments switched to paid is the main thing. Congrats on getting through this!

Congratulations @Savannah Glover on getting your payments approved! Your story is really encouraging for those of us still waiting. I'm in a similar situation - had my phone interview 10 days ago and still showing pending. Based on what everyone's sharing here, it sounds like the 2-3 week timeframe is pretty normal right now, especially with the system updates that were mentioned. I'm going to keep checking daily and maybe try calling if I hit the 3-week mark. Thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences - it really helps to know we're not alone in this process!

@Caleb Stark You re'so right about not being alone in this! I was feeling like I was the only one going through this stress, but seeing everyone s'experiences here has been such a relief. The 10-day mark you re'at is still well within the normal range based on what people are sharing. I m'definitely going to keep this thread bookmarked and update if anything else changes with my case. Good luck with yours - hopefully you ll'see that status change soon too!

As someone who just went through this process last month, I can tell you that the waiting is absolutely the worst part! I had my phone interview on February 12th and didn't get my determination until March 5th - so about 3 weeks total. What helped me stay sane was setting up a daily routine of checking my UI Online account at the same time each morning (around 9am) so I wasn't obsessively refreshing all day. The determination letter showed up in my inbox on a Wednesday morning with no warning, and my payments switched to paid that same afternoon. Hang in there - the system is slow but it does eventually work!

@Hugo Kass That s'really solid advice about setting a specific time to check rather than refreshing all day! I can already feel myself getting into that obsessive checking pattern and it s'driving me crazy. Three weeks seems to be the magic number based on everyone s'experiences here. It s'reassuring to hear that even when it takes longer, people are still getting approved. Thanks for sharing your timeline - it really helps to have realistic expectations!

I just want to add that while you're waiting for your determination, it's also worth double-checking that all your documents were properly submitted during the interview process. Sometimes delays happen because they're waiting for additional verification or clarification on something that was discussed. If you took any notes during your phone interview about what documents they might need or any follow-up actions, now would be a good time to review those. Also, make sure your mailing address is current in your profile - I've heard of people missing important notices because their address wasn't updated after a recent move. The waiting is definitely nerve-wracking, but based on everyone's experiences here, it sounds like most people do get their decisions within that 2-3 week window.

@Giovanni Moretti That s'such a good point about double-checking the documents! I m'actually not sure if I submitted everything they needed during my interview. The interviewer mentioned something about wage records but I can t'remember if she said they already had them or if I needed to send something. I should probably review my notes from the call - though honestly I was so nervous I m'not sure how detailed they are. Do you think it s'worth calling to confirm they have everything they need, or would that just slow things down more?
