EDD called 2 hours before scheduled interview time - now what happens to my claim?
I'm absolutely livid right now. Had a phone interview scheduled with EDD yesterday between 1-3pm regarding some 'discrepancy' they found in my claim. I rescheduled important client meetings, made sure my phone was fully charged, and had all my employment documents spread out on my kitchen table ready to go. Guess what? They called at 10:57am - more than TWO HOURS before the scheduled window! I was in the bathroom and missed the call completely. By the time I saw the unknown number on my phone, it was too late. Now I'm panicking that my benefits will be disqualified because of THEIR mistake. Has anyone else had EDD call way outside their scheduled window? What happens now? Do I need to request another interview or will they just deny my claim? I can't afford to wait weeks for this to be sorted out.

•Exactly! It's ridiculous. Did you ever get to reschedule? I'm trying to figure out what to do now.

Contact EDD immediately through your UI Online account. Send a message explaining that they called outside the scheduled window. Then call them first thing tomorrow morning to request a rescheduled interview. You have up to 48 hours after a missed interview to contact them and explain. Make sure to document everything - take screenshots of your appointment notice showing the 1-3pm window. This happens more than you'd think because interviewers sometimes get through their queue faster than expected and start making calls early.

•Thank you, I'll send a message right away. Should I try calling today or wait until tomorrow? I've been calling for the past hour but can't get through.

•Good luck getting through on the phone! I spent 3 weeks trying to reach someone after they did the same thing to me. Keep hitting redial until your finger falls off 😡

WHY is EDD so incompetent?? They pull this crap all the time. They expect us to follow every tiny rule perfectly but can't even follow their OWN SCHEDULE. I had an interview scheduled 9-11am and they called at 2:30pm when I was picking up my kid from school. Then they had the NERVE to send me a disqualification notice for "failure to participate" in the interview! The whole system is designed to make people give up.

•Did you manage to get that resolved? I'm terrified they'll disqualify me and I'll have to go through a whole appeal process.

•Yeah but it took FOREVER. Had to request an appeal hearing and wait 6 weeks just to explain that THEY called outside the scheduled time. Eventually got approved but they owed me like $7800 by then. Never got an apology either.

I recommend using Claimyr to get through to an EDD representative quickly. I was in the exact same situation last month - missed interview because they called early, couldn't get through on the phones for days. Claimyr got me connected to an EDD agent in about 25 minutes instead of spending hours redialing. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km that shows how it works. The EDD rep I spoke with was able to see notes on my account and reschedule my interview for the following week. Much better than waiting for them to potentially disqualify your claim.

•Thanks for the suggestion! I'll check out that video. At this point I just need to talk to a human at EDD before they make a decision on my claim.

•Does Claimyr actually work? I've been trying to get through to EDD for 2 weeks about a separate issue and keep getting the "we're experiencing high call volume" message.

When this happened to me, I immediately sent a message through UI Online AND left a detailed voicemail on the number they called from explaining that they called outside the scheduled interview time. An EDD rep called me back the next day and we did the interview then. Make sure to document everything and be persistent - your claim might get flagged for non-response otherwise. Also important: if you received an interview notice, it should have a phone number specifically for rescheduling missed interviews. It's different from the main EDD number. Check your notice for that number - it's usually less busy.

•Thank you! I just double-checked my notice and you're right - there is a different number for rescheduling. I completely missed that in my panic. I'll try calling that number right now.

lol they do this to everyone dont worry too much. EDD interviews r never on time. my interview window was 10-12 and they called at 3:47pm when i was picking up groceries. missed the call but they just called again the next day without me even asking them to. sometimes depends on which caseworker u get assigned

•That gives me some hope! Maybe they'll just call back. I've been stressing about this all day.

Quick update for anyone following this thread: EDD's official policy is that they may call up to 15 minutes before or after your scheduled window, but calling 2+ hours early is definitely outside their protocol. When you speak with a representative, politely explain the situation and request a "good cause" exemption for missing the interview. They should note this on your claim and reschedule. If they try to disqualify you, immediately file an appeal - you have a legitimate reason for missing the call.

•Thank you so much for this information! I managed to get through on the rescheduling number another commenter pointed out. They've scheduled a new phone interview for next Tuesday and noted that they called outside the window the first time. Such a relief!

I'm so glad you got it resolved! This is exactly why I always tell people to check their interview notice carefully - that separate rescheduling number is a lifesaver. EDD really needs to train their staff better on timing protocols because this happens way too often. At least you have documentation now that they called outside the window, which should protect you if any issues come up with your claim later. Good luck with your Tuesday interview!

•This is such valuable advice! I'm new to dealing with EDD and had no idea there were separate numbers for different issues. It's frustrating that the system seems designed to confuse people, but at least there are community members like you sharing these tips. I'll definitely save this thread in case I ever need to reference it. Thanks for helping make this process a little less overwhelming for everyone!

This exact same thing happened to my neighbor last month! EDD called her at 8:30am for a 2-4pm interview slot. She was dropping her kids off at school and missed it completely. The key is to act fast - she called the rescheduling number (which is buried in the interview notice) within 24 hours and explained the situation. They rescheduled her for the following week and noted in her file that they called outside the window. Don't panic, but definitely don't wait - the sooner you contact them, the better your chances of getting it resolved without any penalties to your claim.

•Thank you for sharing your neighbor's experience! It's reassuring to hear another success story about getting this resolved quickly. I'm really grateful for all the helpful advice in this thread - from checking the interview notice for the rescheduling number to acting within 24-48 hours. It seems like the key is being persistent and documenting everything. I already got my interview rescheduled for Tuesday thanks to everyone's tips here, but it's good to know that even when EDD messes up their timing, there are ways to fix it if you know what to do. This community has been incredibly helpful during a really stressful situation!

I'm so sorry this happened to you! The same thing happened to my sister-in-law about 6 months ago - EDD called her at 11:15am for a 3-5pm window while she was at a doctor's appointment. She was panicking just like you are now. The good news is that she got it resolved! She immediately sent a message through her UI Online account explaining what happened, then called the rescheduling number (it should be on your interview notice - different from the main EDD line). It took her about 3 tries to get through, but they rescheduled her interview and made a note that EDD called outside the scheduled time. Her benefits weren't affected at all. The key is acting quickly - don't wait more than 48 hours to contact them. Document everything and be polite but firm about explaining that they called way outside your scheduled window. You've got this!

•Thanks for sharing your sister-in-law's experience! It's really comforting to hear these success stories when you're in the middle of panicking about your benefits. I'm new to this whole process and honestly had no idea that EDD had separate phone numbers for different issues until people mentioned it in this thread. I'm definitely learning that documentation is key with these situations. I'm curious - did your sister-in-law have to deal with any delays in her payments while this was getting sorted out, or did everything continue normally once they rescheduled? I'm hoping my benefits won't be put on hold while I wait for my Tuesday interview.

I just went through this exact situation last week! EDD called me at 9:45am for a 2-4pm interview while I was in a work meeting. I was so stressed thinking they'd deny my claim, but here's what worked for me: I immediately logged into UI Online and sent a detailed message explaining they called outside the scheduled window (include the exact times). Then I called that special rescheduling number that's printed on your interview notice - it's usually much easier to get through than the main EDD line. The representative was actually understanding and said this happens more than it should. They rescheduled me for 3 days later and made a note in my file about the timing issue. My payments continued normally while waiting for the new interview. The key is acting fast - don't wait! Contact them within 24 hours if possible. Also keep screenshots of your original appointment notice showing the correct time window as proof. You'll get through this!

•This is exactly the kind of detailed advice I was hoping to find! I'm really grateful you took the time to share your recent experience with the same issue. It's such a relief to hear that your payments continued normally while waiting for the rescheduled interview - that was one of my biggest worries. I already got my situation resolved thanks to all the helpful tips in this thread, but I'm sure your step-by-step breakdown will help other people who find themselves in this frustrating situation. The UI Online message plus the rescheduling number combo seems to be the winning strategy. It's crazy how common this timing issue is with EDD - you'd think they'd have better protocols in place by now!

This thread has been incredibly helpful! I'm actually dealing with a similar situation right now - EDD called me yesterday at 11:30am for a 3-5pm interview window while I was at my son's parent-teacher conference. I saw all the missed calls but it was too late. Reading everyone's experiences here gives me so much hope that this can be resolved. I'm definitely going to follow the advice about checking my interview notice for that separate rescheduling number and sending a message through UI Online right away. It's frustrating that EDD can't stick to their own schedules, but at least there seems to be a clear path to getting it fixed if you act quickly. Thank you all for sharing your stories and solutions!

•I'm so sorry you're going through this too! It's honestly ridiculous how often EDD calls outside their scheduled windows. The good news is that based on everyone's experiences in this thread, it seems like there's a pretty clear solution if you act fast. Definitely try that rescheduling number on your interview notice first - multiple people here said it's way easier to get through than the main EDD line. And make sure to document everything with screenshots of your original appointment time. It sounds like as long as you contact them within 24-48 hours and explain what happened, they're usually understanding about rescheduling. Fingers crossed you get it sorted out quickly! This community has been such a lifesaver for figuring out how to navigate EDD's confusing system.

I've been lurking in this community for a while but had to create an account just to respond to this thread! I'm currently going through the EDD process myself and this is exactly the kind of situation I've been worried about. Reading all these responses has been so educational - I had no idea there was a separate rescheduling number on the interview notices or that you should document everything with screenshots. It's honestly shocking how common this timing issue seems to be with EDD. Thank you to everyone who shared their experiences and solutions, especially the specific steps like sending a UI Online message and acting within 24-48 hours. I'm bookmarking this thread in case I need it later. It's reassuring to know there's such a supportive community here with people willing to share detailed advice during stressful situations like this!

•Welcome to the community! I'm glad you decided to create an account and jump in. This thread really shows how valuable it is to have people share their real experiences with EDD - the system can be so confusing and intimidating when you're dealing with it alone. I've learned so much just from reading everyone's stories and solutions here. The fact that so many people have had the exact same timing issue with EDD calling outside scheduled windows is both frustrating and reassuring - at least we know there are proven ways to get it resolved! Definitely save those tips about the rescheduling number and documenting everything. Hopefully you won't need them, but it's good to be prepared. This community has been amazing for getting practical advice that you just can't find anywhere else.

Just wanted to add my experience to help others who might find this thread in the future! I had the exact same thing happen to me about 3 weeks ago - EDD called at 12:15pm for a 4-6pm interview slot while I was in a dentist appointment. I followed the advice that everyone's been sharing here: immediately sent a message through UI Online explaining the situation with exact times, then called the rescheduling number from my interview notice. It took me about 6 tries over two days to get through, but once I did, the rep was actually pretty understanding. They rescheduled me for the following week and noted that EDD had called outside the window. My benefits weren't interrupted at all during the process. The key really is acting fast and having all your documentation ready. It's such a relief to see how many people have successfully resolved this issue - gives me hope that EDD isn't completely impossible to work with when they make mistakes on their end!
