EDD interviewer promised to release pending payments after overpayment discussion - still waiting after 3 days

So stressed right now! I had my eligibility interview last Tuesday (4/2/25) and things got weird when the interviewer brought up an old claim from 2022. Apparently I have a $2,850 overpayment on that claim, but she specifically told me "this won't affect your current claim at all." She said she would immediately process my pending payments for the new claim (within 24-48 hours) and that I'd hear separately from the overpayment department about setting up a repayment plan for the old issue. Well, it's been THREE DAYS and my payments are still showing as pending! I've left two voicemails for the interviewer but she hasn't called back. I'm completely out of money - filed this new claim on 3/15/25 so it's been almost a month with zero income. When I called the main EDD line, they just said "the interviewer has 10 days to determine eligibility" which wasn't helpful since she TOLD ME she was approving it during our call! Anyone dealt with this before? Can they hold my new claim hostage because of an old overpayment even though she said they were separate issues? Getting desperate here...

So did your payments eventually just show up? Should I keep calling or just wait it out? I literally have $23 left in my account...

Based on what you described, there are a few things to understand here: 1. Technically, the interviewer is correct that they have up to 10 calendar days from your interview date to make a determination. While she may have indicated she was approving your claim during the call, the actual processing takes additional time. 2. Regarding the overpayment: if she said it won't affect your current claim, it likely means they're handling it as a non-fraud overpayment from your previous claim. However, in some cases, they may still place a hold until the overpayment department processes their part. 3. What you should do: Continue trying to reach your interviewer, but also try calling the main EDD line again and specifically ask to speak with a tier 2 specialist who can see more details about your claim status. Explain that the interviewer confirmed approval but payments are still pending. If you filed on 3/15 and had your interview on 4/2, you should see movement by 4/12 at the absolute latest.

Thank you so much for the detailed explanation. I'll try calling again tomorrow morning and specifically ask for a tier 2 specialist. I didn't know that was an option! The waiting is the worst part when bills are due.

Just wondering... did you certify for those weeks? Sometimes people forget that even after an interview you still have to certify for each week. I know it sounds basic but I've seen people wait weeks only to realize they never certified lol

Yes, I definitely certified! That's why they're showing as "pending" in my payment history instead of just not showing up at all. Good thought though!

Listen, everyone here is giving you the standard answers, but after going through HELL with EDD for months, I'll tell you what actually works. The regular phone lines are USELESS. They just read scripts and can't actually help. I was in the exact same situation - pending for weeks after interview, promise of payment, NOTHING. I finally used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that gets you through to an actual EDD specialist instead of the first-level reps. They have a system that basically calls EDD for you and then connects you when they get through. I was skeptical but desperate, watched their demo video (https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km) and decided to try it. Got connected to a tier 2 specialist who cleared my pending payments on the spot. Sometimes you need to talk to someone who can actually push buttons, not just read scripts. Seriously, you don't need to wait 10 days when someone ALREADY told you it was approved.

is this legit?? sounds kinda fishy tbh. has anyone else used this??

I used that Claimyr thing too. It works but just know that even when you get through sometimes the EDD person still can't help. Like in my case they said I needed to wait for a specific department to review my claim. But at least I found that out instead of calling 50+ times and never getting through!

Just to provide some additional clarity on your situation: When an interviewer says they're approving your claim and processing your payments, there is still an internal review process that happens. This is especially true when there's an overpayment situation, even if they tell you it won't affect your current claim. Here's what's likely happening: The interviewer submitted your approval, but since there's an overpayment flag on your account, the system may be routing your case through an additional verification step. This is actually quite common. You have three options: 1. Continue waiting until the 10-day determination period ends (which would be around 4/12) 2. Call the main EDD line but specifically request a transfer to the overpayment department (this can sometimes expedite things since they can see both issues) 3. Use one of the contact acceleration services others have mentioned if you're in a dire financial situation One last tip: When you call, mention specifically that you're experiencing financial hardship and are at risk of missing essential payments (rent, utilities). EDD does have protocols for expediting cases where severe hardship is involved.

Thank you for this detailed explanation. I didn't realize there could be an automatic system flag because of the overpayment, even though she said they were separate issues. I'll try your suggestion about mentioning financial hardship - that's definitely true at this point. Rent is already late and I'm getting worried about utilities next.

Quick update question: Have you checked your UI Online inbox? Sometimes they send a request for additional information there and don't call you. If there's any unread message or action item in your portal, that could be what's holding things up.

Just double-checked and there's nothing new in my inbox. The last message is just the interview appointment confirmation from last week. Nothing about additional documents or information needed.

SUCCESS UPDATE: I kept trying the advice here and FINALLY got through to a tier 2 specialist this morning. They could see that my interviewer had indeed approved my claim, but it was stuck in the system waiting for some kind of secondary verification because of the overpayment flag. The specialist manually pushed my payments through, and they've already switched from "pending" to "paid" in the system! The money should hit my account tomorrow. She also confirmed that I'll be getting a separate notice about the overpayment situation, but it won't affect my ongoing claim as long as I set up a payment plan. For anyone in a similar situation - persistence is key. Don't just wait if you're in a financial bind. Keep calling until you reach someone who can actually help. And definitely ask for a tier 2 specialist if the first person you talk to can't resolve the issue. Thanks everyone for your help!

Great news! Glad you got it resolved. This is exactly why it's so important to reach the right level of representative at EDD. The tier 1 reps often can only see basic information, while tier 2 specialists can actually fix issues in the system.

Wait, I didn't post that "SUCCESS UPDATE" message. That wasn't me! I'm still dealing with this issue... my payments are still pending. I think someone else replied pretending to be me?? Anyway, I'm going to keep trying to reach a specialist. This is getting ridiculous.

Sorry about that confusion! The forums sometimes have glitches with usernames. Keep pushing to get through to a tier 2 specialist. They're the only ones who can actually see all the details of your claim and make changes in the system. The regular reps are basically just reading information off a screen.

ACTUAL UPDATE: Finally got some movement! I took everyone's advice and kept calling until I reached a tier 2 specialist. Turns out my interviewer HAD approved my claim, but because of the overpayment on my record, it got automatically flagged for additional review. The specialist was able to see this and manually pushed my payments through after verifying a few details. My status changed from pending to paid about an hour ago! Such a relief. They said the money should be on my Money Network card by tomorrow morning. Regarding the overpayment, they confirmed I'll be getting a separate notice about setting up a repayment plan, but it won't hold up any future payments as long as I respond to that notice. Thanks everyone for the guidance. Would have been lost without your help!

Congrats on getting this resolved! Your experience really highlights how important it is to keep pushing for the right level of support at EDD. I'm dealing with a similar situation right now - had my interview last week and was told everything looked good, but my payments are still stuck in pending status. Did you have any specific strategy for getting through to a tier 2 specialist? Every time I call the main line they just tell me to wait the full 10 days, but like you said, when you're broke and bills are due, waiting isn't really an option. Also curious - how long did it take once the specialist manually pushed your payments through for them to actually show as "paid" in the system? Thanks for sharing your success story, gives me hope that persistence will pay off!
