EDD claim stuck for 2+ months - zero activity despite supervisor promise to 'recompute'
I submitted my UI claim back in early January and the system seems to have completely forgotten about me. My online dashboard shows absolutely nothing - $0 paid, $0 balance, no weeks available to certify. It's like my claim doesn't even exist! I finally got through to someone after dozens of calls about 2 weeks ago, and the rep said he would 'make two weeks available for certification' but that 'supervisors needed to recompute' something first. Well, nothing has changed online, and I've sent multiple emails and made more phone calls with zero response. This is getting ridiculous! I've got bills stacking up and zero income for over 2 months now. How long are other people waiting these days? Is EDD always this dysfunctional or am I just especially unlucky?

Unfortunately, what you're experiencing isn't that unusual right now. The "recompute" issue typically happens when there's something in your work history or wages that's triggering a manual review. In my experience as someone who had to deal with this last year, when they say supervisors need to recompute, you're looking at a minimum of 3-4 weeks of waiting. Here's what I recommend: 1. Keep certifying for weeks if/when they become available, even if you're not getting paid 2. Request a formal "Status of Claim" inquiry through UI Online (under Contact EDD) 3. Contact your state assembly member's office - they can often expedite these stuck claims 4. Document every call you make with date, time, and rep name Also check your UI Online inbox for any notices requiring additional information. Sometimes they need something from you but the notification gets buried.

•Thanks for the detailed advice. I checked my UI Online inbox and there's literally nothing there. That's the frustrating thing - no requests for information, no notifications, nothing telling me what's wrong. I can't even certify because there are no weeks available to certify! I'll try the Status of Claim inquiry and reaching out to my assembly member. I just don't understand how a government agency can just ignore people like this...

Two months??? Lol thats nothing my friend. I waited FIVE MONTHS with the exact same status you have. Zero movement. Zero explanation. Id call and they just say "it's processing" or "wait for a specialist to review" every single time. Eventually I got a massive backpay but no explanation why it took so long. The system is completely broken.

•It literally just showed up one day. I logged in and suddenly had like 20 weeks to certify all at once. No explanation, no notification, nothing. EDD works in mysterious ways lol

This "recomputation" situation usually indicates one of several specific issues: 1. Wage discrepancy between what you reported and what employers reported 2. Multiple employer issues (especially if you worked for more than one in your base period) 3. Identity verification flags that weren't properly cleared 4. Prior claim overlap complications The most efficient way to resolve this is to request a formal eligibility interview. They don't always offer these automatically, but you can specifically request one. Also, make sure you have documentation of all your employment for the past 18 months ready, including final paystubs and separation notices. The key issue here is that your claim is stuck in processing, not denied - which is actually better in the long run, but frustrating while waiting.

•Thanks for breaking this down. I did work for two different employers last year, so maybe that's the issue. How do I specifically request an eligibility interview? When I call, I can never get through to anyone useful. Is there a special number or option to select?

•You need to speak with a Tier 2 specialist to request the eligibility interview. When you call the main number (1-800-300-5616), the regular reps often can't schedule these interviews. Make sure to specifically ask for a "claim specialist" or "tier 2 representative" who can schedule an eligibility interview regarding your recomputation issue. Unfortunately, reaching these specialists is where most people get stuck in the phone loop system.

I was in your exact situation last month!! Stuck with no weeks to certify and the whole "supervisor needs to recompute" excuse. I wasted WEEKS trying to get through on the phone with no luck. Then I found this service called Claimyr that got me connected to an EDD rep in under 20 minutes. They basically call EDD for you and when they get through, they connect the call to your phone. Cost me a bit but was 100% worth it to finally talk to someone who could help. The tier 2 specialist fixed my claim on the spot once I actually got to speak with them. You can check out how it works at claimyr.com - they have a demo video at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km that shows the process. Seriously saved me weeks of frustration.

•I might have to try this. I've called literally 30+ times in the past week and either get the "we're experiencing high call volume" message or get disconnected after waiting on hold. At this point I'll try anything to get my claim moving.

have u checked ur spam folder for edd emails? they sent me like 5 important notices and they ALL went to spam lol. also make sure ur answering ur phone cuz sometimes they call from random numbers and if u miss it they just mark u as "unavailable" and delay ur claim even more

•Good point - I just checked my spam folder and actually found an email from a week ago! It doesn't explain much though, just says my "claim is being processed" and to check UI Online for updates (which shows nothing). I've been answering every call, even spam-looking ones, but haven't received anything from EDD.

THE ENTIRE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO MAKE YOU GIVE UP!!!! I had the EXACT same issue and waited 11 weeks - YES, ELEVEN WEEKS - before getting a single penny. They have these "recompute" excuses but it's all bureaucratic nonsense to delay payments. Every time I called, I got a different story about why my claim was held up. The ONLY thing that finally worked was filing a formal complaint with the state labor board AND contacting my state assembly member. Magically, within 3 days of doing both, my claim was "fixed" and I got all my backpay. Don't let them wear you down - that's their strategy!

•11 weeks is absolutely insane. I'm going to contact my assembly member tomorrow. Do you just call their office directly? Did you have to provide specific information about your claim?

•Yes, call your assembly member's district office (not their Sacramento office). They'll have you fill out a form authorizing them to inquire about your claim on your behalf. You'll need to provide your EDD Customer Account Number, the date you filed, and details about what's happening. They usually assign a caseworker who deals specifically with EDD issues. In my case, they emailed me within 48 hours saying they'd contacted EDD management about my claim.

sometimes the recompute thing means theres a quarterly wage update happening. the quarters changed in January so maybe your wages from q4 2024 are still being processed? just a thought. happened to me once.

•That's interesting and might explain the timing. I did work through December, so maybe that's affecting things. Still doesn't excuse the complete lack of communication from EDD though.

Quick update to my earlier comment - I just remembered that in situations where supervisors need to "recompute" and no weeks are available to certify, there's often a flag on the claim that requires manual removal. This specifically happens when there's a mismatch between your reported work history and what's in their system. When you do get through to someone (either via phone or through a service like the one mentioned above), make sure to use these exact words: "I need a Tier 2 specialist to remove the stop payment alert and release weeks for certification." The front-line representatives sometimes don't know the proper terminology to resolve your specific issue, so being precise about what you need can make a big difference.

•Thank you! This is super helpful. I'm going to write down this exact phrasing and use it when I call tomorrow. At least now I have some specific terminology that might actually get results instead of vague promises.

•They've been cutting staff while claims are increasing. Classic government logic - reduce resources when demand goes up! I read somewhere they laid off a bunch of the temporary workers they hired during the pandemic, but claim volumes are rising again with all the tech layoffs and economic issues. So now we all suffer with worse service than ever.
