Won my EDD appeal but still stuck in 'pending' - how long until payment?
After 3 months of fighting, I finally won my appeal hearing last Thursday! The judge ruled in my favor on the job separation issue. I was so relieved, but now I'm confused because my UI Online account still shows all my weeks as 'pending' even though it's been 5 days since the decision. The judge said I was eligible for the $8,740 in backpay for those 14 weeks I was disqualified, but nothing has changed in the system. Has anyone gone through this after winning an appeal? How long does it usually take for EDD to update your payment status? Do I need to call them to make something happen? I'm starting to worry they're ignoring the judge's decision somehow. My landlord has been patient but I really need this resolved ASAP!

Congratulations on winning your appeal! The system doesn't update automatically after an appeal decision. EDD has to manually process the judge's ruling and implement it in their system. In my experience, this typically takes 10-14 business days after the decision date, though some people have seen it happen faster (5-7 days) or slower (3+ weeks). The claims department needs to: 1. Receive the official decision from the appeals board 2. Review all the weeks that were disqualified 3. Remove the disqualifications 4. Process the payments If you don't see any update by the 2 week mark, I would recommend calling them. Make sure to have your appeal case number handy when you call.

•Thank you so much for explaining the process! I didn't realize there were so many steps after the hearing. I'll try to be patient for another week then. Do you know if they'll send any kind of notification when it's processed, or will I just need to keep checking my UI Online account?

•3 weeks?! That's frustrating. Did you have to keep calling them or did it just happen automatically without you doing anything?

In my case, after winning my appeal last year, I waited 12 days and nothing changed in the system. When I finally got through to EDD on the phone, they told me they hadn't received the judge's decision yet! The rep manually escalated it, and the funds were released 3 days later. So while some people say wait, I'd recommend being proactive - try calling after a week if you see no movement. If you're struggling to get through on the phones (which is basically everyone), check out Claimyr (claimyr.com). They have a service that gets you through to an EDD rep without the endless redial game. Saved me hours of frustration when I needed to follow up on my appeal results. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km

•wait is claimyr legit? seems sketchy that u have to pay to talk to edd when its a government service we already pay for with taxes 🤔

•It's definitely legit - it's just a call connection service, not affiliated with EDD. I was skeptical too, but after spending 3 days trying to get through on my own (and getting the dreaded "too many callers" message every time), I tried it and got through in about 20 minutes. Whether it's worth it depends on how urgently you need to resolve your issue.

THE SYSTEM IS DELIBERATELY SLOW TO PAY YOU EVEN AFTER YOU WIN!!! This is how they save money by making the process so frustrating that people give up. I won my appeal in DECEMBER and had to call SEVENTEEN TIMES before someone finally fixed it in February!!! They claimed they "never received the paperwork" from the judge even though I had the decision letter in my hand!!! DON'T WAIT for them to do the right thing. Call EVERY DAY until they fix it. The squeaky wheel gets the grease in this broken system.

•This is a bit over the top. The system is definitely slow but it's not some conspiracy. It's just bureaucracy and understaffing. I've worked in government agencies before (not EDD) and these delays happen because there are too many cases and not enough people processing them.

•Call it whatever you want but the RESULT is the same! They save money when people give up fighting the system. I know THREE PEOPLE who won appeals and never got paid because they couldn't keep fighting through the red tape!!

This is actually a really common issue after appeals. I handle unemployment cases and can tell you that EDD is supposed to implement appeal decisions within 15 calendar days, but they're often backlogged. Here's what you should do: 1. Wait until at least 10 business days have passed 2. If no change, call the EDD Appeals Division (not the regular number) at 1-800-300-5616, then press 1-2-1 when prompted 3. Explain you won your appeal but don't see payment processing 4. Have your appeal case number, date of hearing, and judge's name ready Sometimes there's a disconnect between the Appeals Board and the payment processing team. Calling the Appeals Division first can expedite things because they can send an internal notification to the claims department.

•Thank you for those specific instructions! I didn't know about the Appeals Division having a separate contact process. I'll definitely follow these steps if I don't see movement by next week. Really appreciate the expert advice.

hey just wondering did u get a case number when u won ur appeal? i lost mine and now im panicking!!

•Yes, it's on the official decision letter they mail you. It's different from your regular EDD Customer Account Number. If you lost your letter, you might be able to get the info from your UI Online account under the Appeals section, or you'll need to call the Appeals office directly.

mine took exactly 8 days after i won but my roommate's took almost a month. i think it depends on who gets assigned to process ur case and how busy they are. summer is probably busier with all the school workers filing claims

so when i won my hearing last year i had the EXACT same worry! but then like magic on day 9 everything switched from pending to paid! then it took 2 more days for the money to hit my card. dont stress yet but definitely call if its been more than 2 weeks

•That gives me hope! I'm on day 6 now so maybe I'll see something happen in the next few days. Did you get all your backpay at once or did it come in chunks?

•it all came at once! all 8 weeks that were disqualified switched to paid on the same day and the payment hit my card as one big deposit. it was such a relief after months of stress!

One thing to keep in mind - if your appeal covered multiple weeks, sometimes EDD processes them in batches. So you might see some weeks change to paid before others. Also, check if you need to retroactively certify for any of those weeks. Even after winning an appeal, you still need to have certifications on file for each week you're claiming.

Just to update everyone on this thread - I checked with a colleague who works with EDD appeals, and they confirmed that the current processing time for implementing appeal decisions is averaging 12-15 business days as of May 2025. There was a system upgrade in April that temporarily slowed things down, but they're catching up now.

I went through this exact situation back in February! Won my appeal on a Tuesday and was checking my account obsessively every day. Finally called on day 10 when nothing had changed, and the rep told me that appeals decisions have to go through a special review queue before they can reverse the disqualifications. She said it's basically a quality control step to make sure they implement the judge's ruling correctly. In my case, everything flipped to "Paid" on day 12, and I got the direct deposit 2 days later. The waiting is absolutely nerve-wracking, especially when you need the money urgently, but it sounds like you're still well within the normal timeframe. Definitely keep that appeal case number handy though - you'll need it if you have to call them!

•This is really helpful to know about the quality control step! I had no idea there was a special review queue for appeals decisions. That actually makes me feel better knowing there's a specific process they follow rather than just hoping someone gets around to it. Day 12 seems to be a common timeframe from what everyone is sharing. I'll definitely keep my appeal case number ready - thanks for the tip!

Just wanted to add my experience to help ease your anxiety - I won my appeal in March and it took exactly 11 business days for everything to update. What helped me stay sane during the wait was setting up text alerts in my UI Online account so I'd get notified the moment anything changed instead of constantly logging in to check. One thing that might give you peace of mind: the appeal decision is legally binding, so EDD has to pay you - it's not optional for them. The delay is purely administrative. I know it's frustrating when you're dealing with bills and rent, but the money is coming! Also, when it does process, you should see your entire claim balance increase to reflect all that backpay, not just the individual weeks changing status. That was actually the first sign for me that something was happening in the system.

•Thank you so much for mentioning the text alerts! I had no idea that was an option in UI Online. Just went and set those up so I can stop obsessively checking my account every few hours. It's also really reassuring to hear that the appeal decision is legally binding - I was starting to worry they could just ignore it somehow. I'll look out for that claim balance increase you mentioned as an early sign things are moving. Really appreciate everyone sharing their timelines, it's helping me stay patient during this stressful wait!

I'm going through something similar right now! Won my appeal 8 days ago and still showing pending. This thread is so helpful - I was starting to panic that something went wrong. It's reassuring to see that 10-15 business days seems to be the normal range. One question for those who've been through this: did you get any kind of confirmation email or notification from EDD that they received the judge's decision? I haven't heard anything since the hearing, which is making me nervous. Should I expect some kind of acknowledgment from them, or do they just silently process it in the background? Also wondering if anyone knows whether the backpay comes with interest or any kind of penalty payment for the delay they caused with the incorrect disqualification? Seems like we should get something extra for all the stress and financial hardship while fighting their mistake.

•I didn't get any confirmation from EDD that they received the judge's decision - they just process it silently in the background. The only notification I got was when my weeks finally switched to "Paid" status (if you set up those text alerts someone mentioned earlier). As for interest or penalty payments, unfortunately no - you just get the regular benefit amount you were entitled to originally. EDD doesn't pay interest on delayed payments even when the delay was their fault. I know it's frustrating given all the stress and bills that pile up while waiting, but the backpay amount will be exactly what you calculated based on your weekly benefit amount times the number of weeks you were wrongfully disqualified. Hang in there - 8 days means you're getting close to that typical 10-15 day window everyone's been mentioning!

Hey Beatrice! I'm actually dealing with this exact situation right now - won my appeal 6 days ago and everything is still showing as pending. Reading through all these responses is really helpful and reassuring! Based on what everyone's sharing, it sounds like we're both still well within the normal timeframe. I love that someone mentioned the text alerts in UI Online - just set those up myself so I can stop refreshing the page every hour lol. One thing I noticed from reading everyone's experiences is that the timing seems pretty consistent across different months/seasons, so hopefully we'll both see movement in the next week or so. The fact that multiple people mentioned the 10-15 day range and that it's a legally binding decision definitely helps with the anxiety. Thanks for starting this thread - it's exactly what I needed to read today! Keep us posted on when yours updates, I'm rooting for you! 🤞

•Hey Keisha! Thanks for the support - it's so nice to know someone else is going through the exact same timing as me! I was definitely refreshing my UI Online account way too often before reading all these responses. The text alerts are a game changer for sure. It's really reassuring to see how consistent everyone's experiences have been with that 10-15 day window. I'm on day 6 now, so fingers crossed we both see some movement next week! I'll definitely update this thread when my status changes - and please do the same when yours updates. It would be great to add our data points to help future people going through this stressful wait. The legal binding aspect really does help with the worry. At least we know the money IS coming, it's just a matter of when the bureaucracy catches up! Hang in there! 💪
