Missed EDD phone interview due to DND mode - called back immediately but no response

I totally messed up today and missed my EDD eligibility interview because my stupid phone was on Do Not Disturb mode! 🤦‍♀️ I checked my phone literally 2 minutes after they called (bad timing!) and saw the missed call from EDD. I immediately called the number back and left a voicemail explaining what happened. It's been over 24 hours now and no callback from them at all. I'm freaking out because I really need this claim to go through. Should I try calling the claims specialist line? Has anyone been in this situation before? Will they automatically disqualify me because I missed the interview? Help please!! 🙏

This happened 2 me last year! EDD is TERRIBLE at calling back. You definitely need to call them ASAP dont wait around.

Ugh, I was afraid of that. Did they end up disqualifying you when you missed the interview?

Don't panic yet! I missed my interview too (was in the bathroom, typical!) and I called them back within 10 minutes. They didn't return my call either, but I kept calling the regular EDD number for three days straight using different options until I finally got through. The rep was able to reschedule my eligibility interview for the following week. Just be prepared to spend HOURS trying to get through. I started calling right when they opened at 8am and finally got through around 10:30.

Thank you for sharing this! That gives me some hope. Did your claim stay pending until they rescheduled the interview? I'm so worried about bills piling up while I wait.

Yes, my claim stayed pending until after the rescheduled interview. Once I completed that, it took about 3 days for the status to change from pending to paid. Hang in there - it's a stressful process but you can get it sorted out!

This is just so typical of EDD. They expect YOU to be available exactly when they call but then when you try to reach them it's impossible. The whole system is designed to make people give up on their benefits. I missed my interview last month because they called from a DIFFERENT number than what was listed on my UI Online notice!! Can you believe that?? Then they disqualified me and I had to go through the whole appeal process. What a joke.

While it's frustrating, the EDD representatives are handling thousands of claims daily. If you miss your eligibility interview, the best approach is to contact them immediately through the UI Online portal using the Contact EDD feature, AND call the main line. Document everything - date, time, who you spoke with if you get through. This creates a paper trail showing you made good faith efforts to resolve the situation.

Same thing happened to me in January! I was cooking and missed the call lol. I tried calling back for 2 days with no luck - always got the "we're experiencing high call volume" message and then it hung up on me. I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got through to a rep in about 45 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. The rep was able to see I tried calling back and rescheduled my interview for the following week. Everything worked out fine after that!

does that really work?? never heard of it before

Thank you for the suggestion! I'm going to check this out right now - I've already called 12 times today and can't get through. I'll try anything at this point.

Missing an eligibility interview doesn't automatically result in disqualification, but you need to contact EDD as soon as possible. Here's what you should do: 1. Continue calling the regular EDD number (not just leaving voicemails) 2. Send a message through UI Online explaining what happened 3. Document all your attempts to contact them If more than 48 hours have passed since your missed interview, your claim may be temporarily disqualified until you can speak with a representative and reschedule. The important thing is to be persistent and keep trying to reach them. Most representatives understand that technical issues happen, but you need to demonstrate that you're making every effort to resolve the situation.

Thank you for the clear advice! I've been calling repeatedly but keep getting the message that they're experiencing high call volume. I'll keep trying and will also send a message through UI Online right away. If I do get temporarily disqualified, will my benefits be backdated once the issue is resolved?

Yes, typically once you complete the rescheduled eligibility interview and if you're found eligible, your benefits should be backdated to cover the weeks you were eligible but temporarily disqualified due to the missed interview. Make sure to continue certifying for benefits during this time, even if you're in pending status.

i missed my interview too last month cuz i was at a doctors appointment i completely forgot about the EDD call. i just kept certifying like normal and after like 10 days my status changed from pending to paid without me even talking to anyone? maybe im just lucky but sometimes i think these interviews arent as important as they make them seem

That's not typical. Eligibility interviews are scheduled for specific reasons - usually there's a question about your claim that needs clarification. Some claims may resolve automatically through the system if other verification methods are used, but most people who miss interviews need to reschedule. I wouldn't recommend simply waiting as that could delay benefits for weeks or even result in disqualification.

My cousin works for EDD (not in CA tho in Nevada) and she says they're supposed to make THREE attempts to call you before they disqualify you for a missed interview. Is it possible they'll try calling you again? Or does California EDD only do one attempt?

0 coins

California EDD generally makes only one attempt for scheduled eligibility interviews. If you miss it, the responsibility is on the claimant to contact EDD to reschedule. Nevada's unemployment system operates differently in this regard. That's why it's crucial to be available at the scheduled time and to contact EDD immediately if you miss the call.

UPDATE: I finally got through to EDD this morning! Used the Claimyr service that someone suggested here and it worked - got connected to a rep in about an hour. They were actually really understanding about the missed interview and rescheduled me for next Tuesday. The rep said my claim will stay pending until after the interview but assuming everything checks out, I'll receive all the back payments I'm eligible for. Such a relief! Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions!

So glad to hear you got through and got it resolved! This gives me hope for others who might be in similar situations. It's frustrating how the system works but at least there are solutions. Thanks for updating us - it's really helpful to know that EDD reps can be understanding when you explain what happened. Hope your rescheduled interview goes smoothly on Tuesday! 🤞
