EDD payment stuck on pending for 6 days - normal certification delay or problem?

I certified for my UI benefits last Sunday morning (Feb 9) and it's now Friday (Feb 14) and my payment status is still showing 'pending' in UI Online. This is my 3rd certification period and the previous two went to 'paid' status within 48 hours. I've double-checked all my answers and don't think I made any mistakes during certification. My work search activities are all documented correctly. I'm getting really nervous because I've got rent coming up and was counting on this payment. My account doesn't show any alerts or messages requiring action. Is this delay normal? How long should I wait before trying to contact EDD? Has anyone else experienced longer delays in February 2025?

same thing hppening to me rn. certified sunday and still pending. never took this long before. edd is the worst

How many days has yours been pending? Are you going to try calling them? I'm worried something might be wrong with my claim.

There are a few reasons your certification might be stuck in pending status: 1. EDD may be verifying some information on your claim (especially if you reported any earnings) 2. There could be a quarterly review happening on your claim 3. The system might be experiencing delays (which happens sometimes) 4. There might be an eligibility issue that hasn't generated a notice yet In my experience, if it goes beyond 72 hours without changing from pending to paid, it's worth contacting EDD. The system should process most clean certifications within 2-3 days.

Thanks for the explanation. I didn't report any earnings this period, but maybe it's the quarterly review thing? How exactly do I contact them? Every time I've called the main number in the past it just says they're receiving too many calls.

I went through EXACTLY this last month!!! Mine was pending for 8 days and I was FREAKING OUT because my car payment was due. Turns out they were doing some kind of random eligibility review on my claim. I had to call like 50 times before getting through, but once I talked to someone they fixed it right away and payment went through that night. DON'T WAIT - call them first thing Monday morning!!!

That's scary! Did they tell you why they were reviewing your claim? I'm worried now that there might be some issue with mine.

They just said sometimes they do random reviews to verify continued eligibility. The rep said there wasn't any specific issue with my claim, just part of their process. But seriously, call them ASAP because they won't fix it automatically sometimes!

The EDD system is totally broken. It's designed to make you give up so they dont have to pay you what you deserve. My last claim took THREE WEEKS to go from pending to paid, no explanation ever given. I spent hours on the phone trying to get through. The whole system is designed to frustrate claimants so we just give up!!!

this is why i always tell people to save some of their ui payments for when edd inevitably messes up. they always do this randomly to people

I had this problem back in January. After trying to call for 2 days with no luck, I found a service called Claimyr that got me through to an EDD representative in about 20 minutes. It costs money but was worth it for me since I was about to miss a payment. They basically keep dialing for you until they get through the busy signals. I watched their demo video (https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km) and then used their site at claimyr.com. The rep I spoke with fixed my pending payment on the spot.

I've never heard of that service before. Did the EDD rep tell you why your payment was pending for so long? Was it some kind of flag on your account?

Yes, turned out there was a flag on my account because I had moved and updated my address recently. The system automatically held my payment for review because of the address change, but the rep removed the hold once she verified my information. Sometimes these holds require manual intervention but they don't tell you that.

Try checking ur certification answers again. I once answered YES to "did you refuse any work" by accident (hit wrong button) and my payment was pending for 10 days until i called and they fixed it. Sometimes even tiny mistakes can trigger a manual review.

I double-checked all my answers in the certification history and I'm sure I answered everything correctly. No to refusing work, yes to being available, yes to looking for work, etc. That's why I'm confused about why it's still pending.

One more thing to check - log into UI Online and go to your claim summary. Look at the "Benefit Year" dates. If you're nearing the end of your benefit year, that could trigger an automatic review. Also, February is the beginning of a new quarter, which sometimes causes delays as the system verifies quarterly wage information. At this point, I do recommend calling EDD on Monday morning. Try calling right when they open at 8:00 AM for the best chance of getting through. Have your ID number ready, and be prepared to verify your identity.

I just checked and I'm only 3 months into my benefit year, so that's not it. The quarterly review timing makes sense though - hadn't thought of that. I'll try calling Monday morning. Thanks for the suggestions!

have u had an eligibility interview yet? sometimes they schedule those and dont tell u and the payment stays pending until after the interview

No, I haven't had any eligibility interview. Wouldn't they notify me if they scheduled one? I've been checking my UI Online inbox daily and there's nothing there about an interview.

they supposed to notify u but sometimes the notice gets lost or they forget to send it. happened to my roommate last year

That's encouraging to hear! I just checked mine again and it's still showing pending. Maybe they're processing them in batches and mine will change soon too. I'll give it until Monday and then try calling if it's still pending.
