Won my EDD appeal hearing but no payment showing - when will money arrive?

Finally got the determination letter yesterday saying I won my appeal for my disqualification (employer tried claiming I was fired for misconduct when I was actually laid off due to budget cuts). The letter says the decision is 'final' and my benefits are approved, but when I log into UI Online, nothing has changed! My account still shows $0 balance and all my certifications from the last 7 weeks still say 'disqualified'. I've tried calling EDD about 35 times today but just get the 'we're experiencing higher than normal call volume' message. Has anyone else gone through this after winning an appeal? How long before they actually update your account and release the payments? I'm down to my last $120 and rent is due next week. Any insights appreciated!

Congrats on winning your appeal! The EDD system is notorious for taking time to update after appeals. In my experience, it took about 10-14 days for my UI Online account to reflect the changes after I won my appeal. The payments came shortly after that. What I recommend doing is taking a photo of your determination letter and uploading it to your UI Online account under 'Contact EDD'. Label it 'Appeal Decision Implementation Request' so it gets to the right department. This sometimes speeds things up.

Thank you!! I'll definitely try uploading the letter right now. Do you remember if your certifications status changed before the payment, or did everything update at once? I'm nervous because I've already been waiting 3 days since getting the letter.

Thanks for the encouragement! Did you have to do anything special or just wait? I'm trying to figure out if I need to be proactive or just patient.

The EXACT same thing happened to me!! Won my appeal in Feb and literally NOTHING changed online for nearly 3 weeks!!! I was pulling my hair out calling them daily. Finally got through after 2.5 weeks and they said "oh we see the appeal decision but it hasn't been processed yet" SERIOUSLY?? They had to manually trigger some update on their end. Then magically 2 days later all 11 weeks of my back payments appeared on my Money Network card. The whole system is BROKEN!!

Omg 3 weeks?? I can't wait that long! Did they tell you why it took so long or what caused the delay? I'm wondering if I should just keep trying to call.

After winning an appeal, there are actually two separate processes that need to happen: 1) The Appeals decision needs to be processed by the Appeals Division, and 2) The Adjustments Unit needs to implement the changes to your claim. Unfortunately, these don't always happen automatically or quickly. What you need to do is contact the Adjustments Unit specifically. They're the ones who actually update your claim status and release the funds after an appeal decision. The regular EDD reps you reach through the main line often can't help with this specific issue, which is why you need to get through to someone who can transfer you to Adjustments. Have your appeal case number ready when you call.

Thank you so much for this detailed explanation! I had no idea there were two separate processes. This makes sense why things are taking so long. Do you know if there's a direct number for the Adjustments Unit or do I need to go through the main line first?

I tried at 8:01 this morning but still got the same recorded message about call volume. I'll try again tomorrow right at 8:00 sharp. Thanks for the tip!

I've had success using Claimyr to get through to EDD when dealing with appeal payment delays. After trying for days to reach someone, I used their service and got connected to an EDD rep in about 20 minutes. They were able to manually update my claim status and release my payments after I explained I had won my appeal. Worth checking out their video demo at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km or their website claimyr.com if you keep hitting the call volume message. Especially since you mentioned you're down to your last bit of money - getting those backpayments ASAP is critical.

I'll check this out! Anything to avoid calling 100 times a day for the next three weeks. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for sharing that data point. Seems like the timeframe varies a lot based on everyone's responses. Hoping mine comes sooner rather than later!

Just to follow up on my earlier comment about uploading your appeal decision letter - make sure you also write a clear note explaining that you're awaiting implementation of the appeal decision. Include your appeal case number if you have it. The more specific you are, the better chance of it getting to the right department. Also, if you certified for weeks during the appeal process, double-check that those weeks show 'disqualified' and not 'pending'. If they're 'pending', that's actually a good sign that the system is starting to process changes.

Thank you for the follow-up! I just checked and all my weeks say 'disqualified' still, not 'pending'. I'll definitely include my case number when I upload the letter. Is there any specific department name I should mention in my note to make sure it gets routed correctly?

UPDATE: I just spoke with an EDD representative about this exact issue for another client. The current processing time for implementing appeal decisions is approximately 10-12 business days from when the Appeals Division transmits the decision to the EDD system. However, that transmission itself can take 3-5 business days after you receive your letter. So counting from when you received your determination letter, you're looking at potentially 13-17 business days total before seeing changes in your UI Online account. This timeline can vary based on claim complexity and current workload. If it exceeds 15 business days, that's when you should escalate.

Thank you so much for this update! This is exactly the information I needed. I'll mark my calendar for the 15 business day mark and try to be patient until then. Really appreciate you sharing this current timeline info!

Has anyone else noticed that EDD ALWAYS finds a way to make us wait for money even when we're LEGALLY entitled to it?? Like, we win an appeal which PROVES they were wrong, and instead of rushing to fix their mistake, they make us wait ANOTHER month?! It's almost like they're hoping we'll just give up!!

seriously!! its like they purposely make everything as difficult as possible

I'm definitely feeling that frustration right now. I've already waited months for the appeal hearing and decision, and now more waiting for them to actually implement what they already decided. It feels like unnecessary bureaucracy.

UPDATE: I finally got through to EDD this morning! The rep confirmed they received my appeal decision but said it's in a processing queue. She put in a request to expedite it due to my financial hardship, but couldn't give me an exact timeframe. She did say I should see some movement on my account within 7-10 days though. Just wanted to update everyone in case someone else runs into this same situation. Will post again once I actually see the money! Thanks everyone for your help so far!

Great news that you got through! The expedite request should help speed things up. Make sure to check your account daily - sometimes they update overnight without any notification. Looking forward to hearing when you get your payments!
