EDD phone interview passed but benefits still pending - what's the review process?
I'm seriously stressing out here. My EDD account shows a message that says: "Your phone interview time has passed and your eligibility for benefits is under review." But my weekly certification payments still say PENDING from 3 weeks ago! I had my phone interview last Thursday (they actually called 45 minutes early and I almost missed it). The interviewer asked about my job separation and I explained everything honestly. She said she'd submit her notes for review, but didn't give me any timeline. How long does this "under review" status typically last? My rent is due in 5 days and I'm starting to panic. Has anyone else been stuck in this weird limbo after their interview? Do I need to call them or just wait it out?

This is actually pretty common after interviews. The EDD rep who interviewed you isn't the one who makes the final determination - they just collect info and submit it to a claims processor for review. After my interview, it took 8 business days for my pending payments to switch to paid. The "under review" status means they're evaluating your eligibility based on the interview. As long as you were honest and qualify for benefits, it should resolve soon, but unfortunately EDD doesn't give exact timelines for this process.

•Thanks for explaining! 8 days actually makes me feel better - I was worried this could drag on for weeks. Do you think calling would speed things up or just waste my time?

•That's a relief to hear! I can manage if it's just a couple weeks. Did they backdate all your payments?

DONT JUST WAIT!!! I was stuck in that exact same situation for over a MONTH because there was some stupid "flag" on my account that nobody bothered to tell me about! The interviewer told me everything looked good but then nothing happened!! Keep calling them every single day until someone fixes it!!! The system is BROKEN and they won't help unless you MAKE them help you!!

•Oh no, that's exactly what I'm afraid of! Did you eventually get your money? Was there anything specific you said that finally got them to fix it?

•Yeah I finally got it after talking to a SUPERVISOR who could actually see that my interview notes were sitting in some queue not being processed!! Regular reps kept saying "just wait" but that was BS!! Always ask for a tier 2 specialist or supervisor!!

•That's frustrating! The interviewer didn't mention needing any additional documents, but now I'm worried. How did you finally get through on the phone? I've been trying for days.

I was in your exact position last month. After my interview, I waited 4 days then tried calling but couldn't get through (constant busy signals or being disconnected). I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to connect with an EDD agent. Totally worth it - got through in about 20 minutes and the agent was able to see that my interview notes were complete but just sitting in the review queue. She escalated it and my payments switched from pending to paid the next day. There's a quick video demo here that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km - was super straightforward. Just having someone look at your specific case can make all the difference.

•This is really helpful, thank you! I'll check out the video. At this point, I'm willing to try anything that might help move this along faster.

The post-interview review process typically takes 5-10 business days, but can extend to 14+ days during busy periods (which EDD is experiencing now in April 2025). Here's what's happening: 1. Your interviewer documents your responses about job separation 2. This gets queued for review by a claims processor (different person) 3. The processor determines if you meet eligibility requirements 4. A determination is made and entered into the system 5. If approved, your pending payments will switch to paid (usually all at once) While waiting is often the only option, calling can sometimes expedite the process if your case has been overlooked or if there's an issue requiring additional information. Make sure to continue certifying for benefits every two weeks even while your previous weeks are pending.

•Thank you for breaking it down like this! It helps to understand the actual process. I'll keep certifying and maybe try calling early next week if nothing changes. I appreciate the detailed explanation.

My nephew had this same problem but it was because he had checked the wrong box on his application about being able to work full-time. His interview went fine but then he got stuck in pending for weeks until they sorted it out. Maybe you have something similar that's causing them to take longer to review?

•THIS is why everyone should CALL!! There's always some stupid little thing they don't tell you about that's holding everything up!!

•I double-checked my application and I'm pretty sure I filled everything out correctly. The interview seemed to go well too. But you're right, it could be something small I'm not aware of.

Quick update for you - EDD just announced they're experiencing a processing backlog due to system updates, so reviews after eligibility interviews are taking longer than usual right now. The announcement says they're prioritizing cases that are more than 10 business days past interview. So if you're approaching that mark, your review should be coming up soon in their queue.

Abigail Patel
•Oh! That's actually really helpful to know, thanks for the update. I'm at 6 business days now, so it sounds like I should expect to wait a bit longer. Where did you see this announcement?

•It was in the EDD Twitter/X account and on the UI Online homepage news section. They're apparently doing some kind of system upgrade that's slowing down claim processing this month.

UPDATE: My status just changed from pending to PAID this morning! All three weeks at once, just like some of you mentioned. The money should hit my Bank of America card tomorrow. Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions. For anyone else stuck in this situation, mine took exactly 9 business days after the interview to resolve.

•Great to hear! Just as a heads-up, EDD now uses the Money Network debit card system rather than Bank of America (which was phased out last year). Make sure you've activated your Money Network card, as that's where your payments will be deposited.

•Oh shoot, you're right! I meant Money Network, not BofA. Thanks for catching that - the card is activated and ready to go!

Congratulations on getting approved! Your timeline of 9 business days is really helpful for others going through this same stress. I'm currently waiting on my interview review (day 5) and seeing your success story gives me hope. Did you end up calling EDD at all during those 9 days, or did you just wait it out? Also, huge relief that you'll make rent - I know that financial pressure makes the waiting so much worse!

•Thanks so much! I actually didn't call at all during those 9 days - I was planning to call this week if nothing changed, but it resolved on its own. I think the system update delays that Daniel mentioned probably affected my case too. The financial stress was definitely the worst part, but now I can breathe again! Hang in there - sounds like you're right on track for getting yours resolved soon too.

I'm going through the exact same thing right now! Had my interview on Tuesday and it's been 4 business days with the "under review" status. Reading through everyone's experiences here is actually really reassuring - it sounds like 8-12 days is pretty normal. The financial stress while waiting is brutal though. I've been checking my account obsessively every few hours hoping to see that status change. Thanks for sharing your experience and congrats on finally getting approved! Stories like yours help keep the rest of us sane during this waiting period.

•I totally get that obsessive checking! I was doing the same thing multiple times a day. The waiting is honestly the hardest part, especially when you're worried about bills. From what I've seen in this thread, most people seem to get resolved between 8-12 business days, so you're still well within that normal range at day 4. Try to hang in there - I know it's easier said than done when you're stressed about money. The good news is that once it does get approved, you'll get all those pending weeks paid at once. Keep us updated on how it goes!

I went through this exact same situation about 6 months ago and the waiting was absolutely nerve-wracking! After my interview, I was stuck in "under review" for 11 business days before everything got approved. Like others mentioned, all my pending weeks got paid out at once when it finally processed. The hardest part was not knowing if something was wrong or if it was just normal processing time. One thing that helped me was setting up text alerts through UI Online so I'd get notified immediately when my payment status changed instead of constantly checking the website. Also, make sure you keep certifying for new weeks even while the old ones are pending - that was something my interviewer specifically told me to do. Hang in there, it sounds like you're well within the normal timeframe based on everyone's experiences here!

•That's such great advice about setting up text alerts! I didn't even know that was an option - definitely going to do that right now so I can stop obsessively refreshing the website every hour. 11 days sounds pretty typical from what everyone's sharing here. Did you end up calling EDD at all during those 11 days or did you just wait it out? I'm trying to decide if I should give it a few more days before attempting to get through on the phone.

I'm in a similar boat right now - had my interview 7 business days ago and still showing "under review" with 2 weeks of pending payments. Reading everyone's timelines here is actually really comforting! It seems like 8-12 days is pretty standard, so I'm trying not to panic yet. The financial stress is real though - I've been rationing groceries and crossing my fingers that this resolves before my car payment is due next week. Thanks for sharing all your experiences, especially the success stories. It helps to know this limbo period is normal and that the payments do eventually come through all at once. Going to try that text alert suggestion from Luca too!

•I feel your pain on the financial stress - that rationing groceries part really hits home! I'm day 3 into my own review period after my interview and already feeling anxious about upcoming bills. It's really reassuring to see so many people sharing similar timelines here. At 7 days you're getting close to that 8-12 day window everyone's mentioning. Fingers crossed yours processes soon! The text alerts definitely sound like a good idea to save our sanity from all the constant checking.

I'm currently on day 6 of waiting after my interview and this thread has been incredibly helpful! It's so reassuring to see that most people get resolved within 8-12 business days and that all the pending weeks get paid at once. The financial anxiety while waiting is definitely the worst part - I've been checking my account multiple times a day hoping to see that status change. Really appreciate everyone sharing their timelines and experiences here. It helps so much to know this limbo period is normal and that there's light at the end of the tunnel. Going to set up those text alerts that Luca mentioned so I can stop obsessively refreshing the website!

•I'm right there with you on day 6! The waiting is so stressful when you're worried about money. I just went through this same process and got approved after 9 days, so you're getting close to that typical resolution window. The text alerts are a game changer - saved me from constantly refreshing the site. Hang in there, it sounds like you're right on track based on everyone's experiences here. Once it processes, you'll get all those weeks at once which is such a relief!

I'm currently on day 4 after my interview and this thread is exactly what I needed to see! The uncertainty of not knowing how long this review process takes has been eating at me, especially with bills piling up. It's so helpful to see everyone's actual timelines - sounds like 8-12 business days is pretty standard. The fact that all the pending weeks get paid out at once when it finally processes is really encouraging too. I was starting to worry something was wrong with my case, but now I feel like I just need to be patient a little longer. Thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences, especially the success stories! Going to set up those text alerts right now so I can stop checking the website every hour.

•You're definitely not alone in this! I just went through the exact same thing and the waiting period is absolutely brutal when you're stressed about bills. Day 4 is still pretty early in the process - from everything I've read here, most people seem to get their approvals between days 8-12. The text alerts are seriously a lifesaver for your sanity! I was refreshing my account constantly until I set those up. Try to hang in there - I know it's easier said than done when money is tight, but it sounds like you're on the normal timeline. Keep us posted on how it goes!

I'm on day 8 after my interview and seeing everyone's timelines here is giving me so much hope! The interviewer said my case looked straightforward but didn't give any timeframe, so I've been spiraling a bit wondering if something went wrong. It's such a relief to see that 8-12 days is totally normal and that the payments come through all at once when approved. The financial stress during this waiting period is no joke - I've been meal prepping with whatever's left in my pantry and avoiding looking at my credit card balance. Really appreciate everyone being so open about their experiences and timelines. It helps knowing we're all going through the same stressful process! Definitely setting up those text alerts today so I can preserve what's left of my sanity.

•You're right at that 8 day mark where things typically start resolving! I can totally relate to the meal prep survival mode - I was doing the exact same thing during my wait. Day 8 is actually really encouraging based on all the timelines people have shared here. Most seem to get approved somewhere between days 8-12, so you're definitely in the zone where it could happen any day now. The interviewer saying your case looked straightforward is a really good sign too. I know the financial stress makes every day feel like forever, but try to hang in there - it sounds like you're so close to getting this resolved. Those text alerts will definitely help with the constant checking anxiety!

I'm on day 10 after my interview and this entire thread has been such a lifesaver for my anxiety! When I first got stuck in "under review" status, I was convinced something had gone wrong since the interviewer didn't give me any timeline expectations. Reading everyone's experiences here - especially seeing that 8-12 days is completely normal - has helped me stay (somewhat) sane during this waiting period. The financial pressure is definitely real though. I've been living off ramen and whatever was left in my freezer, constantly refreshing my account hoping to see that magical status change. Based on all the timelines shared here, I'm right in that window where it should resolve soon. Really hoping to join the success stories in the next day or two! Thank you all for being so open about your experiences - it makes this stressful process feel so much less isolating when you realize everyone goes through the same nerve-wracking wait.

•You're so close to the finish line at day 10! I totally understand that ramen and freezer survival mode - I was doing exactly the same thing during my wait. Based on all the experiences shared in this thread, you're right in that sweet spot where approvals typically happen. The fact that you're at day 10 and the interviewer didn't mention any red flags is really encouraging. I know every day feels like forever when you're stressed about money, but it sounds like you should see that status change very soon. Keep us posted - I'm rooting for you to be the next success story here! The waiting is absolutely brutal but you're almost there.

I'm on day 5 after my interview and this thread is exactly what I needed! The "under review" status has been driving me crazy, especially since my interviewer didn't give any timeline either. It's so reassuring to see that 8-12 business days seems to be the normal range and that everyone eventually gets their pending weeks paid all at once. The financial stress is definitely real - I've been checking my account obsessively and starting to panic about upcoming bills. Really appreciate everyone sharing their actual timelines and experiences here. It makes this whole process feel less scary when you realize it's completely normal and that there's a predictable pattern. •You're still early in the process at day 5, so try not to stress too much yet! I went through this exact same thing a few months ago and the obsessive checking definitely doesn't help with the anxiety. From all the experiences shared here, it really does seem like 8-12 days is the standard timeline, so you've got a few more days before you're even in that typical window. The text alerts are seriously a game changer - they'll save your sanity from constantly refreshing. I know the financial pressure makes every day feel like an eternity, but based on everyone's stories here, you're right on track for a normal processing timeline. Hang in there!

I'm currently on day 3 after my interview and finding this thread has been such a relief! The "under review" status had me spiraling thinking something went wrong, but seeing everyone's timelines here shows this is totally normal. •You're definitely in the right headspace being at day 3 - that's still really early in the process! I can totally relate to that spiral of thinking something went wrong when you first see that "under review" status. It's such a vague message and creates so much anxiety when you don't know what's normal. The fact that your interviewer said everything looked good is a really positive sign though. I went through this same exact experience and that 3-5 day mark was when my anxiety was at its peak because you're just starting to wonder what's happening. Based on all the timelines shared here, you're not even close to that 8-12 day window yet, so try to be patient with the process (easier said than done, I know!). Those text alerts are seriously worth setting up - they'll save you from that constant checking compulsion. The financial stress part is so real though, especially when bills are looming. Hang in there!
