EDD shows 'more info needed' after interview but 3 weeks of certifications stuck in pending - help!

I completed my eligibility interview with EDD about a month ago after getting laid off from my restaurant management position. Everything seemed fine - I certified for my first two weeks which showed as 'waiting period' (no payment as expected). But now I've certified for 3 more weeks and they're ALL showing as 'pending' with no payments issued. When I log into UI Online, my claim status shows 'more info needed' but there's no indication of WHAT info they need! No messages, no alerts, nothing in my inbox. I've called at least 30 times but can't get through to a real person. Has anyone else had their certifications stuck in pending with a 'more info needed' status? How did you resolve it? Getting really worried about bills piling up.

yep had the EXACT same thing happen to me. mine said 'more info needed' for like 4 weeks and no payments. turns out they needed wage verification b/c my employer reported different earnings than what i put on my application. but they never told me!!

Did you find out by eventually reaching someone on the phone? I've been trying every day with no luck.

This is a common issue that happens when there's a discrepancy or flag on your claim that requires EDD staff review. The "more info needed" status typically means one of a few things: 1. Wage verification issues (like what the other commenter mentioned) 2. Identity verification that wasn't completed or processed 3. Availability for work questions from your certifications triggered a review 4. Your former employer contested your eligibility reason You need to speak with an EDD representative to find out exactly what's needed. Check your UI Online account for any correspondence under "Messages" and also check your mail for any physical notices from EDD.

Thank you for explaining. I've checked both my UI Online messages and physical mail daily - nothing from them at all. That's what makes this so frustrating!

Have u tried calling right at 8:01am? that worked for me once, tho I had to try for 3 days in a row

I've tried 8:00am, 8:01am, 8:02am... even random times throughout the day. Always get the message about too many callers and to try again later. It's maddening!

I had something similar happen last month. My certifications were pending for almost 4 weeks with "more info needed" status. Turned out my former employer contested my layoff and claimed I quit! EDD never notified me about this through UI Online - I only found out when I finally got through to a rep. The system is absolutely broken... they expect you to provide information they never actually ask for!

That's exactly what I'm worried about! My layoff was part of a larger reduction, but what if my employer reported something different? How did you finally get through to a rep?

I've been dealing with EDD for years (unfortunately lol) and the "more info needed" status almost ALWAYS requires speaking to a tier 2 specialist to resolve. Regular reps usually can't help with this specific issue. The problem is getting through their phone system which is completely overwhelmed. I recently discovered a service called Claimyr that helped me get through to EDD when I was in a similar situation. Their system calls EDD for you and calls you back when they reach an agent. Saved me days of frustration. The video on their site shows how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km Check out claimyr.com if you're desperate. Way better than spending hours redialing.

Thank you! At this point I'm desperate enough to try anything. Just checked out their video and it looks legit. I'll give it a shot tomorrow morning.

@anxiousClaimer It absolutely works - I was skeptical too until I tried it. They don't fix your claim or anything, they just solve the impossible phone problem by getting you connected to an actual EDD agent who can help.

Hi there, I work as an employment counselor and see this situation frequently. The "more info needed" status with pending certifications is most commonly due to one of these issues: 1. Income verification discrepancy 2. Availability for work questions (if you answered something that triggered a review) 3. Former employer provided conflicting separation information Unfortunately, EDD's notification system often fails to properly alert claimants. Your best course of action: 1. Continue certifying on time, even while pending 2. Check your UI Online inbox daily 3. Call the main EDD number (1-800-300-5616) precisely at 8:00 AM 4. Try the alternate numbers (1-833-978-2511 or 1-866-333-4606) Once you reach a representative, request to speak with a Tier 2 specialist as they have the authority to review and resolve these specific claim issues. Regular representatives often cannot see or address the underlying problem.

Thank you so much for this detailed explanation! I'll keep trying those numbers at 8:00 AM sharp. If I'm able to get through, I'll specifically ask for a Tier 2 specialist.

UPDATE: I finally got through to EDD! Used that Claimyr service someone recommended and was connected to a rep in about 30 minutes. Turns out my former employer contested my layoff claiming I was fired for misconduct (completely untrue). The EDD rep said they tried sending me a questionnaire about this but it never went through to my UI Online account due to a system glitch. The rep helped me complete the questionnaire over the phone and said my pending weeks should be processed within 48 hours once they verify my side of the story. Such a relief to at least know what was happening! Will update again when/if I get paid.

That's great news! This is unfortunately a common issue - employers sometimes contest claims to avoid their unemployment insurance rates increasing. Make sure you have any documentation that supports your layoff (termination letter, emails, etc.) in case they request it. Glad you finally got some answers!

So typical of EDD to have a "system glitch" that prevents you from knowing what info they need, then punishing YOU for not providing it! Glad you got through and hope your payments come through soon.

FINAL UPDATE: All my pending payments were released yesterday! The EDD specialist I spoke with must have expedited my case. Received all 3 weeks of back payments via direct deposit. Such a relief. For anyone else facing this issue - don't wait around hoping it resolves itself. Getting through to an actual human at EDD is absolutely necessary with the "more info needed" status.
