EDD said funds approved after phone interview but nothing in account after 48+ hours - what next?
So incredibly frustrated right now! Had my eligibility phone interview Monday morning at 8am, and the EDD rep actually told me there was a mistake because my claim was already approved weeks ago during a previous call. He said he would 'delete' this unnecessary interview from my record and that I'd see funds via direct deposit within 24 hours. It's now Wednesday afternoon and my bank account is still empty. No pending transactions, nothing. I'm seriously stressing because rent is due next week plus I have car insurance and utilities all hitting at once. What's my next move here? Do I need to call EDD back? Is there a specific department or number to reach someone who can actually help with payment issues after an interview? Has anyone dealt with this type of delay after being verbally approved?

Don't panic yet! This happens ALL the time with EDD. Their "24 hours" is more like 2-5 business days in reality. The interview removal needs to be processed, then the payment has to be authorized, then it gets sent to your bank, then your bank needs to process it. Monday interview + 3-4 business days = you should see it Friday most likely. If nothing by Monday, then you should definitely call.

•Thanks for the reality check! I just assumed when he said 24 hours, it would actually be 24 hours. Really wish they wouldn't make promises they can't keep when people are depending on this money. Will try to hang tight until Friday.

•A WEEK?! Ugh, that's not what I wanted to hear, but I appreciate the heads up. Did he have to keep calling or did it just magically appear one day?

You need to call them ASAP! I had something similar happen and waited a week thinking it would process, but turns out there was a hold on my account they didn't tell me about. Their systems don't always update properly after verbal approvals. Don't listen to people saying wait - the squeaky wheel gets the grease with EDD!!

•While this can sometimes be true, calling too early just ties up their phone lines when the payment might be in normal processing. It's better to wait the standard processing time first unless you see a disqualification notice in your UI Online account.

•Sure, wait around while your bills pile up and your claim sits there! EDD NEVER does anything in a "standard" time. Their systems are ancient and broken and the only way to get anything done is to call until someone fixes it manually. I've been through this nightmare 3 times!

Check your UI Online account - does it show the interview was actually removed? Sometimes what they say on the phone doesn't match what happens in the system. Look under Notifications or History to see the current status.

•Good point! Just checked and it still shows the interview as "scheduled" even though it already happened and he said he'd remove it. That's concerning. Guess I really do need to call them back.

If you need to reach EDD by phone, I'd recommend trying Claimyr. I was in a similar situation where I needed to speak with someone ASAP about a delayed payment after an interview. After trying for days on my own and getting the "too many callers" message, I used Claimyr and got through to a rep in about 20 minutes. They have a service that calls EDD for you and then connects you when they get through. Saved me so much frustration. Their site is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km

•Never heard of this before but I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point. Thanks for the suggestion. Did they actually resolve your payment issue when you got through?

•Yes! The EDD rep I spoke to was able to see that my payment was stuck in processing and manually released it. Money was in my account the next day. Just make sure when you get through that you ask to speak with a claims specialist, not just a general rep.

Have you tried checking your payment status in UI Online? Go to Claim History and see if it shows "Paid" or "Pending". If it's still showing as pending after the interviewer said it was approved, there might be another issue like identity verification or quarterly review holding things up. Also make sure your direct deposit info is correct in the system!

•It shows "pending" still. And yes, I triple-checked my direct deposit info when I set it up. The interviewer specifically said it was already approved weeks ago and this second interview was a mistake, so I'm really confused about why it would still be pending. Is there a way to see what's causing the hold up?

•If it still shows pending, then the interview wasn't actually removed from the system like they promised. When a payment is released, the status changes from "pending" to "paid" within hours. You definitely need to call back and speak with a Tier 2 specialist who can manually release the payment. They have the authority to override the system when mistakes like this happen.

Quick update question - have you received any notification emails from EDD since the interview? Sometimes they send automated messages when the payment status changes or if there are additional steps needed. Check your spam folder too.

•Nothing! Not a single email or message in my UI Online inbox. It's like the interview never happened. I'm definitely calling first thing tomorrow morning. Will update what happens for anyone who might have the same issue in the future.

UPDATE: Finally got through to EDD this morning after an hour on hold. Turns out the interviewer DID mark my claim as approved but forgot to actually release the payment! The rep I spoke with today apologized and manually processed it. She said funds should be in my account within 48 hours. Thanks everyone for your advice and support through this stressful situation.

•typical edd!! glad you got it fixed!!

•Thanks for updating! This is actually a common issue - the approval and payment release are two separate steps in their system, and sometimes reps forget to do both. Good lesson for others to follow up if payments don't arrive as promised.

•SEE?? I told you calling was the right move! Never wait with EDD issues! Their systems are completely broken and things fall through the cracks ALL THE TIME!

•So glad you got this resolved! I'm dealing with a similar situation right now - had my interview last Friday and still waiting for payment. Your update gives me hope that calling back is the right move. Did you have to wait on hold for a long time or did you use one of those callback services people mentioned?

•@Olivia Harris I actually just called the regular EDD number and got lucky with timing - called right at 8am when they opened and only waited about an hour. But honestly, after reading about that Claimyr service Sofia mentioned, I might try that next time since an hour on hold is still pretty brutal when you re'stressed about money!

This is exactly why I always screenshot or write down the exact words EDD reps tell me during calls! So many times they'll say something is "taken care of" but then nothing happens in the system. It's like they have good intentions but their internal processes are completely disconnected. Really glad you persisted and got it sorted out - your story will definitely help others who find themselves in the same frustrating situation.

•That's such a smart strategy! I'm definitely going to start doing that from now on. It's crazy how disconnected their phone reps seem to be from their actual computer systems. Makes me wonder how many people just give up and don't get the money they're entitled to because they assume EDD knows what they're doing. Thanks for sharing that tip!
