EDD eligibility interview wait times - applied 3 weeks ago and still no decision
I had my eligibility phone interview with EDD about 10 days ago, and I'm still waiting to hear if I'm approved for benefits. The interviewer said they needed to verify my reason for separation with my employer (I was laid off due to downsizing). My claim status just says 'pending' in UI Online and I'm getting really anxious. Is this normal? How long does it typically take after the interview to get a decision? I've been certifying every two weeks but no payments yet. My rent is due next week and I'm starting to panic.

it depends. my interview was back in february and took almost 3 weeks after to get approved. coworker got approved like 2 days after. think it matters how complicated ur case is

•That's stressful! Did they tell you anything about the delay? I thought once you had the interview it would be resolved quickly.

The typical timeline after an eligibility interview is 7-10 business days, but it can certainly take longer if your former employer disputes anything or if the EDD needs additional verification. Since you mentioned you were laid off due to downsizing, your employer should confirm this, making your case fairly straightforward. Have you checked if there are any outstanding tasks or messages in your UI Online inbox? Sometimes they need additional documentation before making a decision.

•Thanks for the info. I've checked my UI Online inbox every day and there's nothing there. No tasks or messages requesting additional info. I'm just in limbo and it's really stressful.

MY INTERVIEW WAS A TOTAL DISASTER!! The interviewer called 45 mins late and then rushed through everything. Took FIVE WEEKS after that to get any money and by then I had to borrow from family to avoid eviction. The system is broken and nobody cares. They make us wait while bills pile up. Try calling them - GOOD LUCK getting through!!!!

•Same! My interviewer was actually nice, but the waiting is ridiculous. Sorry you had to borrow money :

In my experience helping clients with EDD claims, post-interview decision timelines vary significantly. The official guideline is 7-10 business days, but with current staffing levels, 2-3 weeks is more realistic. A few things that might help speed up your case: 1. Check if your employer responded promptly to EDD's verification request 2. Make sure all your certifications are complete and accurate 3. If it stretches beyond 3 weeks, you should definitely contact EDD directly Also, if your landlord is understanding, some will work with you if you show them proof of your pending EDD claim.

•Thank you for the detailed response. I have no way of knowing if my employer responded yet. My certifications are all complete. I've tried calling EDD at least 20 times in the past week but can't get through - either get disconnected or told they're at max capacity.

I went thru this last month and finally got approved. Have you tried reaching out to your former employer's HR to see if they responded to EDD yet? That was what was holding mine up - HR was slow to confirm my layoff reason.

•That's actually a good idea. I'll email my old HR person tomorrow and see if they've responded to EDD yet. Thanks for the suggestion!

After struggling with the exact same issue last month, I found a service called Claimyr that got me through to an EDD representative when nothing else worked. It basically holds your place in line so you don't have to keep redialing. The rep I spoke with was able to see that my claim was just sitting there waiting for review and escalated it. Approved two days later. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km that shows how it works. Totally worth it for me since I was about to miss another rent payment.

•@profile7 It worked for me. Not saying it solves everything, but at least I got through to an actual person who could tell me what was happening with my claim.

Just to follow up - if you do manage to get through to EDD, be sure to ask specifically if there are any "stops" on your claim. Sometimes there's a simple verification issue that isn't visible in your online portal. Also, request that they escalate your case due to financial hardship if you're facing potential eviction or utility shutoffs. They can sometimes expedite claims in those circumstances.

•Thank you, I'll definitely mention the financial hardship. My savings are almost gone at this point.

One more thing to check - make sure your identity verification through ID.me is fully completed. Sometimes claims get held up because there's an issue with the identity verification that isn't clearly communicated. It might be worth logging into ID.me separately to confirm everything is green there.

•Just checked and my ID.me verification shows as complete. I did that before my interview and the interviewer confirmed they had it. Thanks though!

UPDATE (if anyone cares): After 3 more days of waiting (total of 13 days after interview), I finally got approved! Just checked my UI Online account and status changed from pending to paid for my previous certifications. No explanation for the delay, no notification, it just changed. So hang in there OP!
