Suddenly showing 'disqualification' for all weeks after being approved - anyone fix this?

I'm absolutely freaking out right now! I submitted my UI claim back on February 23rd and got the approval notice on March 12th. I've been faithfully certifying every two weeks as required, but haven't received a single payment yet. I figured they were just backlogged or something was delayed, but when I logged in this morning, every single week that had been showing as 'pending' now shows 'disqualification'! No explanation, no email, nothing! I've called the EDD at least 30 times over the past two weeks but either get disconnected or told the call volume is too high. I finally contacted my state assembly representative yesterday who said they'd open a case on my behalf and I should hear something within 24 hours. I'm honestly terrified - I've got about $6,200 in back payments I was counting on and rent is due in a week. Has anyone else suddenly had all their weeks flipped to 'disqualification' after initially being approved? Did you eventually get it resolved with backpay? I'm desperate for some hope here.

This exact thing happened to me last month! My claim was initially approved but then suddenly showed disqualification for 6 weeks of certifications. Turns out they flagged my identity verification as incomplete even though I'd done everything through ID.me correctly. Your assembly rep was the right move - mine contacted them and got it fixed within 3 days. They reinstated all my weeks and I got the full backpay amount. Make sure you keep certifying though, even with the disqualification status showing.

Oh thank god someone else went through this! Did they explain why it suddenly changed to disqualification? I'm so worried I did something wrong on my certifications, but I triple-checked everything each time.

disqualificatiom doesnt always mean permanant. sometimes its a temporery flag on ur acct while they review something. happened to my brothers gf and it was bcuz her former employer contested the claim. took like 3 wks to fix but she got all the $$$ eventually

My employer shouldn't be contesting anything - I was laid off and they even told me to apply for unemployment. But maybe they're reviewing something else? Just wish they'd tell me what's going on!

EDD LOVES doing this crap!! They approved my claim in January then MONTHS later decided to disqualify EVERYTHING with NO WARNING. $8,400 gone that I was counting on! When I finally got through to someone, they said I answered a certification question wrong (I said I was "available for work" but apparently checking yes on that when you have a part-time job is WRONG). The system is DESIGNED to trip people up and then blame us!!! I had to go through appeal hell to get it fixed.

While frustrating, it's important to clarify that answering "yes" to being available for work while having part-time employment is actually correct. The issue might have been with reporting your part-time earnings correctly or some other certification question. For the OP's situation, a sudden switch to disqualification across all weeks typically indicates either an eligibility issue has been identified or there's a problem with identity verification that needs resolution.

This has been happening to lots of people since they updated their system in January. I went through something very similar but instead of disqualification, mine said "non-payment" for weeks. Try checking if you have any notifications in your UI Online inbox - sometimes they send messages about why your claim was flagged but don't email you about it. Also, when the assembly office contacts EDD on your behalf, they usually get a much more detailed explanation than what shows in your account. Make sure to follow up with your assembly rep if you don't hear back exactly when promised. For reference, it took about 9 days total from when my assembly person stepped in until everything was fixed. My backpay (around $5,800) arrived 3 days after they resolved the issue.

I checked my inbox and there's nothing new there at all - just the original claim approval from March. It's so frustrating that they can just flip everything to disqualified without even telling you why! I'll definitely follow up with the assembly office if I don't hear back tomorrow.

wait I'm confused... you got approved in jan but havent gotten ANY payments yet? and you just now contacted someone? i would have been freaking out way sooner lol

I applied in February and got approved in March (not January), but yeah I probably should have been more proactive. I was calling regularly but could never get through, and the pending status made me think it was just processing. Didn't realize how bad the situation was until it changed to disqualification!

If you need to reach an actual EDD representative quickly, try Claimyr (claimyr.com). I was in a similar situation last month where all my payments suddenly showed disqualified and I couldn't get through on the regular line. Claimyr got me connected to a rep in about 20 minutes, and they explained that there was an identity verification flag on my account that needed to be cleared. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km The rep was able to remove the disqualification right while I was on the phone, and my payments started processing that same day. Worth checking out if your assembly person route doesn't work out quickly.

Yeah, it definitely works. I was skeptical too, but after spending days trying to get through myself, I was desperate. They basically monitor the EDD phone lines and call you when they can get through.

When a claim suddenly changes from pending to disqualification across all weeks, it's typically due to one of these common issues: 1. Identity verification problems - Your ID.me verification may have failed or expired 2. Employer contest - Your former employer disputed your eligibility 3. Eligibility interview results - If you had a scheduled interview that you missed or had unfavorable results 4. Incomplete quarterly review - EDD performs quarterly eligibility reviews 5. Work search requirement failures - Not properly documenting work search activities The good news is that contacting your assembly representative is one of the most effective approaches. They have special channels to EDD that can expedite resolution. While waiting for their response, do the following: 1. Continue certifying for all weeks as normal 2. Check your UI Online inbox daily for any correspondence 3. Make sure your contact information is up to date in the system 4. Document all your work search activities thoroughly Once resolved, backpay is typically processed within 3-5 business days for all qualified weeks. Keep in mind that even after resolution, the first payment may take longer (up to 10 days) while subsequent payments arrive faster.

Thank you SO much for this detailed explanation. I'm pretty sure my ID.me verification went through correctly, and I've been documenting my work search activities carefully. I didn't miss any interviews because I was never notified about one. I'll keep certifying and hope the assembly rep can help get to the bottom of this. Really appreciate your help!

Just wanted to add - make sure you're checking your physical mail too, not just your UI Online inbox! EDD sometimes sends disqualification notices through regular mail that explain exactly what the issue is. My neighbor almost missed her appeal deadline because the notice went to her mailbox and not her online account.
